The head can spawn in any of the chests around the two troll camps.

Keep lockpicking until you get it as said above. Try do it together with the quests from the nearby camp for max efficiency

Description is correct, took me 1 hour to get it though, and about 50 levels of lockpicking later ( including green level ups) i got it

so, be prepared it can be a very spontaneous Quest, might take anytime :D

You will get the head after 5x lockpicking skill. This questline is a 'fun' way to get it to a reasonable level. If at the previous quest your leveled lockpicking to 35, then you will be able to complte both other quest at that area ( Attack on Zeb'tela + shadowspine weaponry ) aprox at the same time as this quest.

Around 68, 55 in Zeb'Nowa is a good area to do this. There are two houses next to each other that spawn chests and another spawns in between them. The respawn rate is fairly quick and it's much easier to run between these than to kill your way through the entire camp.

This quest (The Sad Truth) is the only one in the series (A Discreet Inquiry -> Greed -> The Sad Truth) that can be obtained by a non-bloodelf rogue.

I don't think it's based on your skill or how many points you get before it drops, I started at 26 and got it on 30.

As of patch 2.3, only bother to loot the chests that sparkle. This patch added a sparkle which looks exactly like the loot sparkle to items that are related to the quests you're currently on.
I spent 30 minutes looting chests and then I came to a sparkling one and BAM, there's the head.

Ofcourse, If you'd like the lockpicking skills, it's your choice... :P

As has already been confirmed, only a 'sparkling' chest will yield the shrunken head. I found one at 64.0 72.6 on the top floor of the building.

got mine on my first chest. as stated above, this quest is solely for the purpose of gaining lockpicking skill, but a much easier place to do this is on the ship in the barrens. it has a roomful of chests that spawn very fast.

As of patch 2.3, the correct lock box will now "sparkle" (like a dead mob with your loot on it), as per other quest object. You no longer need to open boxes randomly, hoping to find it.

It would APPEAR (key word "appear") that there is a consistency in the location of the sparkling chest.
A previous post stated at coords 65:66.... mine was 64:67 (using Cartographer)

It's just a hunch but maybe worth testing?

I found it at 64,73 in the two-floor building(the chest is called "Sacred Burial Chest" and it sparkles) in the middle floor (between the stairs)

I get it after I opened sixth lockbox...it isn't very hard only takes 10 mins for me I hope you will get it too so fast like me

I actually got it at a lockpicking skill of 40. I think there's a set skill you have to get through, then it's a random number after that.

easy. turn right on the path and you come to a small corner wall, go round and its in the corner. The box with the head in also glitter

I have a level 16 rogue that has this quest right now but im wondering which reward to take my weapons are the blade of cunning and stung and my chest is the leather chest rep reward from tranquilen if you could help me i'd appreciate it

It seems that the head drops when your Lock Picking skill hits 75, it happened for me. Good Luck.

The loot is not random! Look for a chest with the glittering effect, this chest will contain a head. All other chest will contain junk and coins.

The sparkle trick really works. I looped around both camps for an hour, frustrated, just looting chests. Then I came here to check what the heck was going on with the drop rate, and decided to just look for a box with sparkles and loot only that. Would you believe it could be that simple! So try it! It works!

Got it on my third box at a 24 skill, good luck finding it quickly like I did.

Eralan in Tranquillien wants you to retrieve the Archeologist's Shrunken Head from one of the chests in Zeb'Tela or Zeb'Nowa.

Remember how I told you about the fat merchant who was looking for that ring? As it turns out, he had his archeologist son looking for the thing and it didn't turn out so well. By not so well I mean they killed him and shrunk his head.

Now this might seem cold, calculating, and exceptionally callous, but he'd pay a lot to get his son's head back. Sounds like the perfect job for you!

Go east until you find the troll ruins of Zeb'Tela and Zeb'Nowa. You're bound to find it one of the chests there.
