Jotungeirr and Gavel Weapon Swapping Still Possible Due to Interesting New Workaround

Over the past couple days, Blizzard attempted to fix "weapon swapping" in raid and dungeon combat for the Jotungeirr and Gavel weapons. However, some members of the WoW community have found a new and very interesting workaround!
What is "Weapon Swapping"?
In raid and Mythic+ combat, weapon swapping was added during Shadowlands when players wanted to equip shields mid-combat to activate other abilities. However, Blizzard has tried to block certain weapons from being swapped in combat due to having bonus effects, such as Corruption effects in BFA.
In Shadowlands, two weapons have very powerful on-use cooldown effects but no secondary stats:
Jotungeirr, Chamado do Destino
and
Martelete da Primeira Juíza
. So it makes sense to fully use your final cooldown effect (active buffs will be removed when you swap), then you swap to a weapon with secondary stats since the proc is useless at that point. These weapons are
blocked
from being swapped normally.
However, these could be "weapon swapped". Previously, it wasn't hard to do as you could use it in a macro, and was a small bit of optimization that could be done for those who wanted it.
Martelete da Primeira Juíza
's proc in particular is so powerful that Guardian Druids and Feral Druids are using the weapon despite it having Strength and 0 Agility, so weapon swapping is a slightly bigger deal for them.
However, these weapons were restricted from being swapped through normal means so players worked around it by:
Equip any offhand. Many people used a fish like
Bagre de 11 Quilos
. This will force
Martelete da Primeira Juíza
or
Jotungeirr, Chamado do Destino
into your bags, which is otherwise impossible.
Equip the main weapon you're trying to equip which has no restrictions.
Many players used a macro such as the following. Remember those numbers... as they will be important later.
/equipslot 17 <fish>
/equipslot 16 <main weapon>
Weapon Swapping "Fixed"
At some point over the last couple days, players started to notice that Weapon swapping was no longer possible through the normal method with
Jotungeirr, Chamado do Destino
or
Martelete da Primeira Juíza
when in a Mythic+ or Raid.
This meant that if you use one of these special weapons, you would simply just use it until the end of the raid encounter or Mythic+ dungeon.
New Workaround
Last night, Gangam1 (Twitch), Kate (Discord), Guiltyas (Discord), Meyra (Discord) and started to investigate and found some interesting results.
The discovery was that weapon swapping still works if your
off-hand is located in bag slot 16 or 17
in a bag, counting from top-left to bottom-right.
Gangam1 first discovered out that you would be able to still weapon swap sometimes, but not exactly how.
Kate speculated that it could be only a specific bag slot that it works in.
Guiltyas tested this and discovered that weapon swapping still works if the off-hand is located in specific bag slots.
Thanks to all the above for the investigation and finding a very interesting result!
Why those numbers specifically? We don't exactly know, but the weapon gear slots are coded as 16 and 17 as seen in the macro above. Weird coincidence? Bug?
Conclusion
So in conclusion, Blizzard tried to fix weapon swapping, but through some investigative work, the community has found a hilarious workaround to continue to weapon swap
Martelete da Primeira Juíza
and
Jotungeirr, Chamado do Destino
.
Make sure your fish offhand in bag slots 16 or 17 and you're able to do what you were doing before for a slight optimization.
However, it's clear that Blizzard is trying to break this interaction, so this hilarious workaround will probably be fixed soon as well.
