First Impressions of the Dragonflight Season 1 Tier Set Bonuses
Our Rogue Writers, Whispyr (Assassination), JustGuy (Outlaw), and Fuu1 (Subtlety), have dissected the newly datamined tier set bonuses to give a deeper first look as to how these bonuses will likely affect their specs in Dragonflight Season 1.
Assassination Rogue Tier Set First Impression
2-Set
-
Ladino, Assassinato, Conjunto de Classe, 2 pç
-
Envenenar
also increases your weapon poisons' damage by 10%.
4-Set
-
Ladino, Assassinato, Conjunto de Classe, 4 pç
- When your weapon poisons deal direct damage, you have a 50% chance to gain
Feridas Sépticas
, increasing all Bleed damage done by 2% for 8 sec, stacking up to 5 times.
I actually really enjoy these bonuses but there are some concerns I have hiding under the surface regarding the overall design of the spec and how the tier bonuses fit into that design. I'd look at each bonus individually and then evaluate their framing in a bigger context.
The two set bonus
Ladino, Assassinato, Conjunto de Classe, 2 pç
is a clear nod to
Surto de Toxinas
, an old effect from the Legion artifact weapon. I love this effect, and I've been asking for it to return for a while now. Playing around
Envenenar
uptime is one of the core fundamentals of Assassination, and has been for an incredibly long time. With this bonus, we lean into that uptime, and playing around pooling resources, not wasting uptime by clipping the buff, and being generally aware of the timer is a core skillset that I was looking forward to in Dragonflight with the increased focus on poisons. I love that. Since Legion, we have moved towards gameplay defined by borrowed power rather than having the core of the spec speak for itself. This bonus is much stronger in single target, where we can focus on
Envenenar
more.
The four set bonus
Ladino, Assassinato, Conjunto de Classe, 4 pç
is a little more curious. On a first read, this is very complicated, but after breaking it down and working through what it actually entails, this bonus is also quite bland. To note, "poisons deal direct damage" means instant, non-damage over time poison damage. This would count as any application of
Veneno Instantâneo
, reapplications of
Veneno Mortal
, and any application of the new
Veneno Amplificador
which similarly to
Veneno Instantâneo
has no damage over time effect. With how often we're applying poisons, this buff stacks up in a couple seconds. It should be noted that this bonus is also much much stronger in Mythic+ and aoe content where you can make use of large bleed damage through effects like
Chacina Indiscriminada
,
Garrote Aprimorado
, and
Tempestade Carmesim
. The focus on bleed damage for Mythic+ is okay, but I wish it had more single target impact as a 4 piece. Given the design of the tier sets for this patch however, it's perfectly reasonable and I'm happy with the effect, even if it's overly wordy for what it does.
While the tier set bonuses are great passive additions, they point to an underlying design of the spec that showing some signs of internal struggle. I think the two set specifically highlights the identity crisis
Envenenar
has between being a filler spam finisher when all bleeds are already up, and the associated buff being something to play around. While the energy generation has
already been nerfed in a hotfix
, the underlying intention of
Envenenar
still needs to be looked at I think. For the record, the energy nerfs were completely justified and much needed. There is a lot to be said about the speed of Assassination and what that means not only for gameplay but also for how the spec does damage. The two piece is in a good spot to push towards the buff side of
Envenenar
, rather than the instant damage. All of this is also on the heels of the tier set announcement where blizzard said they "want these Class Sets to have minimal impact on your talent choices." I don't think they've hit that mark here.
Ladino, Assassinato, Conjunto de Classe, 2 pç
is strictly twice as powerful with
Lâminas Dracotemperadas
, increasing the damage of two poisons rather than one. Going down the path to get
Lâminas Dracotemperadas
also enables higher
Envenenar
uptime, both through more energy and the possibility of taking
Torcer a Faca
. It remains to be seen just how impactful this combination will be or how necessary
Torcer a Faca
is, but the ingredients are all there to force us into a capstone that directly benefits from the tier bonus, which seems contrary to what the original intent was. I am however very excited for Dragonflight and the possibilities to come.

Outlaw Rogue Dragonflight Tier Set Bonus First Impressions
With Dragonflight launch creeping ever imminent we are finally getting confirmation and a showcase of what the first tier has to offer us in with tier set bonuses. This expansion includes a shakeup to the games core talent system which is going to be difficult for all of us to navigate and figure out optimal builds so the first implementation of tier set bonuses in relatively simple in comparison to even what we had in Sepulcher.
Overall this tier set is quite simple, primary generators increase the damage of your primary finisher, and your main proc increases your primary finisher damage. The key to making this set powerful is going to make sure that you aren't wasting any of the bonuses. You want to make sure before every
Liquidar
you get a
Golpe Sinistro
or
Emboscar
cast in. Throughout the new talent trees there is lots of internal synergy that you can potentially build around as well. For example, considering that the 2 set bonus increases damage per combo point spent, going both
Estratagema Profundo
and
Estratagema Maligno
to stack up to 7 combo points is a way to make this set stronger. Other examples include going for
Mestre de Armas
to make the 4 set land more consistently, or using
Mãos Velozes
to store up procs of
Oportunidade
to make sure to never miss a cycle and boost your
Liquidar
each time it's cast.
Overall Power Level
Overall this tier set while simple, it quite effective and optimizing our talent tree in such a way to to take full advantage of it. Due to the fact that Outlaw's multi target rotation is just doing what we already do on single target but making sure to maintain
Rajada de Lâminas
uptime, this tier set is going to just be generically strong no matter what content you chose to engage in whether that be PvP, Mythic+, or Raiding.
Feedback
The two main components of what makes tier sets so engaging to theorycraft around are when they highlight previously ignored options and makes them viable, and ways that the tier sets alter your rotation. If I'm being honest, a lot of the talents that give the tier set an added boost were already strong talents we were likely going to pick anyway just due to their generic strength, but there are still quite a few strong talents that are worth dropping just to make this tier set stronger. In addition trying to squeeze in
Oportunidade
between each
Liquidar
is going to be a fun gameplay loop that really drives home the gunslinger fantasy that the spec continues to carve itself out to be.

First Impression of the Subtlety Rogue Dragonflight Season 1 Tier Set Bonus
In Dragonflight season one we will have tier sets . The Rogue tier set is
Caixa de Ferramentas do Explorador da Câmara
and offers the above effects when using two or four pieces of tier set armor.
Explanation
The two piece bonus
Ladino, Subterfúgio, Conjunto de Classe, 2 pç
applies a 14 second buff to the player with a stack count depending on Combo Points used. The buff conveniently takes the higher stack count when refreshed. This means an accidental one Combo Point
Eviscerar
after a six Combo Point
Eviscerar
would still keep the buff on six stacks.
There are some talents that work well with the set bonus. The class tree has the
Letalidade
node that makes critical strikes damage of your Combo Point builders more noticeable,
Selar o Destino
generates more Combo Point procs and
Estratagema Profundo
increases your Combo Point cap which allows for a higher amount of stacks from the tier set bonus.
The Specialization tree has even more potential.
Estratagema Secreto
can be used in combination with
Estratagema Profundo
to increase the stack count further to a max of 7 stacks. The talent node
Lâmina Lúgubre
could lead to a fairly high damage output outside of shadow dance when combined with a combination of nodes like
Veias Perfuradas
,
Sombra Duradoura
,
Preparado Sombrio
,
O Apodrecido
,
Lâminas Sombrias
,
Toque Velado
and
Adagas Cravadas
. The new talent node
Dança Macabra
could also further increase the damage of builders if it turns out to be a damage gain to alternate between builders in
Dança das Sombras
.
The four piece bonus applies a 6 second buff if
Punhalada pelas Costas
,
Tempestade de Shurikens
or
Golpe Sombrio
hit critical that empowers your next Finisher. The duration is fairly short but this shouldn't be a big issue given the frequency of finishers as well as the high amount of critical strike chance of your builder from talent nodes.
Nodes that work well with the 4 piece bonus
Ladino, Subterfúgio, Conjunto de Classe, 4 pç
are
Precisão Mortal
,
Letalidade
and
Sangue Frio
in the Class tree. They all increase the critical strike chance,
Sangue Frio
looks a bit weak at the moment, so it is unlikely that we take it.
The Specialization tree offers several nodes that modify or add damage to our finishing moves with
Sombras Replicantes
,
Finalizações Sombrias
,
Estratagema Secreto
and
Finalidade
. There are talents like
Flagelação
as well as
Dança Macabra
in addition which can, combined with proper play, amplify the finisher damage even more.
Símbolos da Morte
is another spell in the toolkit that can, if combined with
Execução Planejada
,
Inevitabilidade
and
Morte Rápida
, lead to additional 10% critical strike chance for 50-60% of the fight.
And finally the two piece bonus
Ladino, Subterfúgio, Conjunto de Classe, 2 pç
also increases the frequency of the four set proc.
One last thing, the tier set bonus has currently a number of bugs on the beta realm that make the 4p damage effect not apply correctly to everything and does not work with
Lâmina Lúgubre
currently. But these bugs should be fixed in the near future.
How strong is the Tier Set Bonus?
The Tier set bonus looks good. Both the two piece as well as the four piece bonus don't force you into a specific play style and both work well in single target and multi target situations and have several talent nodes that interact with them. There are talent nodes that look more appealing with the tier set, but nodes are spread out over the tree in a way that you can't always get everything. This gives room for experimentation and potential to adjust talent builds depending on encounter or dungeon. Something to keep in mind is that the numerical strength of the bonus is something that can easily change which makes power level hard to predict.
Conclusion
The tier set bonuses in Dragonflight are not gameplay altering for a change. They are fairly simple and the subtlety rogue version basically just ends up as a mostly passive damage increase. The set bonuses are also a lot more deterministic compared to the double random proc effects in Shadowlands witch makes damage output a lot more predictable. Both are welcome changes and result in a very positive first impression.
