We're covering 3 uses of Spell Reflection in Upper Karazhan that will reflect the damage at full value, making them deal massive damage to your enemy, allowing you to shave time off your Mythic+ run!
Introduction
Reflexão de Feitiço
is a weird ability; in some dungeons, it is entirely worthless. In others, it can reflect some damage, remove dangerous mechanics, or even in some cases, completely change the outcome of a fight. Each expansion, some spells end up being remembered as egregiously good to reflect - Mordretha's
Foice Ceifadora
in Theater of Pain was so good to reflect that DPS warriors would taunt to reflect it in high keys for three seasons!
Today, we'll go through three
extremely
high-value uses of Spell Reflection in Upper Karazhan. All of them can be performed by DPS and Protection Warriors, although the first and last ones have a relatively small amount of risk attached if the player is not a tank.
All of these reflected attacks damage enemies
at their full value
. The higher the key level, the more value these have!
Trash: Reflect
Lâmina de Força
on Abstract Nullifier
On the way to Curator, your way is blocked by an Abstract Nullifier. This unique trash mob hits the highest threat target every 16-18 seconds with
Lâmina de Força
, a heavy magic tankbuster with a short cast time. This cast also leaves a DoT on the target.
Both the direct damage and the DoT can be reflected on the Abstract Nullifier with
Reflexão de Feitiço
. You can see the result of this on
this log of our +25 5-tank Upper Karazhan
. A single spell reflect accounted for 18% of the damage taken by the Nullifier.
Chess Event: Reflect
Talho Real
for Huge Damage
The Chess Event in Karazhan is unfortunately, a slow grind. You can make it faster with a warrior in group, though!
The King starts with an aura of
Realeza
, which reduces his damage taken by 90%. Each time you kill another NPC on the board, this aura is removed for a short period of time, and the king is stunned.
While the King is not stunned, moving within one tile of him causes him to cast
Talho Real
, which, after one second, deals
massive
damage to any player adjacent to the king on the board. And, as it turns out, even though this looks like an AoE, it is actually "resolved" to individual events, which themselves can be reflected back on the king using
Reflexão de Feitiço
. This deals a relatively heavy amount of damage to the King (~70k on +25 fortified), at little cost to the warrior. All they have to do is be close for ~3 seconds.
Even better, since
Talho Real
has a delay and continues to trigger even if the king is stunned, with proper timing, you can trigger
Talho Real
just before a piece is killed, and reflect it while the king is stunned for an eye-watering amount of damage. On +25 fortified, this deals
a massive 730k damage
. It is also affected by any effect amplifying physical damage from all sources (
Toque Místico
being the prime example of this -
this log
from Miniwar highlights it clearly).
You can see this being done by Nomeratur below:
DPS warriors can trigger this on their own and reflect hits completely safely - don't get too close to the king, as he melees pretty hard!
Viz'aduum: Reflect
Explosão Incendiária
The last, and possibly the most impactful spell reflection trick we will cover today is on Viz'aduum, the last boss of Upper Karazhan. One of the many mechanics players get to deal with is
Explosão Incendiária
, a cast Viz'aduum frequently uses when nothing else is available for him to cast, and which is normally kicked due to the brutal amount of damage it deals to the tank.
Explosão Incendiária
can be reflected back on Viz'aduum, and your tank should do so on cooldown. It deals the same amount of damage as it will do to your tank (on +25 fortified, a single
Reflexão de Feitiço
has a net value of just over 500k damage, as seen on
this log
).
It is sometimes difficult to manage this in a pug, however, as
Reflexão de Feitiço
has a relatively short cooldown and Viz'aduum's cast sequence and spell queueing depends on whether you kicked previous casts of
Explosão Incendiária
. There are, however, some tricks:
Viz'aduum's initial cast on the first platform is
always
a
Explosão Incendiária
If you let that initial cast through on the any platform, the second cast is also
always
a
Explosão Incendiária
. If you kicked it, it will be a
Desintegrar
instead
If
Sombras Caóticas
is off cooldown, the cast immediately after
Desintegrar
will be
Sombras Caóticas
. If not, it will be
Explosão Incendiária
Knowing this, and with teammates able to follow basic instructions, it should be possible to get the very first reflect on any platform relatively easily, and a very basic interrupt tracker should allow you to figure out when you can hit
Reflexão de Feitiço
and inflict massive damage on Viz'aduum.
This damage is not just random DPS, either - it allows you to skip entire casts of
Sombras Caóticas
by shortening the time you spend on each platform (Viz'aduum phases at 66% and 33%, and the
Explosão Incendiária
DoT
keeps ticking at full value
when he moves between ships if the DoT is active on him).
DPS warriors can also abuse this in the same way they abused Mordretha's
Foice Ceifadora
. Coordinate with your tank before doing so, though!
