Argus is a planet steeped in Draenei lore, and outside of the quest series, there are little details which enrich the history of the Draenei, both serious and silly.
In this post we'll examine several of our favorite easter eggs like zone details and flavor NPCs--let us know if the comments if any other details stand out!
Hakmud of Argus
Hakmud de Argus
is a familiar face on the
Rédeas do Mamute Túndrico do Viajante
, the Alliance three-seater mount. Every time you pick up a passenger or dismount, he gets ejected from the mammoth and isn't too happy about it, with exclamations like "Why do you treat Hakmud like this, buddy."
Hakmud has finally made it back to Argus and has new lines when he's kicked out of the mammoth--he's a bit happier, but still annoyed.
You take Hakmud home and abandon him.
Hakmud never gets to relax. Not even on his own world!
It is not like Hakmud wanted to see his namesake or anything. Goodbye!
It does look like he's gotten some well-deserved rest though; you can find
Hakmud de Argus
standing in Mac'Aree, happy to be home:
"I am home. I have been lost for so long, stranded on a strange world with strange people... There are no words for this moment."
Thal'kiel
Unsurprisingly,
Caveira dos Man'ari
has a lot to say about returning to his homeland, such as the following:
Home! I almost missed it.
This city was once the greatest of Argus. Look how it has fallen! The once mighty houses, are now mere pawns of the Legion. Soon they will serve us as well.
We also fight
Arauto-mor do Despertar Aargon
, the successor to Thal'kiel, as part of
Desafio do Guarda-pórtico: Maestria
. We later encounter him as
Aargoss
in
Mercado de almas
. Thanks to Celellach for pointing this out!
You can read all about Thak'liel's story in the
demonology artifact book
:
Behold the skull of Thal'kiel the Denied, once a great leader of the eredar. He gazed into the depths of the Great Dark Beyond and embraced that which gazed back. He saw worlds consumed by fel fire, dark creatures of the Twisting Nether overrunning mortal civilizations, the conquest of creation. Now all that remains of him is this skull, which lends the bearer his power to command demons.
Like most skulls, Thal'kiel's comes with a cautionary tale. Never mind that it's been heeded by none.
Grand Vizier Jarasum
Before
Lorde Jaraxxus
was a demon lord, he was essentially the office manager for the Conservatory:
Ah, the Grand Vizier.
He acted as the Arc-Consul's second and oversaw much of the day to day operations in the Conservatory.
When discipline was needed, it was often his voice that would ring out. He was not well liked, but he was respected nonetheless.
It is my understanding that he changed his name to Lord Jaraxxus when he took the Legion's fel magics for his own.
Beyond that, I know nothing of his fate.
When you face him in combat for
Desafio do Guarda-pórtico: Maestria
, his spirit uses the familiar quotes of
Lorde Jaraxxus
:
Grand Vizier Jarasum says: I am unimpressed.
Grand Vizier Jarasum says: You face Jarasum, Grand Vizier of the Conservatory!
Grand Vizier Jarasum says: Your arrogance will be your undoing.
As
Lorde Jaraxxus
he really takes these quotes to the next level by one-shotting
Walfrido Crepistala
:
Wilfred Fizzlebang yells: Thank you, Highlord. Now, challengers, I will begin the ritual of summoning. When I am done a fearsome doomguard will appear!
Wilfred Fizzlebang yells: Prepare for oblivion!
*Wilfred Fizzlebang casts summoning spell*
Wilfred Fizzlebang yells: A-HA! I've done it! Behold the absolute power of Wilfred Fizzlebang, master summoner! You are bound to me, demon!
Lord Jaraxxus yells: Trifling gnome! Your arrogance will be your undoing!
Wilfred Fizzlebang yells: But I'm in charge here...
*Lord Jaraxxus one-shots Fizzlebang with a spell*
Lord Jaraxxus yells: Insignificant gnat!
Lord Jaraxxus yells: You face Jaraxxus, Eredar Lord of the Burning Legion!
Jed'hin Tournament
Jed'hin Wrestling
is a fan-made concept among Draenei RP groups on Wyrmrest Accord that made it officially into Warcraft in Patch 7.3. There's even a daily quest -
Torneio Jed'hin
. Learn about the rules at
isei-silva's tumblr
. Here's an excerpt:
Jed'hin is a competitive full-contact wrestling sport where a wrestler attempts to force another wrestler into submission within a large, circular ring. The sport originated in Argus, where it was practiced professionally.
In addition to its use as a trial of strength in combat, jed'hin has also been associated as a spiritual ritual.
Professional jed'hin can trace its roots as a form of sporting entertainment. Only males participate in jed'hin due to both physiological reasons and cultural ones: Males represented perseverance and strength, females represented diligence and gracefulness.
In WoW, you can participate by hopping into the combat ring and playing as one of the competitors. You'll get the vehicle abilities
Bloqueio
,
Contra-ataque
,
Agarrão
,
Empurrar
.
On the side of the tournament, you'll find many familiar faces, some from
Tuure, a Luz dos Naarus
lore and others from Warlords of Draenor.
Reparadora Askara
was the former wielder of
Tuure, a Luz dos Naarus
, the Holy Priest Artifact. In the
book text
for the Artifact, we learn that she made a heroic sacrifice to allow the Draenei to escape the planet Shar'gel:
When the Burning Legion beset the draenei on Shar'gel, Askara finally understood the strange vision of the future she had seen so long ago. One day, her people would locate a new home, but she was not fated to join them. She would die on Shar'gel to give them a chance to find that sanctuary.
Askara and seventy other draenei volunteered to distract the Legion. With their blood, they would buy the rest of the renegades the time to escape Shar'gel. The battle between the demons and these brave defenders would go down as one of the greatest instances of self-sacrifice in draenei history.
Hundreds of demons smashed into the seventy-one like a battering ram of fel-forged steel, but the defenders gave no ground. Not a single inch. Every time a draenei teetered on the brink of death, Askara was there. She charged through the battle lines and mended the wounded with T'uure's holy Light.
Because of Askara, the seventy-one fought with the courage and strength of a thousand. Because of her, the draenei race escaped annihilation.
Sitting next to her is
Guardiã de Relíquias Calindris
. They appear to be friends, but later
Guardiã de Relíquias Calindris
falls to the Legion, created
T'uure Escurecida
, and must be defeated by Holy Priests in
Retorno da Luz
:
He entrusted the artifact to an eredar priestess named Lady Calindris. She was one of the few demons who understood the draenei's holy magics. What was more, Calindris had an intimate knowledge of T'uure itself. Long ago on Argus, the priestess had acted as a caretaker of the eredar's holy relics.
It took years before Calindris finally bent T'uure to her will. After a series of grim rituals, she transformed the artifact into a dark reflection of itself. Where once T'uure inspired hope, now it would spread fear. Where once the relic healed, now it would cause wounds to fester.
Naielle
is a little girl watching the tournament. Alliance players best remember her as
Exarca Naielle
from Shadowmoon Valley and Gorground. However, she also plays a role in the main universe.
World of Warcraft Chronicle Volume 2
reveals she sacrificed the Rangari in the Siege of Shattrath, buying valuable time for Velen and Draenei citizens to escape. While the Draenei knew they could not win the battle, they kept enough reinforcements behind to trick the orcs into thinking all Draenei were defeated.
Conselheiro Larohir
was also part of the heroic sacrifice in the Battle of Shattrath,
staying behind
to serve as a distraction for others to escape.
Conselheiro Othaar
excitedly watches the matches, reminding players this sophisticated form of combat shows how far the Eredar civilization has come. But dark things are in store for
Conselheiro Othaar
. In the main timeline, he betrays Velen on Draenor, transforming into the demon
Socrethar
who is the focus of the Netherstorm questline. In the alternate timeline, we find
Exarca Othaar
peacefully leading the Draenei in Shadowmoon Valley...until it's revealed in
O verdadeiro nome do traidor
that he's imprisoned
Exarca Maladaar
and murdered
Exarca Hataaru
. This culminates in his defeat in Shattrath in the Garrison Campaign quest
A morte de Socrethar
...but he's preserved part of his soul and returns as a Hellfire Citadel boss
Socrethar the Eternal
.
Conselheiro Hataaru
is also watching the matches, saying that he participated in a few back in the day. He is also presumed dead along with
Conselheiro Larohir
and
Conselheiro Larohir
in the Siege of Shattrath. In the alternate timeline, he is murdered by
Conselheiro Othaar
.
Akama
is one of the major visible Draenei figures throughout several expansions. Players first encountered him in the Burning Crusade, as part of
Black Temple Attunement
and the boss
Vulto de Akama
. At one point he joins the
Brawler's Guild
, and in Legion, Demon Hunters can recruit him as a Class Hall Champion.
There are several new NPCs (
Kuraam
and
Artesão Y'selfa
) that sell fun flavor items like
Anel de Cauda Pequeno
and
Cristal Trovejante
.
Kil'jaeden's Terrace
Over by Kil'jaeden's Terrace, the statue of Velen has been defaced. Looks like the Eredar didn't take too kindly to his escape.
During the World Quest
Púlpito do valentão
, many spirits are present to hear Kil'jaeden's speech. Many famous Draenei NPCs make cameo appearances as well.
Kil'jaeden's speech:
My people, I have called you here to share a revelation.
For so long, we Eredar have been alone in the universe.
We need not endure this solitude any longer.
He has shown us the path to a new future.
In partnership with our new ally, the light of the Eredar will shine bright across the cosmos!
I ask you, now, to raise your voices in praise. Praise Sargeras!
The beacon of our civilization shining bright... upon what we feared was an empty Void.
The Triumvirate has received a visitor from another world!
He offers us power unlike any we have known before.
Famous Draenei:
Eco de Restalaan
- In the novel
Rise of the Horde
, we learn he was a close friend of Velen who served as the captain of the guard in Telmor. He saved Durotan and Orgrim Doomhammer during a routine patrol of Terokkar Forest, and later met his demise at the hands of Durotan in battle, under an attack ordered by Blackhand - a deed that would haunt Durotan.
Eco de Maatparm
- References
Maatparm
, the first time players heard Mac'Aree in game!
Eco de Valok
-
Valok, o Íntegro
is the Draenei prisoner your Death Knight must kill in the starting zone quest
Uma surpresa especial
.
Eco de Velen
and his family - Velen listens to the speech off in a corner, next to
Eco de Arquimonde
. Nearby are his son
Eco de Rakeesh
, transformed into a vicious demon that meets his demise at Velen's hands in
Arauto da Luz
, and
Eco de Nuuri
, presumably Velen's wife also left behind on Argus.
Eco de Arkhaan
- We find Arkhaan as a Broken on Mac'Aree in the
War of Light and Shadow
questline, trying to keep the other Broken from falling to the Void.
Eco de Talgath
- This is the draenei who betrayed Velen to Kil'jaeden, when Velen was expecting Talgath to round up all the Draenei that wished to escape Argus. In the quest
Por todo o universo
, Velen faces off against Talgath again, and refreshing, when Talgath does the standard villain-escaping speech, smites him once and for all.
Eco de Hatuun
- A pre-Broken version of
Chefe Hatuun
, the leader of the Krokul on Argus, affiliated with the
Argussian Reach
. While he held off Kil'jaeden's assault and allowed Velen to escape, he's grown bitter about being abandoned on Argus and greats Velen in a chilly manner.
Eco do Cristaleiro Netrius
- This blacksmith was the forger of the Blood Death Knight artifact
Gorja dos Condenados
. Read the full story on the
Maw of the Damned page
:
Kil'jaeden was one of the eredar race's most beloved leaders. With a mere word, he could sway the hearts and minds of his people. When he joined the demonic Burning Legion, many eredar blindly followed his path.
One of the first to do so was a gifted smith named Netrius. He adored Kil'jaeden, and he spent his life seeking the eredar leader's approval. Netrius saw pledging himself to the Legion as the ultimate expression of his loyalty.
As a reward for this loyalty, Netrius was remade in the Legion's all-consuming fel fire. Volatile magics blazed through his soul, warping his mind and body forever.
Netrius-now known by the name Netrezaar-was never the same again. Even his feelings toward Kil'jaeden changed. What was once admiration had twisted into a dangerous obsession. It wasn't enough to simply win Kil'jaeden's approval. He needed more.
An idea took shape in Netrezaar's mind. To satisfy his obsession, he would create a weapon to consume Kil'jaeden's life force. That weapon would one day become known as the Maw of the Damned.
Velen's House
In the quest
Organização sem fins proféticos
, you meet Velen in a sad moment of reflection in a small house:
You came upon me in a moment of reflection.
<Velen peers at you with a tired expression.>
There is no time for such sentiment. We must press on.
Upon closer examination, he's looking at a stuffed toy - likely reflecting on taking care of his son as a child.
Krokul Lore Museum
We've previously covered the
Krokul Lore Museum
on Argus, a set of relics that shows just exactly how the survivors on Argus protected their culture after the Legion's invasion. One of the notable items is the
Santuário do Grande Guerreiro
, a tribute to Broxigar, the only mortal to wound Sargeras.
