IceWolfDK has pointed out in the comments that you do not automatically learn the Alliance and Horde versions of each gift when opening one. You must loot toys on both sides in order to obtain all four toys.

There are a total of six presents that can be "opened" by completing the quest given by the gift itself under the tree. You can open these gifts on all of your characters, you aren't limited to just one character! The gifts can be found under the tree in Ironforge for the Alliance or Orgrimmar for the Horde.
