Blizzard, I have had enough of the pandaering to straight people playing World of Warcraft. Why are there basically no gay characters in WoW? This is discrimination if I ever saw it.
I'd like to counter that by asking "why do you think there are no gay characters"?
Think about it. Who's to say that Sylvanas isn't a lesbian? Who's to say that Thassarian and Koltira were just friends? There are extremely few characters whose orientations we can confirm, even counting minor ones like Gail Nozzywig.

Because when it comes down to it, no matter how many GLBT players there are....it's just not that 'important' to the game itself.

I'll answer the question with a question: How do you know there aren't any gay lore characters?

Interest
I thought it was implied there was.

Umm....anyone do the Horde Theramore scenario? I am pretty sure the guy at the end of that was ...ummm....not straight.

Nah. He was just into BDSM or something.

There are several obvious homosexual characters in wow. Falric and Marwyn, in icc-HoR as an example.

You know....even if some characters are 'revealed' as being homosexual, it wouldn't change anything; after all, I don't see Blizzard dipping into the stereotype pool for them(in other words, there are probably characters who are gay/lesbian now, but since only really horrible writers make characters based around their sexuality, you just don't realize it).

Also /agree with Adamsm on your last part, is kinda what I was trying to say but much shorter and sweeter.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##I'm removing some content from this post. There's a generalisation which is not appropriate and several 'colourful euphemisms' that don't come close to masking the content enough to make them appropriate for posting on this forum.

Actually, the Horde and Alliance JC daily questgivers are both female, and in
this
quest the quest text is fairly obvious about them having romantic interest in a female ship captain- Lila. So they have, in fact, written it in. They just didn't make it a publicity stunt.

Besides Falric and Marwyn, there are some others that are obviously homosexual, strangely they are all male though:
Moroes in Karazhan, Nexus lord Shaffar in mana tombs, Terrestian Illhoof with his twink lover, Wilfred Fizzlebang in ToC, Milhouse Manastorm and Kel´Thuzad.

This. A writer has to consider, is the character being gay important to the story I'm telling, or do I just want a token or two?
There are several characters that are implied to have interest in other characters of the same gender, and there are some that show interest in your own character no matter the gender. I believe this is enough touching that topic. Anything more would possibly be "having a gay character just for the sake of it"

didnt valiona and theralion (the 2nd encounter in BoT) used too have voices who were more stereotypically gay?
but they changed it cause people didnt like it/were offended?
doubt they went or will go on that tour agian for a while.
its hard too please everyone.
They did...but then again, is it wrong to take out a stereotype voice, even if it's 'funny' to hear a giant purple-blue dragon speak like that? Of course, if they were going to do that, all of the Worgen's and Troll's would lose their fake accents lol.
And of course, look at what happened Ji Firepaw, where people complained in Beta because he hit on Female Player models heh. It was actually amusing seeing a character like that in WoW for once...sadly though, we just can't have fun things.

I demand more Northern Italian characters. And we need Argentinian characters too. And... OH THE TERRIBLE DISCRIMINATION... where are the characters chronic cold urticaria?
