Jantalan whistled faintly a haunting tune as he continued to climb. He kept the pace well, though though made some racket with the various items strung about his belt clattering in accompaniment to any sudden movements.

In comparison, the felblood made hardly a sound except the faint flutter of her coat and cloak and her breathing, until she suddenly hissed to catch Jantalan's attention. There was a carved balcony a hundred feet or so above and slightly off to one side, and she nodded to point it out. Soft orange light and low voices came off it.

"Submit? Perhaps." Tharvulius bobbed his head, thinking. "I say we start as equals. I'd hate to be taken advantage of. Afterwards? Well, we'll see."

Jantalan fell silent. He nodded in answer to her, and resumed his slow scaling of the mountain.

"Fair enough," Telesa replied. "But if you want an alliance, you must aid me in the coming task. I am going to war."

"War you say?" Tharvulius nodded. "I can do that. I make a rather good assassin."

Minutes later Tserya landed softly on the balcony -- there was hardly a sound save for a muffled
thump
-- and the next moment she disappeared inside to the sound of swords being drawn.

Climbing over the rail, Jantalan landed softly on the balcony. He looked about lazily, and faintly smiling, followed Tserya inside.

Standing between two unmoving bodies, a dwarf and a human both bleeding profusely, the felblood half-smiled back at him. They were in a side-room of sorts, with a crackling fire in a hearth beside a coffee-table and two armchairs. A small bookshelf and the closed oaken door was the only other things of note inside.
"You should take that out", she said and brought her sword-point to bear on Jantalan's sheath. The elf's own weapon was an ancient felsteel blade, a straight backsword with a wrought basket-style hilt of some elegance. The green-tinted metal was darkened at the tip by still dripping blood.

"I'm afraid if I do, someone must die," Jantalan said happily. "And sadly, you have already ended two of the lives in this room. Since I have no desire to cross blades with you, I must refrain, if I may."

"Oh I would love to spar with you, but it was not what I had in mind", Tserya replied, bringing her sword into a more relaxed guard position to the side. "It's a bit dark for enjoying the view, and I'm here on business. Either you help, or you leave."

"When there is someone to kill before me, I will gladly," he said. "But I cannot draw my blade otherwise. It's one of those unfortunate rules of technique."

"Quirky." The felblood shrugged, and sidled to the door. "I suppose you don't happen to know the way?"

"Why, I don't even know what you're looking for!" Jantalan said amiably, even as he walked towards the doorway.

Arms folded in the sleeves of his heavy garments, Jantalan wandered down the halls of the mountain keep. The darkness was broken by torches or channels where streams of magma coursed down, filling the space with a hellish golden glow. The heavy stone of the halls pressed in with the weight of the mountain, though the floors and walls were expertly level and chiseled. The way ahead suddenly opened in a broad street, the walls widening suddenly into a vast open chamber beyond a gate. Doors looked out on a large avenue from one side, the other ending in a sudden rail over whcih could be seen more levels of the city falling away, lit by the burning falls of molten rock dripping from somewhere above. Here life could be seen. Grim faced dwarves with skin the colour of ash, moving about their business, whatever form that took. Most were armed and armoured. They failed at once to notice the strangely dressed man, heads bowed, contemplating troubles of their own.

Desolace
A whistling echoed through the forest, followed by the sound of clopping hooves. From one direction or another, something approached Espen along the path.

Espan stopped. He turned this way and that, glowing yellow eyes taking in the surroundings as he tried to discern the source of the sound. The foliage on the sides of the paths were unlikely to allow much through, the canopy which arched over the path letting in only a sprinkling of daylight, filling the path with a quiet gloom.
