Heat stroke - Mojave desert - 2002
I still have headaches.
That's the closest, even though I've been in 5 vehicle accidents, one of which was fatal.

I had a really nasty fever (around 42 degrees Celsius) when I was 7. Like rank's, it ended in convulsions and stuff and apparently (I don't really remember myself) I was that close to dying. Took me a long time to recover.
In fifth grade, I also nearly choked on a hamburger. Please don't laugh.

I've had two close calls: once, a 104 fever when I was 4. I remember I was wearing a Bart Simpson shirt as my mom rushed me to the ER. As soon as we got in, my fever was broke.
Second, when my boyfriend got his new pickup and we were driving out of town for dinner and hit a patch of black ice. Spun the pickup around at least 5 times into the ditch. It was the first time I've ever experienced something like that, and I don't care to ever do it again.
But we got out of the ditch, drove the other 5 miles to our destination, and had a wonderful dinner that was accompanied by jitters and "Holy %^&* I can't believe we didn't get hurt" conversations.
On our way back, though, we did see a semi jack-knifed on its side in the same spot, as well as a flat bed truck with it's tie rod dangling there.

I swear to god this has been asked before...I know I've nearly fallen off a lot of high places, been within firing range of a shooting, and had a hammer thrown in my general direction, but closest? I can't be sure.

Ahh, I posted several dangerous, painful and precarious situations I've found myself in, but none seemed really "fatal" - erased them now. I think the closest times I've come to death were crossing roads: several times in fact. Once, when I was lagging behind my father and sister in crossing the road. They gestured to me to stop and not to cross. I waited for 20 seconds, then spurted across the road, narrowly missing being hit. The driver braked after just passing me, got out of the car and screamed at my father. My father apologised and then hit me.
Similar occasions twice in secondary school. Once, my friend and I got out of the bus, I said something to him while focusing ahead of me, then looked to my right and noticed he'd crossed the road. Absent mindedly stepped onto the road, slipped and fell in front of the bus. It hadn't moved since stopping, luckily. Another time the janitor yelled that he was closing the school gates, so I began to run across the road towards the school during winter and slipped on some ice into the path of a car. It braked on time.

I think I once choked on a lifesaver, when I was really young.

Not very lifesaving, huh?

That would had been a rather ironic death. =/

Well, it was one of the candies, but still, yeah, haha.

I've been within ~30 minutes of death. All the details are save for close friends and family just because it's an embarrassing story; but suffice it to say, it required surgical object removal. And it was legit a race against time.
I've also when I was approx. 11 years old, been flung off a snowy cliff during a family snow day. It truly wasn't something that was intended to happen, but was the result of some poor decisions; mine for taking part, my brother (the adult) for allowing it to happen and taking part himself. We had taken the hood off of the old family pinto that had been given to my brother, tied it to the back and were taking turns with friends being pulled around a curve in the mountain. I had done it once, a friend had gone and it was my turn again (my brother driving) when it slid too far and I went flying. That is the only time I can truly say my mind has ever been utterly and completely blank. Everything went white; everything and then I remember coming to on the side of a mountain/cliff, barefoot and cut all up, having to climb back up by myself.
Edit: As a toddler on a trip to the beach in Oregon; my dad, my brother and I had gone to the water while my mom lagged a far bit behind collecting shells. The water caught me and as a toddler I wasn't strong enough to fight it, my dad told my brother to get me but my brother didn't take it seriously, I was taken about 10-15 ft before my dad knocked my brother upside the head, grounded him to the motel for the rest the trip and grabbed me up. All in a matter of seconds. But I don't know that I would have died there. I have no doubt in my mind that my dad sooner would have drowned trying to get me, then let the ocean swallow his little girl up.

I was recently wondering if anyone on wowhead watched PvP videos or commented on the Joystiq WoW site. I wasn't great at PvP and I haven't played WoW in several months, but I noticed I was still subscribed to Flaw so went back and watched Flaw 3 and really enjoyed it.
I often tend to go back and watch WoW PvP vids when I'm drunk actually.

Sometimes, I wonder what draws people to the places they frequent online, and if their online personality differs from their offline personality.

Honestly, what their faces look like(and no, not in the creepy stalker way); I just like to know what someone looks like when I am talking to them.
