I imagine the title will get some facepalms itself, however i'm going to pose the question itself, then put a lil info about it etc.
Should pvp gear be used to tank in?
This idea sparked when i saw druid tanks using pvp gear to up their stamina. Now i realize druids are crit immune and therefor dont need to look to reach a "def cap minimum" or w/e you wanna call it.
I've been working by, as have lots of/most of tanks; get def cap > stack stamina. Now, once a warrior/DK/Paladin has reached said defense cap, should you swap out "traditional" tanking pieces, for those PvP pieces which are higher in stamina?
For example, i recntly acquired
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40884
(this morning) from VoA 25.
Currently i am using
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50207
. Whilst i realize these are not the same ilevel so the comparison isnt strictly "fair", i couldnt but notice the potential gain of 17Stam, + a 30 Stam gem, so a gain of 47 stamina, no small amount.
So are the defensive stats worth sacrificing if stamina is truly ranked as high as it is amongst tanks i think the answer will probably be yes...
Thoughts?

I was hoping not to get answers like that last one there...
As it doesn't actually say anything useful, much less give a reason.
Could you provide evidence that the PvP boots i showed provide a lower EH number than the tanky boots?

If you're tanking caster bosses, go ahead.
If not, very iffy, you might possibly do more threat and more health, but you will certainly take more damage.
Just on those boots alone, you're giving up 47x3 avoidance stats (~1-2% after DR).

Hokay, well I'm glad stacking stamina doesnt go to the extreme's of losing all defesive stats which i was on the brink of believeing.
Perhaps some clarification with 2 tanky items could help me sort out the issue properly.
These items are again, different Ilevels, but this time the lower ilvl piece provides more raw Hp. (Sockets seem to = more Hp as you can choose where your stat allocation goes...)

vs.

I'm assuming you'd want to use the first item, but that goes against the rule of thumb of "once you hit def cap, stack stamina", as here you'd be sacrificing stam for defensive stats...
I imagine this would be a much closer comparison if it were the Heroic version of the sheild tho'...

Neverending winter, as BV is useless*; and you gain too many other stats for 16 stam to make up for.

Actually, Block Value helps threat a lot.
Provided he's not soft capped on it to prevent Shield of Righteousness from gaining more damage, which in ICC gear I have no idea how close he'd be.

You are confusing block RATING with block VALUE. You want Block Value, you don't want rating.
