...or do spells seem to cast from a further distance than before? Not that casters gained free spell range, just that if a player or mob trys to flee after the spell has started casting, it will cast from a further range than before.
Before it seemed to reach a 5 yard past range limit, now it seems to reach a 10 yard past range limit. Nowhere in the patch notes does it say anything about a change, but it sure looks like it changed.

That seems odd... specific spells you cast (I don't know what class you play mainly) might have had a range increase/decrease... for example, my Holy Shock as a paladin works from different ranges now than pre-3.0. I would give the patch notes another brief look to find your answer.
But then again, maybe it looks farther because you zoomed your camera out? =P
Nobutsrslyugaiz, I think it might be an actual change to whatever spell you use to knock off running mobs.

I'm not saying, for example, my Shadow Bolt can now be cast from 40 yards range.
Say I fear a mob and cast Shadow Bolt right after, before patch the mob could reach roughly 35 yards away and the bolt would still cast.
Now it seems that when I cast Fear on a mob and it flees then cast a Shadow Bolt, the mob can reach 40 yards away and still cast without failing due to out of range.
I play with camera at max range, so I dont think thats it.

I really don't know then. A 5 yard range is difficult to determine in game, so maybe it just
seems
different.
I really have no idea though.

seems plausible, I know the phenomenon you're talking about where the cast would continue up to a certain point (slightly outside the actual range, but due to already casting the spell the game gives you a little leeway). They may have buffed it, who knows?

With the improvement to cast kickback makes it more probable they did, it seems they felt casters weren't getting enough love. I could be wrong, haven't played my lock enough to definitively say they did or didn't, plus pre patch I was leveling a feral druid, so its been a while since I played a caster.

Mine was always castable from a 40 yard range. Maybe you need to recheck some sources in game or read patch notes.
Umm, no, shadowbolt has a 30 yard range. With 2/2 destructive reach it bumps up to 36. Not sure what you mean by always been able to cast from 40 yards, unless you're meaning it finishes the cast to a certain distance if you start the cast in range, which then it will cast from a slightly greater distance than 40 yards.
The only spells with a base range of 40 yards are healing spells.

Did you read his post either?unless you're meaning it finishes the cast to a certain distance if you start the cast in range, which then it will cast from a slightly greater distance than 40 yards. And that's happened as long as I can remember. If the target is in range when you're halfway through the casting, it will go off. That's my hunch at least, from the countless times it's happened to me.
