Elemental vs other casters

Ok i want to level a caster as my next toon and elemental looks pretty fun.

But how does it compare to other casters such as mage, priest, and lock.

Just wondering if it is worth rolling and how it stands up to other classes.

They are easy to level up although in the begining i would go enhancement as itemization in azeroth/kalimdor sucks for ele but is great for enhancement.

Alright but what about when at 80? can they compete with the others?

Mages and Warlocks are pure DPS classes; Shaman are hybrid.
Despite not being designed for consistently high DPS, in the right circumstances and right gear elemental can keep up with mages and warlocks.

Shadow Priests have the capability of putting out huge DPS at high levels of gear, but I understand the rotation/priority relies alot on timing and procs.

If you want to be top DPS, elemental is probably not the way to go. But it is bucketloads of fun!

I need to point out that ANY damage dealing class can do awesome DPS, but it all depends on the skill of the player and gear.
