Seen off the SE corner of Zan'vess, 21.16, 91.6

As these are supposed to drop the pattern for the High Society Top Hat I did some farming on these.

Using my Warlock I went underwater about halfway down to the bottom of the sea with Unending Breath at 29 / 95, not so far from the coast of Zan'vess, because that seems to be a place (or THE place) where two seahorses pass through during their rounds along the coast.

There seem to be two versions of these buggers - a slow one and a fast one. While I was able to get closer to the slow one while swimming, the fast version just paced away from me. That's the reason why I just stayed in one place, letting them come to me. At the place I waited both Seahorses would swim past me in casting range.

Tidbits:
- the water is sometimes quite clouded with view - even when maxed out in the graphic setup - reaching only about 50 meters or so. A target macro helps a bit (but see below)
- there seem to be only two wild seahorses around at the same time
- these two follow a course along the coast, going east to west and back again
- 29 / 95 seems to be the point where both courses cross
- respawning seems to take about four minutes, although they seem to spawn randomly on their route. So it might take up to six or seven minutes after a kill for the next freshly spawned seahorse to reach the position given above
- after a killing and looting them completely, the corpses take about three minutes to disappear. During this time a macro would of course target the corpse. So You need to look carefully right after a kill until the corpse disappears, as very often the two seahorses pass the position given above within a short time one after the other.

Using the spot and the "wait for them to come to me" tactic, I only managed to kill 19 seahorses over the course of one very boring hour.

According to WoW Armory, these mobs can drop two extremely rare patterns.

Top hat for tailors and cool shades for jewelcrafters.

I am currently farming these on my rogue. He's JC so I think I can only loot the Rhinestone design.
I'm not sure can these even drop the design (if the loot table is somehow mixed with Poseidus, Reins of Poseidus says guaranteed on Wild Seahorse but obviously it's not). However, the nature of Wild Seahorse is shady (two different Seahorses at a time with two different paths and not-so-fast respawn timer), indicating that these could drop something like these two patterns.

Mind you, these seahorses are quite fast so if they get away from you before you pull them, you should wait near the two big, tall rocks in the bottom of sea. I will update this comment if I ever loot the pattern.

As strange as it seems, this Seahorse and the Playful one from same zone are in the 'drops' loot table for the Reins Of Poseidus... in Battle net

According to blizzard, the seahorses in Dread Wastes have a chance to drop Pattern: High Society Top Hat and Design: Rhinestone Sunglasses. Who knows if they are actually dropping them, but if they are, all of these seahorses are located South of Zan'Vess. There are two Wild Seahorses, one fast and one slow. And there are two schools of Playful Seahorses, four per school. The seahorses each have about a 5 minute respawn timer. I recommend having a Cursed Swabby Helmet, an Aqua Jewel, and some Darkwater Potions.

The slow Wild Seahorse spawns around 19.7, 90.1, and moves in a clockwise oval with the farthest east point being around 29.8, 97.4. I don't remember how long his circuit takes, but for your first kill of him, you should fly around until you find him. After that, his spawn point will be close to where you're staying (and you'll know when he will be respawning).

The fast Wild Seahorse spawns around 20.2, 95.9, and its easternmost point is around 34.2, 95.3. It only takes it 1:50 to go there and back again, so in my experience, it's better to stay at the spawn point and wait for it.

Each school of playful seahorses has a leader, and if you CC the leader, the other three just wait for you to attack them.

The westernmost school takes about 0:56 to do a circuit, which passes close to the spawn point of the fast Wild Seahorse (19.7, 90.7).

The easternmost school takes about 1:30 to do a circuit, and the westernmost point is near 24.5, 95.9, a little to the east of a sunken ship.

It's still tedious to camp these guys, but hopefully this will make it a little more efficient for people. Good luck!

I farmed these for about an hour and a half on a toon that is both a tailor and a JC (so I figured twice the chance) and I also farmed the Playful's at the same time. The only thing I got were some gray's from the Wild's and one green. The Playful's dropped absolutely nothing.

Really a nasty grind, I just about went blind trying to spot the Playful's. They travel in groups of 4 and are small and quick. If I do this in the future I may just ignore them and only do Wild.

The only good thing is they respawn fairly quickly. Gwiez's comments are right on and extremely helpful. I used the sunken ship as my point of reference and found the slow Wild north and above the ship, the fast Wild south of the ship. One group of playfuls were west of ship and another group east.

The lack of comments of people confirming they've obtained any of the rare patterns off these mobs is certainly concerning. I just farmed these mobs for 2 hours searching for the Rhinstone Sunglasses design, and obtained only 2 patterns. Design: Burning Primal Diamond and Design: Reverberating Primal Diamond. Will continue this grind as it appears the elite rare spawns from Cata are just never up. At least these seahorses respawn every 3-5 minutes.
