When clicked, even in the wild, these little scorpids make a remarkably loud snarling-hissing sound, completely different from other scorpids of that size and color that I have seen. Vicious-sounding little beasts!

I'm guessing these aren't out at night time. It's 7pm server and none to be seen anwhere. I've even fought other critters to see if they'd come in the group but no.

The Scorplig is a slow ( about one every 10 min) spawn and there were none out at night they started spawning about sun rise server. Haven't found a rare one yet but seem to have a lot of rare grouped with them as so far about 3of 5 groups has had a rare.

Check the mountains behind the Dark Portal. I found a few around there.
I've never seen any around the crater.

I didn't have too much trouble finding these little battle pets, but I was having a problem determining their quality. I fought against two that said lvl 16 with 171 power, 171 speed. However, when I captured them I received two uncommon lvl 15s with 820 hp 160 power and 160 speed. If anyone can help determine the stats I am looking out for while farming for a rare catch, I would be grateful. Thank you.

Found today right after realm maintenance, farmed for about 20 mins with another player, i managed to pick up 4 before I stopped and the other player was there before I left so there was at least 10 spawns within 20 mins, not at all at once they continued to spawn one after the other.

I found one at 20:47 server time tonight just south of the Dark Portal on the mountains. It was poor quality and only one spawned.

I have been trying to find one of these for 2 hours. Going back and forth on the entire mountains south and east of the Dark Portal. Nothing.

Unlike what some people claim, the spawn seems to be rather rare.
After hanging on the spot for 30 mins waiting for one to spawn, I decided to get rid of some battlepets in the Tainted Forest. About 5 minutes later a single one spawned SE of the dark portal.

looked for these critters in the hills behind the dark portal and there were none to be found, so I went searching for other things to kil and capture. came back about an hour later and there were 4 of them, no rares but 2 uncommon. So they do spawn in the hills there, just need to be patient.

update: right after posting this, I went back to the game and there were 5 or 6 more the respawned, including my rare!

These, along with many of the other rarer battle pet spawns, seem to work much like fishing nodes--where only a set amount of battle pets can be on the map at one time. When wild pets are caught or killed in the zone, it frees up a spot for a new spawn to appear somewhere on the map. Because there are more 'normal' pet nodes in a zone, it is more likely that a 'normal' battle pet will spawn, with a smaller chance to spawn at the 'rarer' spawns. But it seems with enough catches/kills, the rarer battle pets will eventually appear.

So if you're waiting around for hours, it could be because no catches or kills are happening in your zone--especially if it's a low population area.

The first time I tried looking for the Scorpling, I was flying circles for an hour around the mesa and found nothing.

The second time, I checked the mesa, didn't see anything, then flew a lazy circle around Blasted Lands killing any pets that I could find. I did this for about 20 mins, then flew back and two had appeared. The were both poor, but at least I had caught one for achievements, and without waiting hours upon hours.

This trick has worked for other rares also, like the Jade Oozling and the Tiny Twister--both of which only have 5-6 spawn points in a zone. I generally hunt for pets around 2-4am, so I have little to no competition and don't have to worry about campers sweeping in as I clear pets.

I would add, try at night. Did not see any during daylight hours at all. However saw two upon log in while in zone.

I've been looking for this pet for over a week, logging in several times a day and killing nagas around the place where it's supposed to spawn. I was killing dozens of them all around the Dark portal and nearby hoping for scorpling to spawn, but not a single one spawned. Untill today - I flew further to the west, over to Tainted Forest and killed around 10 mobs there as well, not more, since I saw low lvl players questing there. Anyway, right away when I flew back - there was a freshly spawned scorpling, as if waiting for me :)
So, if you camp this thing, go kill some mobs in Tainted Forest, it might work for you as well :)

Was hovering over the mesa while I tabbed over here to check tricks to try and get it to spawn, tab back to the game to move, and one had spawned under me, and to my surprise it was a rare one! Woo!

I killed the Bonepicker Felfeeders flying above the mountain and got a spawn shortly after.

Prepare for killing even 40 critters in the zone, it took me that much to find one uncommon Scorpling. Critters can be found especially near/in villages, I recommend to wipe chickencoop (5-6 chickens there) in Sunwich. Horde players beware of angry alliance chicken supply guard :)

Also remember to check spawn spot often so that noone could steal your pet.

I only killed/battled about three critters around the mesa, then I started to kill the birds flying above it. I did two or three rounds of this. Then a scorpling spawned. There was about three other people flying around, but the Dark Portal was a whole mess of PVP at the time so I don't know if they were pet collecting and killing/battling critters or not. Anyway, it worked for me. At about 10:30 pm. It's an uncommon. Which was better than I was expecting and I definitely would have settled for less so I feel very lucky, for a change.

Couldn't find any on the mesas near the portal, so I killed mobs further out. In the Tainted Forest, I attacked a Fire Beetle, and 2 Scorplings joined the battle, one of them rare. So it's possible to get them elsewehere in the zone too.

I got a rare Scorpid today by fighting a regular spawn near the area where these spawn. It was in the group of 3 that you fight in normal battle. Lucky I guess! But it confirms you can get these by fighting regular pet battles.

I've been battling random critters in the area, in hopes of finding a Scorpling as a secondary.

I think it's safe to say that they do not.

I've been at it for a few hours and no luck. Though, I could just be having bad luck. If you have seen one as a secondary, please post! :)

I just found around 10 spawned in this area at 10am realm time.
Fought 7, 5 were poor, 2 were white.

I had tried before at other times with no luck at all, and after I came back from a random dungeon (at around 10:45) there were none to be seen.

They also spawn outside the mesa, it seems.
I captured one at 42,33. Basically in the west between the ogre area and Dreadmaul Hold.

Just caught an uncommon one directly behind the dark portal on the mesa above at 3:00AM server time. Seems the best time to find them is when we should be sleeping.

All of the currently available Scorpids share the same basic stats and moveset. What varies is their breed availability, and of course, looks!

The Scorpling has access to most breeds, but will always be black with red speckles; which is a color combination available to all other species (except the fixed Durotar Scorpion) Perhaps it's worth pursuing if you're hellbent on your Scorpid being black; instead of having to settle with a Rare version of a random color from a different species.

Be warned, though - Scorplings aren't precisely a common sight, so getting a Rare (with the right breed, too!) will be no easy task.

A tip for those of you that are hunting for this guy in the Pre-WoD patch (6.0):

If you're having trouble finding this guy fly over to Zidormi at the northern entrance of the zone and ask her to go to the past. I found lots of these little guys roaming around in a seemingly barren zone

Patch 6.0.2 alert - these pets only show up in the legacy version of the Blasted Lands.

This means that now (post patch 6.0.2), you will need to visit Zidormi the Bronze Dragon (human female model) in Blasted Lands near the entrance to Swamp of Sorrows (North of the map, the road that leads out) in order to see and pet battle the Scorplings. Talk to her and ask her to show you a vision of the older Blasted Lands, and she will give you a buff that shows you the phased, older version of the zone.

That's all. Hope it helps anyone who hasn't caught one or is searching for an elusive rare!

As of 6.0.2 for those of you trying to get this pet the iron horde has messed it up and you will NOT get it to spawn. How ever, if you come along the path from Swamp of Sorrows... Just as the ground turns orange and you enter Blasted lands look to your right there is a human NPC standing on a hill. Talk to her and you can convert Blasted Lands back to the way it used to be before Iron Horde. I was then able to get it no problems what so ever!

Seems like with WoD the spawns were greatly increased.
At 8 am I flew over from Stormwind to Blasted Lands and went to the dark portal. On the plateau south of it I found my first Scorpling and snagged it.

Not sure if this is just during the lunar festival or not, but I used Zidormi to travel back in time. The ridge was covered in these little buggers! ^.^ Happy Hunting!

Flew around for many times killing critters and wait for scorplings spawns but never appeared, then i found out that if you fly to the entrance of blasting lands and talk to Zidormi and select the option to show you blasted lands before the invasion scorplings appears everywhere in the designated map locations. So it's not the lunar.

If you are high level and not finding the pet visit Zidormi and time travel back in time. I spent ages trying to force them to spawn with no luck. Traveled back in time there was 4 of them

If you want to see scorpling you need to switch Blasted Lands to old style, please talk to zidormi ( /way 48.2 7.2 ) he will allow you to switch between phased/low-level and Warlords/level-90+ versions of the Blasted Lands

I spent a few days looking for this pet, and i thought id give wowhead one more go. I was stupid enough to just look at the top most comment. Wasted so much time :( I did what the other posters mentioned, I spoke to Zidormi who is located at 48,07. She's easily missed but shes standing on the left side of the road. When I was in the past I flew down to 61,57 and found a few of them there 3 to be precise.

If you cannot find the scorpling, talk to Zidormi (located 48.15, 7.3) and change the map to pre-invasion. The go back to the area where the scoplings spawn and you will see them.

If you're ever having trouble finding these, try going to Zidormi at the entrance to the Blasted Lands. I was searching for a full hour finding only a very few pets, those being Fire Beetles and Adders.
I had the idea to go back before the invasion, went to her, flew over to their spawn points, found 2 right away.

I just spoke to zidormi and traveled back in time.. I went the spot where scorpling spawns and yes there was like 5 of them up! :)
