Great against flying pets - as magic pets usually are. It says the Soul Ward ability is also useful against dragonkin, but I wouldn't count on it too much since you can't predict what type of ability most dragonkins will use in a battle.

This little guy/girl/genderless-object is wicked powerful when paired up with something like an Emerald Whelpling who can cast Moonfire.

+10% damage affects the nice solid, hard-hitting Beam or Arcane Blast abilities. Sear Magic is useful to keep the damage flowing smoothly without any annoying/scary debuffs (and annoying weather affects are nullified by casting Moonfire). Most importantly Wish heals for 25% more resulting in an ability that heals your active pet for 62.5% of it's maximum health - this is massive!

To put this in perspective, this would completely heal through four back-to-back Beam abilities with room to spare! While the enemy is nearly dead you'll be good as new and ready to tackle the next pet.

Being able to target another pet with Wish makes it a power-combo that works well with any 3rd pet including another Magic Lantern for a heavy survivability build. As a plus, it's very easy to level since it gets a nice "placeholder" ability with Soul-Ward while it's leveling.

I have a pet leveling strategy using this pet that I wanted to share.

I use a rare Level 25 Magic Lamp and a rare Level 25
Hyacinth Macaw. Any rare flyer (moths or Glowfly) will work as well.

Pick any other pet that you wish to level quickly.
Rare quality would be best but not necessary.

Go to The Summer Fields in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
The Summer Fields are in the northeastern part of the Vale near the Mogu'shan Palace.

Find any of the pets you can battle in this area to start a fight.

All pets in this area are either Aquatic or Flying pets

Order of your team:

Leveling Pet
Magic Lamp Arcane Blast, Gravity, Wish
Hyacinth Macaw Slicing Wind, Adrenaline Rush, Lift-Off

Once the battle begins hit once with your leveling pet.
Swap out this pet for either
Magic Lamp (vs Flying)
Hyacinth Macaw (vs Aquatic)

These two will make quick work against all enemies. The only problem you might run into is a Civet that has Dive. If so don't use Lift-Off until your enemy has spent his Dive.

Also, the Glowfly's Cocoon Strike could waste a big Gravity hit so use Arcane Blast until you are sure your enemy has used its Cocoon Strike, then use Gravity.

Your leveling pet will grow by almost 1 level pet battle.
It took me 18 battles to raise a pet from level 10 to level 25 using a Lesser Pet Treat buff.

If you have a Safari Hat equipped or have a regular Pet Treat it will be even faster.

This area also works well if you are low on Pet Bandages as it is near both the Shrine of Seven Stars and Shrine of Two Moons for pet healing. That and your own pet healing spell will keep you out here for the full run until you get your pet to level 25.
Then just pick another pet and go again.

I have gotten this strategy to work with numerous pets starting at level 10. You might be able to start a pet that is even lower. They just need to be able to hit and take an initial hit or two.

Is this the only pet that both does magic damage and has a heal that doesn't just target itself?

I crafted a bunch of these because I wanted a rare one and the one I had was uncommon, but it kept giving me uncommon. Am I missing something?

If you are wondering why you or any other Horde enchanter in your guild cannot craft this, it is because it can only be crafted by the Alliance. Although the item that teaches it is BoE so it can be easily sold to the Horde even without caging it.

Different pet is craftable only by Horde Enchanters: Enchanted Lantern.
