The "white shirt" pirates as we tend to refer to them are one of the easier mobs to deal as you move up the ramp to get onto the ship proper. Their main attack is the "leaping cleave" where they leap to someone who is out of melee range and get off a nasty frontal cone attack that does a good bit of damage. It will hit whoever they leaped to and up to two other targets that are in front of them when they finish their leap.

The solution with these is that the tank needs to be in front, and everyone else needs to be within melee range behind the mob. Anyone who fails to stack (or warlock pets that stay at long range) will cause the pirate to leap to the person at range, then leap back into the middle of your group. Healers will hate you for this and you will see people losing large chunks of health or getting killed by the cleaves.

If you have problems with the pirates leaping to pets, tell your pet class people to put their pets on passive and pull them into melee range before telling the pet to attack. Warlock succubus and imp are notorious for this and they need to be pulled in close so that the pirate can't jump/cleave.

Yes, you can use the cannons against them. But often you'll find that the pirates will see that whoever is going after the cannon is out of melee range, and they'll get off a jump/cleave. The tank goes chasing after the mob, everyone gets spread out, and the pirate gets off another few jump/cleaves because people are no longer stacked up inside of melee range. Ignore the cannons, just stack up behind the pirates as close as possible.

map only shows pirates on the front side of the boat, but don't forget to go around to the back if you're looking for the pet as there's several groups back there too.

If you want to wear the gear in terms of its appearance, here are the items:

Weapon - Nordic Longshank
Helm - Red Defias Mask
Wrist - Buccaneer's Bracers
Feet - Buccaneer's Boots
Legs - Buccaneer's Pants
Waist - Buccaneer's Cord
Chest - Bloodsail Shirt

On Normal, these have a chance to drop Red Defias Mask and Parrot Cage (Green Wing Macaw)
On Heroic they drop nothing worthy, apart from the Embersilk Cloth.
