Mograine is located inside the actual Cathedral in the Cathedral Wing of Scarlet Monastery.

Before engaging Mograine, make sure you clear out everyone else inside the Cathedral, including the groups in the side wings.

Once you defeat Mograine, High Inquisitor Whitemane (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=3977) will appear. Once you get her to around 50% health, she'll sleep the entire party, resurrect Mograine, then heal herself. At this point, taking out Whitemane first is advised, since she heals.

Mograine is not lootable until after he is killed the second time. If you have a level 60 running the instance with you they should back off the DPS once Whitemane has appeared to prevent killing her before the scripted event occurs.

Be carefull not to nuke this fight, but to do it slow and mana efficient, at least during the first kill of Mograine.

I've been doing this with my shaman with jsut 4 man parties.
Once with a 42 Warrior, 41 Shaman, 41 Druid and me ( 35 ).
Later on I did this with: 43(dinged 44) Shaman, 41(dinged 42) Shaman, 39 paladin and me ( 37 that time ). Both runs were fast and easy. With the first party we were able to do 2 runs within 1hour, with the second party , I couldn't complete the 2 run because I had to go, but we managed to do the first run within 35mins :)

Good Luck to everyone; and some advice:
Kill Mograine the first time _as soon as possible_
When the lady arrives, just steady dps on her, no mana waste if possible, till she sleeps the party.
Third and last advice; kill the lady first and interrupt her heals, also dispell her shield ( if you have a shaman or priest in your party ).

If you boost (high level) do not kill him, then kill the High Inquisitor Whitemane before she has ressed him, or else you won't get his loot. He will remain "dead" but still show for Humanoid tracking classes on the minimap as alive..

Had to re-boost my friend cause I killed her too quick, before she slept us and ressed him. :P

You're in for a big surprise if you dont kill all the mobs in the cathedral first.

first time i did this with a 70 rogue, he chose not to kill everyone and when he aggroed...

everyone else that remained in the cathedral aggroed, too.
yeowch. realised no one mentioned the consequences of not killing everyone, but mind you it's gonna be close to a sure wipe if you don't clear everyone first.

Yea I know this info here is not very good and someone bored willl give me negative rating but: Scarlet Commander Mograine he's a level 42 elite and he is not hard to kill with a 5 man group of all lvl 38 or 39 +'s. If you are getting a run-through do not aggro him whith whole room because you will aggro every Scarlet Elite person in that whole Cathedral so i'd take out the elites first then go for him after that, After you kill him once High-Inquisitor Whitemaine comes out and rezzurect's him to full health you cannot stop her from doing so either. Cause at a quarter of health left she will make everyone in the group sleep. When you are fighting them both you will whant to kill her first cause I was farming this instance and she rezzed him twice wich really made me mad so you will whant to kill her first then kill Scarlet Commander Mograine.

If you're going there with some level 70 friends who are strong enough to kill High Inquisitor Whitemane BEFORE she sleeps everyone an dresurrect Mograine, it's VITAL that they hold back and let her do so anyway!

If you kill her before she does, Mograine will NOT be lootable and he will NOT give credit for the "In the name of the light" quest!

Renault Mograine was the younger son of Highlord Mograine, also known as the Ashbringer, because of the sword he wielded against the Undead. His life before the events leading to his betrayal is unknown, but presumably he joined his father's Scarlet Crusade at a relatively young age (he was believed to be about fifteen during the Third War).

The Grand Crusader, Saidan Dathrohan (the mortal form of the Dreadlord Balnazzar), had struck a deal with Kel'Thuzad, the lich who served as the Scourge overlord in the Plaguelands, to kill Mograine; Dathrohan/Balnazzar would be in a position to take over the Crusade, and Kel'Thuzad would be rid of a great threat to his hold in Lordaeron. To that end, Dathrohan recruited young Renault, promising him great power and prestige in his Crusade if he could kill his father.

Renault led Mograine and his advisor Fairbanks into the ruined city of Stratholme, the primary fortress of the Scourge in Lordaeron, where they were to be ambushed. Fairbanks fell relatively early on, but Mograine was able to destroy the Scourge attackers. When it became clear that Mograine would prevail, Renault turned and ran, hiding until he could seize the opportunity to complete his "mission" from the Grand Crusader. After expending his energies against the Scourge, Mograine was weakened and dropped his sword to the ground. That was the opportunity Renault had waited for. Coming from behind his father, the boy picked up Ashbringer and ran it through Mograine's heart, killing the Highlord and fouling the blade...and dooming both to the service of Kel'Thuzad.

As promised, Renault was promoted to Scarlet Commander and sent to the Monastery in Tirisfal, as commander of the operations there. But his treachery would not be forgotten, even by the death knight that was Highlord Mograine. An army of soldiers from the Argent Dawn and the Scarlet Crusade entered into the Necropolis Naxxramas and destroyed the corrupted Highlord. One of them took his fouled blade and travelled to the Scarlet Monastery, where Renault cheered the coming of a new Ashbringer to lead the Scarlet Crusade to victory against "the filth of this world" - in essence, those who were not of the Crusade. Upon entering the Crusader's Chapel, however, Highlord Mograine was to have his revenge...

The Highlord's spirit, chained to the corrupted blade, appeared in the chapel and confronted his horrified son with his treachery. He then lashed out, killing the Scarlet Commander instantly. Thus, as had happened in the reverse five years earlier, Renault Mograine was killed by his own father, an act of revenge that would not be forgotten by either the Scarlet Crusade, or any who witnessed it that day.

his drops are just dandy for a pally or warrior.

i am getting a pally power leveled right now (level 31) ran here a few times. got all the drops from SM (including deadmans hand :D) except his mace >.< want to go back and get it soon though.

edit: ran SM cath 13 times today and still no mace. shield dropped 7 times and the gloves 4 and legs twice. couldn't believe that it still hasn't dropped for me. does anyone know if patch 2.3 lowered the drop rate?

Be careful not to kill him too quickly. Two lvl 70 friends ran me through (druid and lock) and killed him in seconds. That seemed to bug Whitemane and she did not appear from her room, so we did not get to loot Mograine nor Whitemane.

Did armory and cath today with my warrior. we was lvl 36 warlock, 38 druid, 39 warrior (me), lvl 37 paladin and a lvl 40 mage. Had too much dps with us, so we killed whitemane before she ressed Morgraine, and got no loot from, him. Then we did it one more time, (and slowed dps down on whitemane) and I got the shield:D

Well from my experience, they buffed (nerfed?) whitemane so she couldn't die after sleeping you. I had a boost with 70 arms warrior, and he got her to 1%, with rend and deep wounds on her. She haven't died, ressed Mograine and healed to full (as it's supposed to happen).

I remember farming Cathedral with a friend of mine. I'm a shadow priest, and we managed to damage Whitemane to 10%. Unfortunate for us, i shadow word: pained her, she died before she could ress mograine, and we received no loot at all.

Pretty easy battle. Mage and paladin level 39.
We cleared the cathedral before starting the boss. Killed mograine the one handed only with a mace and with a wand. The pally must use Seal of wisdom. Be sure both players have full mana and hp when starting the Priestess. keep the priest they summon polimorfed all the time.
When she resses Mograine is time to start using Skills. ice veins and use all crit power of frost tree on the priestess. When she runs out of mana the paladin and you will still have half of ur tanks. Then kill both priests and then finally Mograine.

Key Skills: Seal of wisdom, Mana Gem, Evocation, Iceveins.

As a Paladin I aggroed everything in the cath and brought them to the door so they couldn't get behind me unlucky for me the mobs bugged and went through the door and Whitemane was waiting behind it but the mobs that went through the door when i took a step back aggroed whiteman and she ran out of the door (Even thoough it hadn't opened) my aoes killed her before it killed Renault and renault had not died once. I then killed Renault and Whitemane was not there to rez him so no drops fror me to D/E :(.

thats not Morgraine, its Renault. son of Highlord Alexander Morgraine. and Renault killed his father cause he was... well whatever cant remember how i write it ! but he killed his father and Fairbanks told him to help his Alexander...cus Fairbanks is the son of Highlord Alexander Morgraine ! and renault dint help him...and so Fairbanks hided in the kinda "chapel" so...

Pulled the whole instance a lvl 73 DK.

This is extremely easy as a blood/unholy DK. Run in, engage Mograine, kill him quickly, get Whitemane to 50% real quick and use Rune Tap (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=48982) before she sleeps you. After you wake up, run towards the exit, up in the fountain then jump down. All the mobs will be forced to run around, and you can get in a half/full Heavy netherweave bandage. Now, use Death and Decay (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=49937) and try to kill atleast one mob, so that you can use Corpse Explosion (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=51326). If this doesn't kill them, spam-use Pestilence (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=51427). Remember to use Rune Tap at every possibility and any other healing abilities (Trinkets, armor with heal abilities etc.)

When you have killed him in first phase, he falls to the ground, and High Inquisitor Whitemane appears from a room, she will begin fighting you. After she's been harmed a while, she will use a spell called Deep Sleep, which causes all of the Party to fall asleep. Meanwhile all is sleeping, she ressurects Scarlet Commander Mograine.

Actually, Renault was the oldest son of Mograine, he killed his father because he was jealous that his jounger brother Darion was always the favorite child, and that he, Renault, always had to look after him and get blamed by his father if something were to happen to him.

I'd like to note for you 80's running lower level friends, this is BY FAR the best boss to shoot for, As an 80 demo lock with 8k shadow bolts, I ran a level 30 friend through here, after pulling boss and immolation aura-ing all the adds, he was up 12 bars. Considering the whole instance took maybe 8 minutes, that's about 4 and a half levels an hour, well worth it no doubt.

Two-teamed the encounter as a 36 BM hunter with turtle pet and a 44 paladin.

The paladin tanked Mograine until he died, and Whitemane until the sleep. Then, I used my turtle to tank Mograine while the paladin took out Whitemane, then finished off Mograine.

sure.

first off there is Mograine Senior, AKA papa mograine.

this guy is the main and most powerfull mograine there is.

to make a long story short he had in his posession a cristal made of pure darkness, after he and his companions tried to purge the darkness within the cristal, it absorbed the light becoming a radiant piece of healing purifying light.

from that cristal a sword was made, it was called the ashbringer, and it was given to Mograine Senior, wich his first name is Alexander mograine.

he was invincible, thousand upon thousand of undeads would leap and him, but as he wielded the sword his enemy would be reduced to only ashes (hence his nickname Ashbringer).

he had 2 sons, the older son Renault Mograine, and his younger son Darion Mograine.

the older one, renault was jealous of his father, and in the end he betrayed his father, he lured his father into an ambush of undead, the father fought, and won, but was exausted, since he was tired, he droped the sword to the ground, and then renault made his move, stabing the father on the chest wiht the blade.

by doing this, the boy damned his father, himself, and the blade.

since the blade was used to comit a dishonorable deed, it became the corrupted ashbringer, and the dead father was resurrected as a Death Knight by Kel'tuzad.

and so, renault stayed in the scarlet monastery, and the dead father serving his former enemy on the Pre-burning crusade Naxxramas.

all the way till Wrath of the lich king.

on that expantion, Darion Mograine the younger son, invaded naxxramas wiht the argent dawn, fought against his undead father, and retrieved the blade, then he took it to the scarlet monastery, were the ghost of Mograine Senior took his revenge on his treacherus son.

however, Darion wanted more, he wanted to redeem his father, and remove the taint of undead and damnation he had on himself, so he did the unthinkable, he stabed himself with the blade, hoping that whatever curse gripped his father would be passed on to him.

this backfired, Mograine Senior was released yes, but Darion Mograine was transformed into a death knight in the service of the lich king.

untill the events at the scarlet enclave, it is here were Darion Mograine once again does the right thing, he uses the blade for an honorable purpose once more, trowing it at Tirion Fordring to save him from the lich king.

this act of selflessness was all that was needed to cleanse the blade, and to repay his kindness tirion healed Darion, and allowed him a place next to him as well as his knights of the ebon blade.

and so, the last of the mograines lives on, carrying on the curse started by his older brother, passed on to his father, and now an undeletable part of himself.

only time will tell if Darion will ever be free of the Curse of the Death knights, or if he will ever find a place on a world that resents and hates his kind.

This has nothing to do with the fight or his drops, but if anyone was wondering, this is the same person as this: One of the The Lich King's Right Hand Men. Thats right, he sued to work for the Scarlet Crusade, which are now the people that the Lich King wants to murder...

Hyperion Pauldrons, Imposing Bandana and Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade make a decent start to replicating Mograine's gear if you're in to such things. The whole Hyperion Set (sans breastplate and helm) have a similar look to the redish colors of hands, gloves and shoulders and would make a great Scarlet Crusader set.

Solo'd this instance and boss encounter as Level 42-43 Ret Pally (43 for this last boss encounter). Just take the time to confirm all mobs are dead before starting boss fight, and FF Whitemane when both bosses are up. Also on one attempt, a third NPC (healer) can to aid the bosses so I would recommend cc'ing it if possible or taking him out first if present.

this crappy guy killed his father or "the ashbringer" because he obviously favored darion because he reminded him of his dead wife. but he might have killed him because he wanted to be the next "ashbringer". if you kill the current wielder of the ashbringer with his sword you will become the next, but the sword has to except you as well, and it didn't then he went insane from a hidden demon and helped corrupted the scarlet crusade. i believe that is why he is the final boss in the scarlet monastery.

Renault Mograine (Scarlet Commander Mograine) and Sally Whitemane (High Inquisitor Whitemane) can be found, reinacting the ressurection scene, which takes place in the encounter, after you've killed Scarlet Commander Mograine, in Old Hilsbrad Foorhills, Southshore.

Now that the changes have been made to Scarlet Monastery, this NPC has been removed from the dungeon as of patch 5.0.4.
In addition, the Aegis of the Scarlet Commander no longer drops from either the new Commander Durand or from High Inquisitor Whitemane.
This is almost certainly the same situation for Heroic Mode because the data for that dungeon is already available.

oneliitle question tho'' why does it say that this npc is still in game and drop stuff like regular stuff green things and some rare things it says that he can still be found in the scarlet monastary entrance.

Here is the best transmog I could make of him, but please keep in mind that not all of his gear is obtainable:

Imposing Bandana
Mantle of the Desert Crusade
Leonine Breastplate
Gauntlets of Divinity
Mograine's Might

And before you say it, yes, the Boots of the Redeemed Property do have the correct texture, but the model is wrong. If that doesn't bother you, these are the closest boots we have to Mograine's Boots.

If we had Leonine's Color Scheme on the Imperial Plate Leggings, then those would be an exact copy of what he is wearing. Unfortunately, we don't have them, so I would recommend the Legplates of the Qiraji Command instead.

There exists no matching texture for his Belt in the game, so I would recommend the Merciless Belt because it matches the Color Scheme of Mograine's Belt, which is pink with a gold line on the inside.

And finally, we don't have his Tabard of the Scarlet Onslaught. Your best option is the regular Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade, which is boring, but what can you do? :/
