Is there a trick to the fight? I was in a group, and the cave kept closing, kicking us out and resetting Stalagnarok until the cave closed for good. We tried fighting him in the front of the cave and in the back, but the same results.

As of a hotfix from 12/20/2024, all citrines are available and are no longer timegated. Unfortunately, this guy is required for the Stormbringer'sCitrine and he likes to jump outside the quest area which makes the Bonus Objective disappear.

As of the time in this post, I have run this boss close to 15-ish times. I have determined that the bug is not currently linked to the charge attack nor is it linked to his positioning. The world event itself is simply bugged, and will just decide to disappear. The determining factor of when or why is likely linked to the coding of the world event itself, and I don't believe there's anything we as players can do about it.

I got the gem immediately when I rode away when the event started / the timer was off.
You don't even have to hit the boss or get aggro.

EDIT: While trying to get the second gem from the boss, I was standing at the entrance. Another group tried to taunt it towards the the wall, I taunted it back. This taunt ping-pong worked on first try.

For those having issues getting the citrines to drop from this guy, the issue seems to be that the radius for the event doesn't include all the cave that he spawns in. If he moves outside the radius, the event will "despawn" from the map, and killing him won't give any rewards. This issue is exacerbated by the fact that he has a charge mechanic, so even if he's tanked in an okay spot, he can still ruin things by charging in a bad direction and moves him outside of the radius. This means that getting the reward puts you at the mercy of not only of whoever is tanking, but anyone standing on the wrong side who might get targeted by his charge.

The other important thing with getting the citrines from him is that once you've gotten one of them to drop, you can buy more of it from Angorla in the main hub on the island, and all of the citrines are warbound before equipping. This means you shouldn't need to do the event one more than one character; once you've obtained each type of citrine dropped from him, you can buy as many additional ones for your alts as you want for only 50 Flame-Blessed Iron each.

there is a way around the bug, pull the boss out and reset it, then make sure to pull it again before the door close and kill it out of the door while the countdown is still on and you will get credit

To those still struggling, we have finally found a 100% succes rate way to bypass the bug and get both gems back to back. Here is what to do:

1. Do NOT be in a raid - you will not get proper credit and thus no gems. Party is fine.
2. Pull the boss then run outside to reset it and wait for the NEXT event to start.
3. Once the timer (2 minutes) for the next event starts and the goblins start chipping at the rock, have a Warlock, Hunter or other pet class pull the boss with their pets, kill him near the entrance while baiting the charges to the wall. Make sure the boss dies before the timer hits 0.
4. Congrats, finally grab your gems!

Stalagnarok Kill Method (Hunter Pet Strat)

Video Tutorial

1. Activate the Shuddering Hollows event.
2. Engage Stalagnarok and wait for the objective to fail (i.e. the World Quest disappears from the world map).
3. Have players with a taunt ability pull Stalagnarok out of the cave in order to reset him. Then leave him alone.
4. Wait 5 minutes to be able to activate the Shuddering Hollows event again.
5. A hunter player needs to go inside the rock (as shown in the video), target Stalagnarok, and pull him outside with their pet.
6. Kill him near the entrance, but be careful not to let him charge outside as this will cause him to reset again.
7. Enjoy your gem!

This is the only method that's worked for me so far. It requires a lot of cooperation from total strangers so it's not a consistent way to do it. We got lucky that most of the players around were Alliance so we could properly communicate the plan, but even then, one Horde player who was not aware of our plans repeatedly tried to re-engage the boss and ruin the strat.

EDIT: You don't actually need to be inside the rock when pulling the boss, and your pet doesn't need to be inside either. You can just type /tar Stalagnarok and then command your pet to attack.

EDIT 2: However, I would still recommend trying to glitch inside the rock because otherwise your pet may outrange you and despawn.

Just completed the "Bonus Objective" associated with this boss. The "Bonus Objective" disappeared and he bugged on us twice; third time we fought him slowly outside of the cave in the tunnel, just outside of the rock barrier. Someone then re-started the event, the wall closed back up, the "Bonus Objective" popped back up, and we downed him during the 2:30 minute timer for the cave opening, thus completing the "Bonus Objective".

It's a crappy way of doing it, but at least I finally got all my gems.

been at this a bit and the back of the room trick isn't working but I did just randomly get the storm bringer while waiting outside the cave after another failed attempt

edit: next pull back of the room left side in the corner worked. got both gems. on my hunter I cheetah + rocket boost to the corner blowing all big attacks to get him over there

Picked up three citrines today across 2 characters; unsure if they tried to fix it? Fourth attempt on another character failed. Three successes were fought in different parts of the cave, first was right at the base of the ramp, second was to the right of the base of the ramp, facing down into the cave. Last success was fought on the small 'island' where it spawns. In all cases, both success and fail it charged away from the tank but never up the ramp.

honestly wish people would just stop pulling the boss out of the cave & just let us kill it for the irons.
pretty sure all of the gems are alrdy sold by a vendor at the hub area for like 50 iron or something, so it just kinda seems pointless to jump through these hoops to just to save a few irons.

Bonus event must be up. You can kill it before excavation timer expires- so pull it out of the cave and down it. Much higher drop rate if you leave party, but we have seen it drop in a raid. That is all

The bug seems to be that the Bonus Objective is disappearing very quickly after the excavation ends- I've seen it be a few seconds or over a minute- so you do need a large enough group to down the boss before the excavation timer ends.

I think it is Blizzard's gift to hunters- the ONE time in the game where a Raid NEEDS their pets to taunt.

Out of 15 pulls, it reset and kicked us out of the cave on at least 9 of the attempts. On the 6 kills I've actually completed, I don't get any credit for completing the bonus objective.

I tried tanking him in the back corner. Tried it in the hallway. Gave up fighting the million pet taunts going off....nothing seems to work.

Really wish Blizz would fix this.

It seems to be stealth-fixed. I (and people around me) just got both gems in absolutely normal way. The event didn't disappear.
It was not working just yesterday.

Just solo'd this with my ilvl 573 Prot Pala. He kicked me all over the room. I had a couple of close calls, particularly when I ran out of mana and didn't understand why my heals weren't available. After a good 5+ minutes of getting stomped, I downed him. No bug issues, but every bone in my body is now dust.
