- Overview – Gnarlroot tills the soil with Shadowflame, spawning corrupted allies and creating [Shadow-Scorched Earth].
Upon reaching 100 energy, Gnarlroot casts [Doom Cultivation], absorbing energy from the ground with [Doom Roots]. Gnarlroot inflicts increasing damage to all players until his roots are destroyed, sending him into a state of [Uprooted Agony].

- Stage One: Garden of Despair
- Flaming Pestilence – Gnarlroot causes patches of earth to explode with Shadowflame, inflicting 471403 damage to players within the blast.
Some of these patches absorb the Shadowflame energy, forming dormant Tainted Treants and Tainted Lashers.
Tainted Flora
– Shadowflame from Gnarlroot's Flaming Pestilence seeps into the earth, sowing hostile vegetation.On Mythic difficulty, the creatures spawn in a dormant state, awakening when infused by [Shadow-Scorched Earth] or [Doom Cultivation].
On Heroic difficulty, the creatures spawn in a dormant state, awakening when infused by [Shadow-Scorched Earth] or [Doom Cultivation].
- Tainted Lasher
- Tainted Bloom – Upon awakening inflicts 29009 Shadowflame damage to all enemies.
- Shadow Spines – The lasher spits thorns at a player, inflicting 87028 Shadowflame damage. The thorns shred the target's armor, causing them to take 8% increased damage and bleed for 32636 Physical damage every 1 sec for 10 sec. This effect stacks.
- Vicious Thicket – Each activated lasher increases the haste and damage done of all other active lashers within 10 yards by 10%. This effect stacks.
Upon reaching 15 applications, the lasher becomes Overgrown.- Overgrown – The lasher is germinated by nearby allies, making it immune to interrupts and crowd controlling effects.

Blazing Pollen
– The Tainted Treant releases blazing pollen, inflicting 108785 Fire damage to the five closest players and disorienting them for 3 sec.
- Controlled Burn – Gnarlroot marks players with a Shadowflame plague, inflicting 72590 Shadowflame damage to players within 20 yards of their location every 1 sec for 6 sec.
Upon expiration, the affliction creates a patch of Shadow-Scorched Earth.- Shadow-Scorched Earth – The flaming soil inflicts 145047 Shadowflame damage every 1 sec to players standing on it.
- Tortured Scream
– Gnarlroot bellows in agony, inflicting 116038 Shadowflame damage to all players and an additional 58019 Shadowflame damage every 1 sec for 10 sec.
- Shadowflame Cleave – Gnarlroot inflicts 580189 Shadowflame damage to players in a frontal cone.
- Dreadfire Barrage
– Gnarlroot shoots missiles at his current target over 2 sec, each inflicting 24 Physical damage and 14 Shadowflame damage.
Each impact also causes the target to take 24% increased Shadowflame damage for 34 sec. This effect stacks.
Stage Two: Agonizing Growth
- Doom Cultivation
– Gnarlroot grows Doom Roots that siphon power from earth, decreasing his damage taken by 99% and causing him pulse 6 Shadowflame damage every 5.2 sec.
Splintering Charcoal flies from Gnarlroot's body every 8 sec.
This ability corrupts the soil beneath Gnarlroot, awakening dormant creatures and creating Toxic Loam.
Destroying all Doom Roots afflicts Gnarlroot with Uprooted Agony.- Doom Roots – Roots burst forth from the doomed soil, inflicting 145047 Nature damage to players up to 3 yards and knocking them away.
- Splintering Charcoal
– Chunks of flaming charcoal fly from Gnarlroot, inflicting 5 Shadowflame damage to players within 5 yards of the impact locations, and making them Ember-Charred.
Each chunk of charcoal that does not hit a player erupts on contact with the ground, inflicting 15 Shadowflame damage to all players.- Ember-Charred – Shadowflame residue inflicts 1 Shadowflame damage every 1 sec. This effect stacks.
Touching a Doom Roots while afflicted ignites the root and removes one application of this effect.
- Searing Bramble – Flaming chunks of bramble fly off Gnarlroot's body, causing players to burst into flames after 3 sec. The blast inflicts 5.2 Shadowflame damage to players within 4 yards of their location.
Players become Ember-Charred by the blast.- Ember-Charred – Shadowflame residue inflicts 1 Shadowflame damage every 1 sec. This effect stacks.
Touching a Doom Roots while afflicted ignites the root and removes one application of this effect.
- Uprooted Agony
– Gnarlroot is immobilized by agony, increasing his damage taken by 100% and causing him to pulse 11 Shadowflame damage to all players every 1 sec for 20 sec.
Upon expiration, Gnarlroot gains an application of Rising Mania.- Rising Mania – The pain from Uprooted Agony sends Gnarlroot into a frenzy, causing him to inflict 10% increased damage. This effect stacks.
