Quartered Ancient Ring drop from Maw Mad Construct during Necrolord Assault.
To spawn this mob you have to loot any of other 3 Quartered Rings: Quartered Ancient Ring, Quartered Ancient Ring or Quartered Ancient Ring.
After that will appear a message on the chat: It is mine! Stay away filthy Maw Walker!, My priceless! and <Player>, wants my priceless!
Maw Mad Construct will spawn and walk around Perdition Hold.
If you lose the mob wait a few minutes for spawn.

Maw Mad Construct has different spawn points (he spawned at 33,71 for me) and at 27,57 for a friend and there could be others that aren't discovered.

The best strategy is to be standing in the middle of Perdition Hold, around 33, 62 and when you see him Yell something, use this macro or copy-paste this in chat to instantly target him and kill him ~ you have about a 10-30 second window before he disappears (For me anyway)

Doesn't have much health, saw it with around 70k. If many people are there trying to get the ring, it may die very quickly.

ON LIVE: July 12, 2021.

You need to collect four pieces (all called Quartered Ancient Ring) to make the Nilganihmaht's Stone Ring. This is ONLY available during the Necrolord Assault. The assault cycle is Night Fae, Venthyr, Kyrian, and then Necrolord.

Do NOT loot any of the Mawsworn Cache in Perdition Hold until you've completed step 1.

Step 1. Quartered Ancient Ring - ONLY obtain this at /way 35 69 Mawsworn Cache.
Step 2. Quartered Ancient Ring - Randomly spawns on the ground near Perdition Hold, found mine at /way 37 57 /way 41 62. They do despawn after a couple of minutes and move locations.
Step 3. Quartered Ancient Ring - Get the Putting A Plan Together, create the Overcharged Centurion and mount it. Now you can jump onto and around the walls of Perdition Hold and loot all the Mawsworn Cache in areas you normally would not be able to. There is a CHANCE the Mawsworn Cache will contain Defense Map - I had to swap onto my third character to obtain the Defense Map. This will give you the Clearing the Walls. THIS QUEST IS SHAREABLE - SO HELP PEOPLE OUT. You must complete the quest before the Necrolord Assault ends (you will have to loot it again if you miss it). Complete the quest and the item will be rewarded.
Step 4. Quartered Ancient Ring - In the middle of Perdition Hold, wait for the Maw Mad Construct. He will yell "<Character Name>, wants my priceless" or "You cannot have it". For me, he spawned at /way 31 65. Kill and loot it. There's an estimated 5-30 minute respawn.

Take the four pieces to /way 39 40. Use the Soulsteel Forge to combine the pieces. 1/5 rings for Nilganihmaht Control Ring.

So he spawned and then just ran around. If you don't kill him quickly enough he despawns. So if you don't have snare and you're doing it alone then you're probably $%^& out of luck.It's immune to fear too.

Spawned at about 31.67 and yelled 'You cannot have it!'. He then ran east and was heading into one of the rooms before I killed him. You can stun him. From where he spawned, 31.67, I was standing at about 29.61 and was still able to /tar him and put on a marker.

Very low health mob that despawns after ~30 seconds when they reach their destination so you got to be ready. Found 3 spots it spawns at where you can target it with a /tar Maw Mad macro. He will yell a message with your name when he spawns.

If you stand at here you can target it on the double bridge leading deeper into perditions hold, the bridge heading to the tower in the nothern part of perdition hold and you will stand right in front of the ramp down to the south part of perditions hold where i experienced it spawned the most out of about seven spawns.

This is an old macro I used to use for finding rares before I figured out, "Hey, you can just download a rare finder addon, ya big Paladin dummy." But it might work well as a one-off for things like this:

Just chill out by Draka at the start of the assault's final phase, and hit the button every once in a while. If your Maw Mad boy is up, it targets him, marks him with skull, and plays an obnoxious noise.

Saw him spawn and take off running a little distance away from me, tried to binding shot and freezing trap him so I could aimed shot him, he was immune to both and as an MM hunter wasn't able to do nearly enough damage to him while chasing him before he despawned :(

If you are in combat, he doesn't spawn.

I had him spawn numerous times while doing quests for the Necrolord assault, and then once I wanted to actually find him he didn't spawn. I was in combat the whole time (due to the pillars on top of the walls I think). I had to run all the way to the sanctuary hub to get out of combat, then once I got back to Perdition Hold he spawned instantly.

Spawned around 39,64 for me, ran down the hill then down into Woeful Cavern, despawns just next to the bottom of the ramp.
Runs faster than you can so quickly out of range for a destro lock (got him to 30% before he peaced out).
Can be stunned with shadowfury so assume other stuns will work.
Respawned after about 10mins

In addition to the macro listed here, you can also add this mob to SilverDragon (or NPC Scan...whatever your addon of choice). Its ID is 179601, so in the case of SilverDragon under the "Mobs" section go to the "Custom" tab and enter this number. It recognized the name for me.

Minor tip but hope it helps someone so you don't have to spam pound a macro.

I can confirm that, after missing him twice, I exited the game, logged back on and he instantly respawned! Might be a coincidence, but it worked for me!

To Boomkins who are still NF, this mob seems bugged. Went to burst him down with Convoke, nope! Didn't take any ability procs and was wasted. Had to chase him down when I realized he wasn't dead and finished him off normally.

Edit: I think the problem is that it never really enters combat with you as it runs away and prevents the procs.

Edit: 8/7/21. Still no luck on this. I ended up destroying the ring sections I had, and only got 1 out of a chest back. The other two are not findable/available with the quest to destroy the pylons either, and the Maw Construct didn't spawn once I looted the one section again. I even checked the topmost tower you can usually only get to with the centurion by using Borgeth's toy and disengage, had to wait 20 mins for toy reset as well, that was a good time to scan chat to see if the mad maw yelled, but nope!. Guess I'll wait another 2-3 weeks to see if Blizz ever puts that quest back into rotation.

This guy is not spawning for me today.

Two weeks ago I got all other pieces without even realizing what was happening during main quest - was just picking stuff up. I had him yell three times at least, but i didnt know what or who to look for.

Today, I've been waiting for whole assaults over two hour period. I've run around using a tar macro to spawn points, I've gotten all the other rings and pieces out of the bank and brought them back. I've turned in quests, wait at each stage. I've tried joining other people doing their quests and phased into their world. Exiting, out of combat, up on top, out to the edges of the area, and more.

Nothing. No spawn, no yells. Is this bugged?

I feel like it's bugged... Two necro assaults in a row now the guy just doesn't spawn for me. I tried running macro, tried doing it at different stages, tried just waiting and see if his line pops up in chat. Just nothing... Looks like unless you've done it during the very first necro assault you're not gonna see the mount sadly

Repeating what Echellon stated in an earlier comment, it seems like the quest Clearing the Walls quest needs to be available during an active Necrolord Assault for the Maw Mad Construct to spawn. Reposting for anyone who may be camping or farming it while the quest is not active.

I just killed the Maw Mad Construct today (October 12th).

The quests that were present for this assault are:

Putting A Plan Together
Dead On Their Feet - Dead on Their Feet
Get to the Point - Get to the Point
Here's an Axe, Get to Work! - Here's an Axe, Get to Work!

For specific quests being so hardly timegated there is sick amount of people waiting for this at the moment. Better way is to camp solo than in groups - 1 ape is enough for you not being able to tag it. GL

If you use the AddOn "RareScanner" go the the RareScanner Options (Interface->AddOns) and select "Custom NPCs". There type in the NPC ID 179601 into the field and then select Shadowlands, The Maw on the right menu and press "Okay".
Did this while waiting for the Maw Mad Construct to spawn and within a minute the AddOn alerted me to its appearance and by clicking the Addons popup I selected the construct, killed it and looted the ring.
If you aren't using the RareScanner AddOn yet, give it a try, it's amazing! <3

I found this by adding the rarescanner id as mentioned by Moosplauze and then jumped into the Centurion and waited on top of the wall at /way 29 65. The Mad Maw Construct shouts in your chat box and you can see his rarescanner marker from atop the tower. He does not stop to fight, even when you get a shot, off so you have to chase him. I found and killed him after I had completed the Necrolord Assault, so no quests need to be active, but I don't know if being in the Centurion was relevant. Hope this helps someone.

I had done clear the walls quest before but did not have mad construct spawn afterwards and it has been many assaults after that.
Today someone was kind enough to share the clear the walls quest again and after completing the quest ı went to approximate spawn spot

and waited a bit.
in 5 min it spawned but ı did not hear any yell nor it was red enemy I could only spot it because I was in the area and looking for it.
and finally got the last stone ring and my mount (and coincidentally no stable big enough achievement!)

also one note I DID NOT destroy the stone ring I have before redoing the clear the walls quest - the one you got from maw caches - or any other ı have but afterwards mad construct spawned anyway so you don't need to freshly pick up a new ring my guess is just do the clear the walls quest during the assult and wait.

This doesn't give a crap if you have looted anything in the last few minutes or if the area has others that need to loot etc. It only needs that you need to get the item and you haven't got the item yet. So the most relaxed way to do it is to be alone and not in a group at all and just scan for it.

Didn't know what he was, and dind't see anything on my map, so I came to Wowhead to see what's up.

Once I saw he was a rare, fast-running spawn, I quickly went back in-game. DESPAWNED.

Haven't seen him since.

Note that he's a "yellow" and he looks more like gollum than anything else in the area. He won't stop for you, he just keeps on running. You can slow him (shadow priest here with Mind Flay which slowed him just enough).

Wait for Necrolord Assault that has a quest Putting A Plan Together from Mikanikos and complete that quest, so you get a centurion you need for the next step
Use the centurion to jump on the walls of Perdition Hold with centurion's 3rd ability
Loot chests on the walls untill you loot an item Defense Map, you get a quest Clearing the Walls - complete that quest. If you didn't loot the map from any of the chests (yes, this can happen), you can try asking somebody to share the quest to you. If you somehow abandoned the quest, you acn also ask for sharing or maybe you could even try item restoration (didn't try it, just a thought).
Wait for Maw Mad Construct to spawn and kill him, I didn't have that amazing gear, only 229 ilvl and I was able to solo him no problems, only mobs around are annoying with fears

Can confirm, I just killed him today 11/12/2021 at spawnpoint /way 33.30 61.60 after he yelled and I was waiting on mural, and he looted the last ring ;)

For me, he spawned inside the door at 35,69, then ran NW down into the misty place with the jars in front of Shadeweaver Zeris (picking up adds), then out through the western gate, turning north and then doubling back, running back to the door he spawned from, where he despawned. I had to chase him along that path several times before someone else turned up and helped.

sat here waiting and he finally spawned but someone else killed him even though he mocked me by calling out my name in particular. based on where I saw the yell chat bubble show up on my screen I think it's best to actually sit at /way 31 65

I made an account just to post this - I finally got a kill after hanging around the area for 20-30 minutes despite the "Clearing the walls" quest not being available. It spawned 2 more times as I did the necrolord assault quest. Adding the mob to RareScanner also worked perfectly.
