I actually like how this mob was designed; basically you aggro them like a normal enemy but they don't really "attack" you, instead apply a small debuff that hits you for a very small amount of hp. Basically it will slowly kill you over a long period of time (maybe 10min?) while also following you everywhere nearby (I assume it resets if you move far way enough), like being pestered by a swarm of flies. The debuff, by the way, will not remove stealth either (it didn't on my rogue).

I don't know anything about hunters, but can they tame it? Would be funny to see just a ball of dots as a pet.

These things, once aggroed, will follow you across the entire map. I aggroed a swarm at the eastern part of Ember Ward and had it follow me all the way to Sinfall, making me think I had triggered some stuck-in-combat bug. Nope, waited and it was the swarm from a minute ago still in pursuit!

Reported as bug, hopefully not working as intended.

Sometimes, these little buggers can be difficult to loot, if you find that to be the case, just kite another of the mobs close enough to your kill zone and you can loot all at once. ;)

Being a swarm of insects and not a single entity, these mobs take far more damage from area of effect attacks.

These mobs are looted as part of the objective for A Rousing Aroma.

They can be difficult to see and/or loot, but they have a long range that they will follow the player. As long as auto-loot is on players can pull the swarm to an easier-to-loot mob (like a humanoid nearby) and then kill & loot both at once.

As far as seeing the swarms goes, that is probably the hardest part. I found it easiest to do /tar Ravenous Swarm and then right-click the NPC portrait to "Set Focus" so that I could see the mob on the mini-map.

I do not know why - but these bugs are relentless. They literally will follow you from one side of the map to the other.

Most mobs, like we all know, have a leash range.

These do not.

Every mob in the game will reset if you move far enough away that they are no longer rendered.

These do not.

I first figured this out when flying through some while herbing. I noticed after a few minutes - even being exceptionally high off the ground that I was in combat...
Since I was using the Sky Golem - it really didn't matter at the time so I just ignored it. Fast forward 10 minutes later, and I'm STILL stuck in combat. I was attempting to use a Flight Path to a different zone - but I couldn't leave Revendreth (without hearthing, but I didn't want to Hearth) due to this.

I started killing random mobs around me to see if that would fix it - after a few minutes, a Ravenous Swarm attacked me; but I was no where near the zone they spawn in.

So - I did some testing. I aggro'd as many swarms as I could - then flew all the way to the Northeastern Halls of Atonement - and then waited. About 9 minutes later, all of the swarms finally caught up to me.

The only time they have lost aggro and reset is when I phased into a specialized quest or world quest area.

This is very strange, and I doubt this is what Blizzard intended but, we may never know.
