Phase 1 and 2 are fairly easy, however phase 3 feels somewhat buggy. Chaotic Shadows was inconsistently targeting people, and sometimes completely avoiding the orbs discharged from it still triggered them. All of our wipes were entirely to this mechanic. Do your best to maximize your spreading out when it's about to go off because you'll need all the room you can get for when it actually has all 3 setting off simultaneously.

You have plenty of time to kill all of the adds in phase 3 before re-engaging him. If your group is stacked for AoE, you can group them together and use some cooldowns to burn everything down, but I personally recommend trying to save damage cooldowns for burning him in phase 3.

In-game he is classified as a Humanoid. I don't know if this is a bug or mistake, but I wouldn't quite consider him at all human like in anyway.

you can avoid getting hit by Chaotic Shadows

since the orbs spawn a couple of feet away from the player and not from the players body, you can actually avoid getting hit by just stacking on the guy that's about to release orbs.

We finally downed this boss after a few attempts, and here's how we did it.

Phase 1 we found quite easy, the main thing being to interrupt the Burning Blast to make life easier for the healer. We had plenty of time to move the green fel away from the others in the group, and if the person running away got the orbs too, all the better. We tried to make sure we had as many dots running as possible on on the boss before we jumped into the portal. If you have the orbs from Chaotic Shadows and jump into the portal, they'll just expire and not explode on your group. But you have to have started the journey to the next portal for this to count, it seems.

Phase 2, the Disintegrate does not hit you when standing at the back of the ship, so our healer would heal us up, get hots running and then we'd go half way, wait in the gap between the pillars for the next disintegrate beam (note, use the green dots on the floor which mark where the lightning boundaries are) and then move onto the boss. If you have lots of melee,like we did, and one of them got the orbs, we stacked and avoided damage that way. If more than one melee had orbs we usually dispelled one, giving the other time to position further away, giving others time to move. Again, we had dots running on the boss before we portalled.

Phase 3, we sent our rogue ahead who used their misdirect onto the tank, who followed behind dragging all the adds to the boss. Once all the adds are by the boss we blew every CD, with timewarp/bloodlust. Note for the tanks, use defensive CDs when the adds are grouped as the debuffs are nasty. We interrupted Stabilize Rift at the end of the cast as during this time the boss does nothing else from what we saw. The only change we had on the orbs was that the healer would dispell the tank due to debuffs as a prio above all others. The debuffs limit the tank movement speed, so we also used a MD on any spawning adds to help.

For us this fight was all about not getting in each other's way with orbs, keeping up a steady rotation of interrupts of the burning blast through all phases, as well as good DPS. Good luck and enjoy :)

It was my first time here today and I had just forgotten to look up the bosses before going there, so it was mostly my own mistake but I died during phase 2 because I couldn't see what was damaging me, and I also had no idea about the portal to phase 3. So I waited until the fight was over and then the healer couldn't reach me to rez me. Which sucked because I had to loot the boss for a quest so didn't want to miss out on that. I released to go back and see if I could still get loot. I came back in the round room and took a bit to get back to this boss and ofc everyone had left already. But I was still able to take the portal, loot the boss and turn in the quest right there.
Because of the long walk you should probably wait with releasing until the boss is dead or you might not get credit, not 100% sure how that works but better safe than sorry.

be careful when soloing, he likes to reset during the phase transitions. To kill him, wait 10 seconds after the portal to the next phase opens, then go in.

The most epic of Warcraft III Reign of Chaos music plays after you defeat him. I only wish World of Warcraft had adopted more tracks like this throughout its tenure, I suppose Classic & The Burning Crusade were as close as we got.

I think is worth to mention, this boss as of 9/19/2018 is still bugged, you will not be able to fight him once he ports to the last ship. But, if you burn him down before he teleports, you will be able to complete the dungeon with no issue, you just need to make sure to kill him before he teleports that last time.

If the encounter resets at the final ship, and slowing dps in phase 2 or waiting 10 seconds to take the portal don't fix it, try changing your camera angle so you face away from him as you take the final portal. None of the other suggestions worked for me, and after about a dozen tries, I did the camera angle change and that worked for me.

I was able to solve the restart problem in the last phase of the last form that occurred to me after doing everything that is discussed here, and it was JUMPING just when you are going to land on the ship, do not stop jumping and it worked, no matter the damage done

When farming this boss from BfA and onwards, be aware the boss is bugged atm and will despawn if you kill him too quickly and will have to restart the fight again.

The simple solution is to slow your dps, and keep this in mind if you're using a dot class; bring him down to 65% then stop dps and jump into the gateway after the boss, then bring him down to 33% and jump into the gateway after the boss, and finally kill the boss. (Not sure if this also bugs the boss but in the last jump seemed like the boss would despawn if you jumped into the gateway before the boss did, so just to be sure always make sure to be the last one to jump into the gateways)

Finally, after doing this multiple times, following everyone's guide on how to rectify the boss reset bug, I've managed to kill it!

HOW?

I watched a video in youtube where someone's soloing it. I followed it side by side while I was dpsing boss. Taking not of my boss' HP percentage and the video. When the video hit Phase 2, I go hit boss for Phase 2. When the video goes to Phase 3, I go Phase 3. I took note that the person in the video jump right into the portal to Phase 3 as soon as boss went in. I did the same, and to my surprise, it didn't reset!

Five tries in, have tried all of the suggestions in here, and still no luck. Switched to worse gear, will only hit him, wait, hit him, wait, etc.

Blizzard, for the love of Elune, make dungeons solo-able without bugs!

None of the earlier suggestions really worked for me.
What worked was to press the forward key (or left and right mouse keys simultaneously) as soon as landing the orb. No problems with full damage (365 BM Hunter) all the way.

In 8.1 soloing this guy, he kept resetting over and over on the 3rd phase, as soon as you land, the ship disappears.

Tried everything listed here: waiting time, slowing damage, moving the camera angle. Found all these positive responses and kept resetting to these previously working ideas.

Ended up waiting till he landed on the final ship and started casting Stabilize Rift, with the bar going down, then jumped in the portal and it worked.

tl;dr
Solo.
NE Shadow Priest, BfA. 120
I blasted him.
I ran into the portals just after he went.
I moved, and tried to attack when I was closing in on the ship.
No reset.

...just one more try...

..and finally it did not reset.

I tried all above suggestions but the resets just kept coming and coming.
I lost count on how many attempts I had.

So...just one more try...

I grabbed all meals, potions and items for a full boozt.
And then I went all out with blazing magic.
I did not hold back. At all.
I hit him with every magic this night elf priest was capable of.
He was below 50% when he fled through the first portal. Fresh dots where applied just when he was about to leave.
He was around 10% when he, panick stricken, ran through the second. Fresh dots!
When my bubble transport came close to the ship I tapped my instant spells, even though I was out of range, and moved and jumped like crazy. Don't know if it did the trick.
But it did not reset!
Mopped up the adds and the show was over for Mr. Watcher.

I think the key to preventing a reset is to let your toon completely land on the ship after pursuing the boss through the portal. If you try to move too fast, it will reset. Count to three after you land before you try to move...that should take care of the problem, at least it did for me.

As of today, I still had problems with the encounter resetting upon reaching phase 3. The solution for me was simply to burn the boss down in phase 2. So pop all your cooldowns in phase 2, burn down the boss and you should be good to go :) (Frost Mage with ilvl. 400)

It is possible to nuke him before he leaves the initial platform, to avoid stress about the resetting.

THIS RESET BUG has been a problem for months and months... i dare say since this began.

THE SOLUTION, because blizz, whom has lemmings answering tickets, will not investigate it well enough to fix, is...

AS the 2nd fight ENDS, stand around for 5 sec or so, to let the boss get a head start.
then run into the port to get you moving to the 3rd fight.

this is the fix for this reset bug.
bliz needs to put in a 5 sec stun on players to allow this to happen.

completion is now possible.

Now that people are going to be going back to this dungeon for Jenafur (as i just did, then decided i'd finish the dungeon after i got her) i figured i'd share my experience.
I'm not ranged so i couldn't burn Viz'aduum down in stage 2, he'd portal again before i could even reach him. I waited a few seconds for him to start casting the Stabilize spell then jumped into the portal. I activated my movement speed boost right before landing and made sure i was actively running toward him when i arrived on the platform, and that seemed to get me out of the way fast enough to prevent whatever was resetting it from triggering.
Still a pain... not sure why they haven't fixed this by now, especially since adding secret stuff as a reason for us to return to Karazhan again and witness how little they care about fixing bugs

I didn’t see anybody mention this for solo runs. I tried all the methods for getting phase three not to reset but nothing worked. I assumed you had to do each phase but what worked for me was just burning him down in phase one. I managed to kill him but because he was already leaving the first area I couldn’t loot him since he was hovering dead in the air. Not that it matters at this point but I did it with a 120 ilvl442 fire mage.

Just did it solo with my 59 caster druid, on mythic. Took me 5 attempts. The resetting bug is still there, I've tried several methods. Last time I DID NOT MOVE and did not pan the camera around. Followed the boss into the portal and took my hands off the mouse+keyboard completely. Somehow it worked, and I could complete the dungeon. It's one of the best dungeons EVER, with awesome design and great lore. I wish they had fixed it.

You must pick up the keys in the banquet room after killing the boss. They get you thru the locked doors to get to the upper bosses.

The boss is still bugged. After several resets I just killed him in phase one. Level 60, ilvl 199 fury warrior.
The boss spawned only one portal that took me to the last ship. Khadgar and Mediev were there. The portal to Dalaran on the Broken Isles spawned just fine.

Only I didn't want to leave just yet. I needed to continue the questline to get the teleport to Karazhan ring in the end.
So I used the port to graveyard method: create a private LFG group, left the party (don't delist the group), and after a minute I was teleported to the graveyard outside Karazhan.

This fight is still bugged. I tried around 7 times before I finally stumbled onto something that may have helped. As a mage, as I was flown to Phase 3, just as I landed I blinked forward and it suddenly worked.

Still bigged as of 9.1.5 . You either have to burst him down FAST in phase 1 (before he enters the first portal), or wait around 10s AFTER he entered to EACH to get yourself into them.

Overview – Upon reaching 66% and 33% health, Viz'aduum the Watcher will open a [Demonic Portal] to retreat to a nearby Legion Command Ship.
- Damage Dealers –
  During the initial phase, lead the [Fel Beam] away from your allies.
  Avoid taking damage from the Legion Command Ship's [Bombardment].
  While on a Legion Command Ship, avoid being knocked off by [Disintegrate].
  In the final phase, prevent [Stabilize Rift] from completing.

Viz'aduum the Watcher periodically commands the nearby legion ships to assault his enemies.

Command: Fel Beam – Viz'aduum the Watcher commands the Legion Command Ship to target an enemy with Fel Beam. Fel Beam inflicts 15 Fire damage every 0.5 sec and creates Fel Flames in its wake.
Command: Bombardment – Viz'aduum the Watcher orders the Legion Command Ship to fire a Bombardment. This effect shoots several missiles at the area for 5 sec, inflicting 30 Fire damage to all players within 6 yards of each impact.
Chaotic Shadows – Inflicts 1378 Shadow damage every 2 sec for 10 sec. When Chaotic Shadows is dispelled or expires it causes orbs of Explosive Shadows to form nearby and move away from the target.
- Explosive Shadows – Inflicts 4386 Shadow damage to enemies within 10 yards of the triggered Chaotic Shadows orb.

Burning Blast – Inflicts 5764 Fire damage and an additional 1378 Fire damage every 1 sec for 8 sec. This effect stacks.
Chaotic Shadows – Inflicts 1378 Shadow damage every 2 sec for 10 sec. When Chaotic Shadows is dispelled or expires it causes orbs of Explosive Shadows to form nearby and move away from the target.
On the Fel Beam Command Ship Chaotic Shadows hits two targets.
- Explosive Shadows – Inflicts 4386 Shadow damage to enemies within 10 yards of the triggered Chaotic Shadows orb.
Disintegrate – Inflicts 5012 Fire damage to all enemies in front of the caster, knocking the target back.

Stage Three: The Rift!

Viz'aduum the Watcher retreats to the nearby Bombardment Command Ship and calls in allies from the Rift above.

Stabilize Rift – Upon reaching the Command Ship Viz'aduum the Watcher will attempt to stabilize the Rift that is connected to distant Legion worlds. If he successfully stablizes the rift, reinforcements will stream through at a significantly increased rate.
Burning Blast – Inflicts 5764 Fire damage and an additional 1378 Fire damage every 1 sec for 8 sec. This effect stacks.
Chaotic Shadows – Inflicts 1378 Shadow damage every 2 sec for 10 sec. When Chaotic Shadows is dispelled or expires it causes orbs of Explosive Shadows to form nearby and move away from the target.
On the Bombardment Command Ship Chaotic Shadows hits three targets.
- Explosive Shadows – Inflicts 4386 Shadow damage to enemies within 10 yards of the triggered Chaotic Shadows orb.
Disintegrate – Inflicts 5012 Fire damage to all enemies in front of the caster, knocking the target back.
Felguard Sentry
- Blazing Hamstring – Inflicts Fire damage to the target and an additional 423 Fire damage every 2 sec for 8 sec, reducing the target's movement speed by 10%. This effect stacks.
