Interviews with Jeremy Feasel and Alex Afrasiabi
Wowhead Weekly had the opportunity for two interviews with Blizzard developers during BlizzCon -- Senior Game Designer Jeremy Feasel and
Creative Director Alex Afrasiabi
First, we sat down with World of Warcraft Senior Designer Jeremy Feasel:
Jeremy Feasel, who "does a little bit of everything" for World of Warcraft, gave us lots of insight into the new direction of exploration and reward in Warlords of Draenor.
What do you do for WoW as a Senior Game Designer?
"A little bit of everything"
Can you tell us a bit about the Warlords of Draenor staggered raid release schedule?
Somewhat similar to MOP but slightly different because we have more bosses than MSV in the first raid, as well as (rotating) world bosses that come out later.

Live Raid Recap
The live raid took place, not in Siege of Orgrimmar as many were expecting, but in the new Ogre raid, Highmaul. The world's top guild,
Method
, represented the Horde side, and the world's top Alliance guild,
Midwinter
, took them on facing a series of bosses from Highmaul. Method were the defending champions, following a victory against Midwinter in the 2013 Siege of Orgrimmar race.
The race itself saw these top guilds take on the four main bosses,
Imperator Mar'gok
,
Kargath Bladefist
,
Ko'ragh
, and
Twin Ogron
. The race itself was relatively uneventful, as these seasoned guilds dealt with the bosses with ease, although Ko'ragh caused some tension as Method lost a tank to his
Caustic Energy
. Thanks to the new Battle Res system, they were able to pick the tank, played by GM Sco, straight back up, but were down a DPS for some time until they had another res available. Midwinter started off ahead for the first boss, but their tank Sloot revealed that, while trying to sneak past trash with Shroud of Concealment, they accidentally aggroed more mobs, resulting in a slower trash clear than they would have liked.

Heroes of the Storm Friday Roundup
Heroes of the Storm will go into Closed Beta
on January 13th 2015!
New Heroes
A major part of the Heroes of the Storm news for Friday was the announcement of four new heroes, three of which were playable on the show floor. We played them all to get first impressions for you to enjoy!
Thrall
Thrall is a melee assassin. He carries over many thematic elements from his World of Warcraft heritage, such as Chain Lightning, and the Doomhammer.
He's a character who deals heavy damage at close quarters with his passive automatically dealing high additional damage when it reaches five stacks. He can also sustain a reasonable amount of damage, making him a really fun hero to do things like solo merc camps on.
He casts Chain Lightning, summons Frostwolves, and can cast Windfury on himself, empowering his basic attacks. One of his Ultimate abilities is Sundering, which gives him the option to use the Doomhammer to crack the ground in front of him.
Jaina
Jaina is another hero who has considerable nods to her Warcraft roots. She's a ranged assassin, dealing high damage from a distance. Her abilities will be very familiar to any frost mage -- Frostbolt, Blizzard, and the like. She also has a stacking buff, just like Thrall.
Jaina is a lot more squishy than her orcish cohort, and really needs to remain at range as much as possible in order not to suffer at the hands of melee heroes. She deals a lot of damage, and with caution can happily solo merc camps and the like. Her ultimate abilities are iconic mage manoeuvres -- a Water Elemental or Ring of Frost.

BlizzCon Fireside Chat Recap
At today's fireside chat we saw a discussion of players using skill to handle randomness, which ties in well with the many new random effects in the Goblins vs Gnomes cards. They then talked about why they chose to go with Goblins vs Gnomes for their first expansion, showed off the board, and some of the cards we'll be seeing in it. A lot of the cards play off or effect minions categorized as a "Mech", and even old cards like and are now Mech minions. The cards in the expansion will be purchasable just like normal card packs, and the cards can be crafted with the same Arcane Dust as current cards.
Spectator mode has also finally gotten a preview. You'll be able to jump in and spectate games of players in your friends list and view it from their perspective, and they'll be able to see that you're spectating. It will also have support for spectating multiple players at once so you can see both of their hands for games such as in tournaments.

Liveblog
Everyone on staff is a huge Warcraft fan--they've played old school Warcraft, lost days of their lives to World of Warcraft.
Warcraft has so many great characters and story arcs which made it hard to actually find a story of a suitable length for a movie.
Original movie was very Alliance-biased, put Orcs in a more negative light. It was important this time for them to show both heroes and the conflict.
Feels like a live action movie, the camera follows around from their perspective. The VFX for Orcs were hard to nail down, they needed them to be as genuine as humans. They used a lot of motion capture.
They built sets, locations.
They created a training session for people to become Orcs--actors had to learn how to become a 500lb creature, nuanced Orcs. Were they noble Orcs or aggressive ones?
They didn't want to do motion capture for Garona.
One of the actors--Robert Kazinsky--actually had over 500 days /played, Death's Demise, and more. He was in a top 100 World guild!
Took months of training to learn motion capture. The actors also had to learn how to walk differently, get more in touch with their Orc side.
