Mists of Pandaria: Jade Forest Quest Preview
The Jade Forest
has undergone an extensive revision since we first previewed it, to better demonstrate the Alliance and Horde conflict. This zone is the first zone players will reach upon questing in Pandaria. Unlike past expansions, there are not two options for starting zones.
Players will acquaint themselves with Pandaren culture, as well as the Jinyu and Hozen. The Alliance will trace Anduin Wrynn's disappearance, and both sides will have a tragic clash by the
Temple of the Jade Serpent
, a new 5-player dungeon. Players will also have to return to The Jade Forest at 90 to train with
Order of the Cloud Serpent
in order to ride Cloud Serpent mounts.
Of note: some of the early quests reward items that resemble Tier 9 raid gear, like
Barricade-Breaker Cudgel
.

Since we first previewed the zone, some changes have been made. Here's some screenshots from the new areas.

We ran through the
Temple of the Jade Serpent
today--it's a pretty quick instance but each wing is richly detailed. You can also buy all glyphs for from a vendor right inside the instance. All bosses dropped ilvl 425 loot, but they were reskins of 4.3 gear and didn't have real names yet, like

The instanced version of the
Temple of the Jade Serpent
looks practically identical to the outdoor quest version--except it's been corrupted by the Sha. The library and water wings are accessible, as is the central area where questgivers and monks trained formerly. After questing through The Jade Forest, it's intriguing to find out how the temple ended up in such a state.

We've also got screenshots of the initial Alliance and Horde questing hubs in The Jade Forest, as well as some of the Temple of the Jade Serpent!

Mists of Pandaria 2012 Press Event Official FAQ
Our massive Mists of Pandaria blog post
and
our exclusive interviews with Blizzard
have a lot more information, but this is the official FAQ that Blizzard gave all the press. This way you can browse through and see what Mists of Pandaria is all about--in their own words.
World of Warcraft®: Mists of Pandaria™
March 2012 Media Event FAQ
Q: What is
World of Warcraft®: Mists of Pandaria™
?
Escalating tensions between the Alliance and Horde have broken out into open warfare. The roar of cannons blacken the sky while naval engagements around the globe fill the seas with blood. As the clash of mortal armies spins the world into chaos, a continent -- once shielded by impenetrable mists -- suddenly manifests itself in the southern oceans. There’s no question that this resource-rich new land will be at the center of a global conflict. Will the Mists of Pandaria part to reveal Azeroth’s salvation? Or will this new battlefield become the flashpoint that pushes the Alliance and Horde over the brink into

Cataclysm Post Mortem -- Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street
As part of our World of Warcraft: Cataclysm post mortem series, we sat down with World of Warcraft Lead Systems Designer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street to talk about his thoughts on World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
Q. What were your main goals going into Cataclysm?
A: Westfall was a seven-year-old zone with seven-year-old trees and seven-year-old quests. It naturally felt old. It felt tired for players going back to level up an alt, and it wasn’t inspiring for new players coming to the game. We just felt like it was time to give all of those old 1-60 zones some attention again. Beyond that though, we wanted to update the classes at low level as well. The spell flow, by which we mean the level you get certain spells, just hadn’t aged well. You would get some very group-focused buffs at low level and some powerful leveling tools at high level, which would have made more sense reversed. There were some specs that just weren’t functional at low level before because they lacke

Cataclysm Post Mortem -- Dungeons and Raids with Scott “Daelo” Mercer
Soon we fly together again...
We received the following pics from Blizzard this morning, with this cryptic message: "Soon we fly together again..."
Any idea what it could mean? We're curious to know more about these mounts!
Cataclysm Post Mortem: Dungeons and Raids
As a part of our post mortem series on Cataclysm, we sat down with World of Warcraft Lead Encounter Designer Scott “Daelo” Mercer to hear his thoughts on Cataclysm dungeons and raids.
Q. What were your main goals going into Cataclysm?
We really wanted to make sure we were creating new challenges, strong mechanics, and cool creatures while staying true to the expansion and the themes we wanted to carry out. The three raid dungeons came out well and we had a lot of fun bringing the story of Nefarian and the Twilight’s Hammer to life. We were also able to add some dynamic mechanics in
Throne of the Four Winds
, which featured players moving across multiple platforms.

New Ghostcrawler Blog: Mists of Pandaria Stat Changes
Our recent talent calculator changes led to some players asking questions about how character and item stats were changing, because some spell and talent tooltips suggest that changes are coming. We compiled this list to attempt to explain more of what’s coming in Mists of Pandaria. First of all, please note that we actually aren’t making many stat changes compared to the ones we made in Cataclysm (“armor penetration -- gone!”). Second, the stuff below can get a little technical. If you’re not into the subtle nuance of gear itemization, then don’t worry about it -- you don’t need to be to enjoy the expansion -- but we know there are plenty of you who enjoy some nuts and bolts talk, so here we go.
Spell Resistance
Spell resistance is gone. There are no buffs that improve it and there shouldn’t be much, if any, spell resist gear left. We always thought the system was hard to understand and we weren’t getting much gameplay out of it. Now taking a step back, we can imagine how to develop a game where you’d want various forms of resist gear for certain situations and opponents. Resist gear could potentially be interesting, b

News Round Up: Dragon Soul Nerfs Continue and so do MoP Talent Explanations
Dragon Soul is receiving what will be the second of its zone wide nerfs, decreasing the damage dealt and health of its enemies by 10% from 5%.
There has been some retaliation from players, but it's always good to remember that the last thing Blizzard wants is another situation like the original Naxxaramas--it is their company goal now to have the majority of its playerbase experience the encounters and this is their method of doing it. Besides, it's not like it's a surprise now, is it?

News Round Up: Mists of Pandaria News Coming Soon, Bug Fixes, And More
We have a bunch of blue posts from throughout the week for you to read. It's been a busier week than normal, with Blizzard seemingly finally waking up and getting ready to show us the goods! With this week's earlier announcement that a press event scheduled for March, we can only hope February passes as quickly as possible, because I think we're all dying to hear more about those pandas.
And possibly their brews.
With all the recent posts turning focus back to Mists, what do you guys think--

Do you think we could be leveling this Fall in the new continent...or do you think it will be further off than that? Or hey, maybe sooner?

Patch 4.3.2 Will be Cataclysm's Last According to Dave Kosak
Dave Kosak, Blizzard's lead quest designer, gave a
solid interview with Videogamer.com
late last week. He highlighted 4.3's successes, failures, and also confirmed that there will be no extra content in the wings for Cataclysm--meaning anyone betting on a Ruby Sanctum styled encounter should stop while they're ahead.
In the interview, Kosak also touched on World of Warcraft's recent subscriber losses as well as Blizzard's overall feelings towards Cataclysm as an expansion. Although many have been disappointed with Cataclysm, he was quick to note the sheer level of content it brought to the world and how much of an epic undertaking that truly was for the World of Warcraft development team. Overhauling all those low level quests took massive amounts of time--and were desperately needed, whether players realize it or not.
While Cataclysm may not have been the highlight of WoW's timeline, it was a necessary one to prolong the life of Azeroth.
Hit the break for a transcript of the full interview and let us know your thoughts on both the interview and the expansion. Was Cataclysm a good expansion? Should there have been anot

Dev Watercooler - The Great Item Squish (or Not) of Pandaria
The item level and stat inflation on gear gets more and more pronounced between expansions--or even new patches. The devs wanted to touch upon this problem at BlizzCon, but ran out of time. In this Dev Watercooler, they address the problems related to stat budgets and propose several solutions. Nothing is set in stone, but the solutions are really interesting to analyze.
We've also got some minor changes to 4.3 PTR patch notes at the end of the post. Of particular note is that Tol Barad Veteran now requires 25 wins, down from 100, and Death Knight pets now properly inherit their master’s crit and spell penetration stats.

While there's been developer chats in the past, tonight's chat is quite special--it covers Mists of Pandaria mere days after all the BlizzCon 2011 announcements. I'll be transcribing the Q&A below, after some highlights.
Q&A Highlights
Separate player hubs for both Horde and Alliance on Pandaria--will encourage world PvP.
New cap for professions is 600, no plans to add a new professions. Pet battles will be fun alternative to powerleveling professions.
Unhappy with the implementation of Prime glyphs since they are no-brainers to choose--may be removed.
Pet battles will grant XP in the same way to gathering professions--a decent perk.
Cooking will remain a secondary skill, but there will be specializations.
Valor, conquest, profession, and faction vendors will be scattered around world to encourage travel.
Possibility of increasing conquest point caps by 10-15%, for extra rewards for world pvp.
New guild levels and perks in MoP.
Expect quest hubs that change faction/control like Baradin Hold in MoP.
Players can only queue for scenarios in specific areas--goal is not to have players waiting for queues in major cities only.
