Sci-Fi MMOs?
So I found an article on
Massively
a little while ago that talked about the dearth of good sci-fi MMOs on the market, and postulated some reasons why this might be. I love sci-fi, I was hooked on Star Wars at an early age (sorry Trekkies), and I've often wondered about the same thing—you can see the evidence of it in earlier blogs, like
this one
which refers to
EVE Online
. The article, if you're interested, is
here
.
Now there are a lot of interesting ideas posed in this article, some of which I agree with and some of which I don't. But what I really found interesting was the recently posted response on TechRadar,

Legendary Healing Mace Info on MMO-Champion
So
MMO-Champion
has put together a very detailed information page on the new healing legendary:
Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings
.
Unfortunately, we don't yet have the stats—but he's consolidated all the info we
do
have about the questline, about the hammer itself, and about what you need to do to get it—even a video showing the weapon animations. Go check out the information

Nordic Northrend
Let's do a quick time travel. Let's travel back to the hot summer and autumn months when Blizzard first started feeding us on Wrath of the Lich King news. News around the Vrykul and the Kvasir were one of the most commented topics, and the general opinion was "I love it, we are finally getting vikings in WoW!". I guess some people never liked it, but I have been a long-time fan of vikings, Norse gods and mythology, and the like. So seeing how much Northrend was influenced by the Nordic cultures and traditions made me one really happy panda. But it wasn't until a little over a month ago that I realize how much Nordic stuff is there actually in WoW.
With the upcoming release of Ulduar, we get even more references to the aforementioned cultures. I think it is about time I share my findings with you. I am not going to cover the different references in a great detail; just enough so you understand what is in the core of the idea. If you know more than what I have written, or if you have something interesting to share - fire at will, I think a lot of us here love learning new cool stuff!
So, shall we dwell in the frozen secrets of Nordic Northren

Bizarre Server Problems?
Now THESE are some weird server problems.
WoW Insider
has posted a story about the strange server troubles Blizzard seems to have been having tonight.
Apparently there are a lot of server crashes—this is nothing new. What IS new are the instances of duplicate NPCs all over major cities, and the reports of the letters "F U" appearing outside the Violet Hold.
Could this be the work of a hacker? Has someone finally managed to crack Blizzard's security? Or is it just a strange confluence of weird server errors?

April Fools'!
Ah,
April Fools' Day
—the official holiday of the Internet!
So some of you may have noticed that our
homepage
changed designs yesterday—perhaps to something a little...
familiar
. For those of you who haven't picked it up yet, the change isn't permanent. :)
We really thought that the line about "original graphics, created by our art team" might be too much—but that didn't stop over
200 people
from sending us emails! So naturally we thought we'd re-print a few of the highlights—anonymously, of course.

WoWInterface Exclusive: The WoW Addon Store
Our sister site,
WoWInterface
, has got some breaking news on the latest major change to Blizzard's Addon system: The Blizzard Addon Store.
This is a gutsy decision on Blizzard's part—especially because adopting this business plan will make sites like WoWInterface, Curse, and UI.Worldofwar.net entirely obsolete—WoWI has already announced plans to shut down.
I encourage everyone to read the
announcement
, and to post their thoughts and opinions.

ZAM Enters the MMO Industry with TMNT Online!
That's right, ladies and gentlemen—ZAM is getting into the gaming business. The ZAM Network has announced development of its first original title:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Online!
TMNTO gives the players the choice of a number of exciting classes, including the Ninja Rat, the Reporter, the Sports Vigilante, and (of course) the Ninja Turtle. In addition to this, though, TMNTO breaks new ground in the MMO industry by not only implementing voice recognition software that genuinely allows you to speak to the NPCs—It's
also
the first MMO in history to completely do away with the idea of experience points. Character upgrades are purchased with "Turtle Points", bought via microtransaction at the Turtle Store, and then activated by shouting "Cowabunga" into your microphone!
For the full details, as well as some awesome screenshots, check out the full press release on ZAM.com,

Sorry for the delay folks, this one took me a while to draw.

Without further ado, I give you

ZAM Interviews MDY Lawyer on Addon Policy
So our friends over at the ZAM.com news site have posted a very interesting interview—this time with a lady named Connie Mableson.
Connie is the lawyer who represented MDY (known to most of you as the company that created the infamous "Glider" program) in the legal action that took place between Blizzard and MDY. She also represented the very first business to try and make money off of the Internet, was the first lawyer to open a law office in a virtual world—in this case, Second Life. She's
also
an avid WoW player, and she has some very interesting theories about the motivating factors behind Blizzard's recent UI policy change.
Having read the article, I don't agree with the conclusions she's come to. But either way, it's interesting to see her opinion on a highly controversial topic.
Head on over to ZAM.com to
check it out!

Dear Wowhead... (Episode 8)
Long time no see, dear readers! Please forgive my absence at the writing desk, for I have been separated from my mailbox! Let us all dearly hope that no such inconvenience strikes us again.
Today we have a letter from a confused young man in Stormwind City. Shall we?
Dear Wowhead,
I am yet another addict, seeking your help - for the sake of both me and my beautiful wife, Elaine. I am a huge fan of your "Dear Wowhead" section, and have recently gathered my courage to write to you, seeing that you have already helped people like me -
Black Rosee
and
Feling
, being two examples.
It is more than embarrassing to say, but I am addicted to...cheese.
Yes, cheese, is that a problem?!
...I am sorry for my temper, but it took me almost quarter of an hour to compose this part of the letter, and that has been a painful cheese-less quarter of an hour. As I was, saying, I am addicted to cheese.

Raider Apprentice - Addons
You ever found desktop so full of icons that you almost need to use a search engine to find the folder you need? Or your desk/working place literally hidden by mountains of papers, hole-punchers, sticky notes, staplers, folders, binders, pens and other office tools? Well, things like that can happen in WoW too, and I am an unfortunate victim of Addon addiction.

March Mayhem on the Escapist
So in light of all the discussion there's been about loyalty to Blizzard lately, I thought I'd make you guys aware of an opportunity to prove that loyalty. :)
The Escapist

current
matchup is between
Blizzard

Relic Entertainment

So go poke around, show your support! The tournament index page is

What Class Do You Need? I Have One of Those!
I have a disease. My disease is terminal.
My disease is alts.
My first character was a rogue that I rolled shortly after Warcraft came out. He was, is and always will be my favorite. But then I rolled a warrior. Shortly after I rolled a druid. Then a mage showed up, and with the release of The Burning Crusade, came my shaman, who quickly became my "other" favorite, because to say "second" would suggest that I love him less than my rogue, which is untrue. Now here I am; I’ve got 3 80’s, several more in “striking range” (within 10 levels), and my warlock has begun his ascent from level one. I think there's something wrong with me.
But I’ve come to the conclusion after reading over a few profiles and seeing some other posts that I’m not the only one doing this, so I’m curious what motives others may have.

Battle.net Accounts!
So Blizzard appears to be moving in a more unified direction! Yesterday they announced the expansion of their Battle.net service. It looks like they're setting things up so that going forward you can log into WoW, Diablo III, Starcraft II, and all their upcoming betas with a single set of login information.
This is all well and good, of course, but what I'm
really
excited about is the ability to keep track of your CD Keys for
earlier
games, which will let you download and play games like Diablo II and Warcraft III on any computer. Anyone who's been a regular reader of this blog will know that this is an exciting prospect for me personally. Just be careful with your account information!
