Blood Death Knight Apex Talent Hotfixed to Reduce Damage Taken

Posted 2026/07/27 at 7:23 PM by Archimtiros

On Friday at about 12:30 p.m. PDT, we deployed this hotfix:

Fixed a bug that caused the Dance of Midnight Apex talent ranks 2 and 3 to incorrectly increase damage taken. They now decrease damage taken, as intended.

This will appear in our next hotfixes update.

How long was this bug in place? lmao.

Comment by Gearsz

insane to find this after season 1 is almost over... has this really been broken for months?

Apparently its been broken all season. At least according to the DK discord.

Did this bug only happen under certain conditions or was it just straight dmg increase always

I...What? I get that death knights are the most fragile tanks because they just heal it off so this could be missed in initial testing but the ENTIRE season?

Comment by Tyneic

Eh bdk hp is binary to begin with. The current design makes it tough for them to be a good high key tank.

Doubt this'll make a difference in their viability, but it's nice to see bugs being fixed after only one season instead of the usual expansion, if at all.

In fairness, Everything above 20 is completely bragging rights and trying to balance at that level is a fools gamble. I'd rather not have DK just lose all it's charm as a tank over that.

Since the apex talents were implemented.

Comment by Etamalgren

...didn't this happen with a DH tank talent too, where their tattoos were increasing magic damage taken instead of reducing it?

Comment by oralee

this 23 week (nearby a 1/2 year) bug fix ... is crazy ... professional at work ... insane!

Comment by StripedYukon

This game never truly will get out of beta testing, will it.

Comment by Silverdevilboy

One of these days they'll change how that modifier works - they've made this same mistake a few times, putting the wrong sign on the value.

When a tanks health and armor yoyos as much as a BDK, I don't think you notice a 3-6% dmg taken increase, the same way you would on any other tank

what's the bug making vdh insanely trash and worse than even bugged dk?

not sure but blizzard sure has not found a fix for it,nor do they care to.

Yikes. Maybe they need a bugfixer dev or something? Oh wait that would mean paying the cost of human labor. Blizzard hates that.

To be fair, a bug like that is actually quite difficult to catch in the first place. It's only a single symbol in a long list of code. And given how it is a damage increase in a situation in which you take a lot less damage because of the increased parry chance, it's not really noticable either. And with how much the blood shield fluctuates, it's really hard to pick out for players in the heat of the moment.

It's easy to go back through logs and figure out, that this hit for 200k did 224k, because you had 3 weapons out at that point, but you usually wouldn't check stuff like that, unless you are in that extreme binary territory of facing an attack that deals 92% of your max health and having exactly 3 weapons at once is actually what gets you killed, as even with 2 weapons you would survive the hit. And stuff like that usually only happens towards the very end of a season and has a very small margin to actually get noticed.

lol the old Elemental Shaman bug resurfaces at least this was found in one season not after years. There was an Elemental Shaman talent that was a three point talent that we all took that reduced damage taken years later someone actually noticed it was doing the opposite, seems strange to have the exact same thing happen on the same sort of talent again, seemingly someone forgot to put the minus in front of the number again lol.
