The Haranir are trash that should never have been added to the game.
I dislike this bit of new "lore", It makes it seem like all other races but the Haranir have evolved over the Millennium? While they themselves are this Chimeric Race that has all sorts of Mix/matched features that feel more akin to a Hybrid than it would be to a uniformed species, Somehow Uneffected by the world around them and the changes brought on by magic? I call Hogwash on the entire thing. That its The Haranir mistranslating their Legends, and then assuming themselves as the center of the story, rather than some distant offshoot.
tl;DR DEI slop, no.
The art team and the raid teams have been on fire. The writing team should be fired. Simple as.
The only way it would makes sense is if the 1st hypothesis was right, "Haranir are a step before Trolls to Elves". But hey it could also be that the writers didn't know anything about established lore and thought that it needed an answer to an already answered question...
that's not really how evolution works... but maybe Azeroth is different :P
I like tusks.
it doesnt make sense. until now everyone knew that elfs evolved from trolls. now suddenly they retcon everything and want us to ignore every lore about it from before, telling us there is this new species that was the real ancestor. since jailor slop they change whatever lore they want
So Blizzards new 'writers' seem to think it would be viable to solve hundreds/thousands of years of racial hatred by saying 'hey bro we were all monkeys once' lol how embarrassing
There is a reason the guy who shoehorned this race into the game is no longer with the company. It’s 7th grade fanfic tier writing. “Azeroth’s oldest living wardens” Totally isolationist. Absent from every single threat posed to Azeroth ever. We’re like totally secret dude. We’re like totally out there man.Their origin is like “their own interpretation man”. It’s not literally lore man.
ty for this detailed article
Too much World of Peacecraft here.I prefer the real World of Warcraft, where the Trolls would have started a battle with the Elves and Tyrande a fight with everyone else.
*puts on tinfoil hat because it is that serious to me* Please bear with me, I know dragons is not mentioned in the article but HEAR ME OUT.In War of the scaleborn the Aspects encounter humanoids that are very clearly described with Troll-like traits (ch5,p68). The common idea is that the Haranir are the step in between since they do have tusks of trolls HOWEVER they are smaller on both male and females indicating that the tusk size isn't sexual dimorphism like trolls, but it's actually a potential sign of the tusks becoming vestigial/unnecessary and the haranir had evolved to have smaller tusks, it would also align with my theory that trolls probably went underground due to the events of the War of the scaleborn and the sundering since both events resulted in some pretty heavy damage to their numbers and civilization.Going back to War of the Scaleborn, it should be noted that on both the primalist side and the aspects sides, none of them had seen mortals up until the trolls were encountered and then not long after the trolls started getting wiped it, it would not make sense for Haranir to leave underground and live in a more hostile environment let alone stay in one, it would make more sense for trolls to go underground. On top of that, their first sort of "sighting" was mount hyjal, considering not all trolls would flee underground it would make sense that those who stayed above ground became the highborne and those who went underground never evolved further. Mind you, if it wasn't important, the appearance of the mortals wouldn't have been described and if there was another race (haranir) then they would have also been described as they would also have been used in the scaleborn war. Hyjal is also near Wyrmrest Temple if you were to put the continents back together into the OG kalimdor, the dragons would have absolutely encountered Haranir and the Dragons would have been recorded by the Haranir but instead the Trolls have had more history with them than not."In truth, the idea that the Haranir are a progenitor to the elves and trolls may simply be their interpretation of the information gleaned from their paintings and legends. While they might look back at the ancestors that predated all of their races to be Haranir, they could have still been trolls in reality, or an entirely separate race."At the end of the day, all the elf and troll races are too prideful to accept they're related so they glamour and accessorize their own history either that or blizzard is disregarding their own novels and quests. Night elves also believed they came first in classic iirc. We BARELY get unbiased lore, the Chronicle books are confirmed to be told from a potentially biased viewpoint, assume any information told to us by complete stranger npcs is potentially a concrete brick painted to look like cake.
I am happy with current wow from a storytelling perspective. It’s been quite enjoyable since I came back for Dragonflight
I thought this was obvious to everyone since Haranir were revealed?
