The problem is that they are too easy and boring. The best way to do them is to fly around for 5-7 minutes clicking traps before you locate the target.I mean, could be worse, it could be boring and time-consuming and instead of boring and fast.
It feels entirely like a barebones foundation that could have been a lot better if it was closer to WB's Nemesis systemunfortunately since WB also patented anything similar to said system we are stuck with poor imitations like Prey devoid of any depth or replayability
I'm not a fan of the fact that you aren't allowed to afk in the zones, the affixes could at least be programmed to work while your character is in motion/combat
I love prey personally and i do like most of the stuff as like a side passive thing to do in the zone, however because of this it does make the stacking damage taken increase bad because then it becomes a rush to do it, as well as spamming traps being the fastest way to get it done. I do like the ambushes but not super thematic to a prey seems more like a spy vs spy thing, but i enjoy them quite a bit. I think if the prey targets were voiced they would be a lot more uumph to them as enemies. The fact they arent voiced brings a bit out of their characters for who ur hunting.
I wish they just built on the legion remix's heroic world mode. It was a lot more promising.
Seconding what Zamfix said, but also adding that Blizzard lied about these. They advertised it as if it were a world difficulty, similar to the Legion remix stuff. It just ended up being a crappy minigame, if even that. I was so hyped for a new outdoor activity that sounded like I'd have random battles with bosses and challenges, not some screeching elf begging me to give him a quick crack fix by killing a critter or a stupid throwaway NPC that fixates you (screw hunters, right?). Prey was so insanely disappointing, and they never even attempted to change or improve it throughout all of beta. I want the achievement mount, but the RNG is god awful and I don't have the patience to spam 5-7 minute hunts for hours a day for a chance. I'll keep doing them until I get my gold mount, but once that's done? That stupid elf can kiss my As...talor.
Delete affixes, that alone will make them more fun.
I did kind of expect some variety on the affixes. Maybe interesting for the first week or so, but it's got stagnant fast. Personally, and I suspect I'm not alone, a lot of the trap-farming and such is just to get it over and done with as quickly as possible. I don't mind the challenge level overall(or lack thereof, if you prefer) - but it's just not quite living up to the interesting system that initial impressions made. (And apologies to the fans, but I've no time for Astalor himself. (Nor Sire, for that matter..). The Prey for Silence addon has kept me sane, muting him in his entirety. "Objectively wrong" I know, but..)
its repetitive boring and another version of delves that isn't really fun just my opinion don't cry I actually like retail but this wasn't the best addition ^^
I found Prey to be really compelling right after hitting 90 (rewards and challenge were great for a fresh 90) but now that I outgear it and the rewards aren't upgrades anymore, I haven't found myself doing any in ~3 weeks now.
Just scrap this unnecessary system
I think the disconnect from the story is where it's falling most flat for me. The other issues remain issues, of course, but I have no idea why we care about our targets at all or why they're even aware of us coming after them.Without a motivation beyond "because the guy told me to and I want loot," it's just another ten minute mechanic to play out until I cap for the week and then set aside. I don't mind having more avenues for crests and gear, but if you want me to actually enjoy them, they need to have something going for them. Aside from Astalor's voice acting being ridiculous, Prey doesn't.
His voice actor's performance at his job of voicing Astalor is just *chef's kiss*A definite fan-favorite NPC in Midnight. As for the Prey system, it's... a letdown. Hah.
There's no incentive to do anything harder than normal difficulty when you don't need Champion track gear now that the 3 nightmare hunts weekly no longer gives uncapped hero crests.I haven't done anything harder than normal since they made that change, and haven't done more beyond the 4 for the 4k rep a week.Nightmare hunts are also EXTREMELY unfriendly to real life procing and you having to AFK in the zone you are doing the hunt in, as the clone interrupt and the killing something modifiers can happen out of combat, unlike the circles on the ground. The modifiers aren't hard to deal with, just annoying.
For easy AFK in a Nightmare Prey zone, switch to Steady Flight and hover in the air. This way, the affixes will never trigger.
Its the start of something that can be really good. I hope blizzard doesn’t abandon the system
from the very first quest I decided that this system sucks for one simple reason it brings the worst part of pvp (getting ganked) into pve and it feels terrible. I really wish they would have done heroic world tier instead. Also the name of the system is very misleading, it suggests that you are the hunter searching for your prey when the mechanics are very different from that. It really should have been going to the sites of the different crimes that each target has committed searching for clues and following tracks to a hideout to confront your prey. I don't care how good the rewards are I refuse to participate in this system.
Solo content where you're punished for going AFK? Great idea, Blizzard.
