No Raid Renown in Midnight Season 1: Wowhead Exclusive Interview

We don't have a renown this time. You should be able to approach raids however often you like and whenever you want to. Blizzard has provided Wowhead with a statement that confirms scheduled raid buffs are returning. The below statements have been left in the article below but are no longer accurate.Dylan Barker: I think we're basically just going to be keeping tabs on completion rates and what not over time. I think we're hoping for gear to grow people into it organically as much as is possible

Squishei: So there's no more "this is the week where we're getting 3% more damage and healing"?

I’ll eat a shoe if mythic raiding is a little easier and the tuning is on point. Also, if there are timely nerfs when needed it.Comment by JulienWAThe only thing I hated about Raid Renown was that there was no catch-up mechanic. IMO, that was all they needed to do to improve it with the only proviso, that it also not have so many damned levels. People who cleared it earlier were not given bonus levels or couldn't complete the renown track faster which was just silly.
I am concerned that a lot of more casual groups will be "stuck" on certain bosses a lot longer if there is no renown track anymore so I'm a bit cautious about being optimistic that this was a good change.Comment by Tornado20This means they're planning a fated season at the end of the expac for raid portals.Comment by MrAnime86They've reinvented the wheel so many times by now.. My guild uses the raid renowns as a "stopping point" for attendance requirements in our AOTC guild. Without an additional incentive, I fear that people will just start dropping off after the first AOTC clear.Comment by Spanky2kDamn, it was such a nice feature that I was sure it would end up being evergreen. I was counting on the raid skips that came with this. Not having to waste time clearing normal several weeks in a row just to unlock a skip to the end boss with useful trinkets/omni tokens was so nice. It was a fun little thing to earn extra tmogs and mounts.Comment by PresusHonestly I don't get why they would remove the Raid Renown, Buffs were nice, Collectables were nice, Portal was nice, felt like a good Incentive. I feel like the Catch-Up could have been done similarly to other previous Renown Buffs (like back in SL) where you just get full levels for Boss Kills if you're behind. If everyone just gets to have it, there's no point tying it to a bar you "fill" other than to make you feel good about seeing the number go up. Blizz is right, if the raid needs to be nerfed then it should be nerfed for everyone at the same time instead of some weird per-user timegating system. If there's a portal, it should be for everyone. If there's cosmetics, you should get them from the raid itself. Putting stuff on a renown track that then has a catch-up mechanic is just a psychological trick, and it's actually refreshing to see Blizzard do less of that for once.Comment by WolfaelanI really enjoyed the thematic cosmetics we earned through these, it's disappointing to see we aren't getting more for S1. Maybe they'll change their mind in following seasons, but I was looking forward to the themed pets/mounts/titles in regards to these.

I actually liked the raid renown system in Undermine and Manaforge. It legitimately one of the main reasons I came back to the raids again and again. I enjoyed the structured way of unlocking progress, mascots, mounts, transmogs, additional rewards and the portal at the end.

I can see how the thing about unlocking bonus health/damage/healing maybe wasn't the best idea, but then... just don't do those again, and keep the rewards cosmetic.Comment by GodsFaithWWWWWComment by RaileryI really loved the renown system for raids.
