You should be able to click the person to see a detailed damage brake down, as It's nice to be able to quickly see combat details without having to go to an external source.
Sometimes it's just nice to know if I just got unlucky or lucky with procs / crits, or if my damage was simply low because I fumbled it.

Although the meter itself is still non-functional, this gives us some reassurance that the developers are working to add important features to the tool before it goes live.
