Good aff changes, this has me excited to play aff again!
The smart application of agony SHOULD be an easy fix, they can just copy twin moons which is smart already.
But I too am worried about nameplates. Dot classes NEED ways to track dots on multiple targets and I fear Blizz doesn't have enough time to develop their own internal plates with all the other changes they've taken on in such a short time. Especially since they've laid off so many employees in recent years.

Unstable Affliction is limited to 5 copies being active on a target at a time.

They removed the maximum stack count on UA last week.

Sounds pretty good-- what aff is losing and what its gaining (back). SoC just FEELS like it should be the go-to for aoe and I'm glad its taking more of a role. And bye-bye malefic whatever, you won't be missed.

Very concerned about tracking. I hope we get some beta testing soon for ui stuff. As in ASAP!

I quit WoW the first time they turned Aff into this abomination due to the incredible pain points that having UA as a main spender bring into the table and I will do so again.

The damage profile aff will bring to the table is NOT a desirable one, our spec is already one of the bottom 3 least played and it will actually get even worse if we're not massively overtuned. If you're any good at playing affliction this should be as clear as day to you. I really do not understand why the echo chamber that is the UA spender fanboy club keep parroting about how bad MR is for the health of the spec but fail to realize just how bad the damage profile we will have moving into Midnight will be...

Kalamazi prob wrote this over a week ago because he made a video as soon they did the change

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Thanks, Green Jesus Lord. Finally, my main spec is back to its prime gameplay. I hated MR with all my soul for years; it's finally good to see not just Affliction going back to its prime, but also getting some love with an AoE gameplay upgrade.

These changes introduce a weakness that the malefic rapture version of aff didnt have. The fact that you now need like 20 seconds or something to get your full damage on a new target. Apply all the the dots / debuffs and then instead of your spender doing instant damage you need 16 seconds for it to get full value. Thats definitely not going to be fun when a newly spawned add needs to die quickly.

I dont think the loss of functionality is worth it for a reason that is basically ''Malefic rapture is not a dot'' even when rapture has everything to do with dots. Probably too late to reverse course now though so whatever, will see how it goes. Maybe we should change seed of corruption too so it doesnt deal instant damage but applies an aoe 16 seconds dot. Will be more in line with the vibes of affliction then right? Meh

I'd like to see Soul Flame make a come back.

Something about a lot of mobs erupting simultaneously just had such a unique sound to it. Something like a WWWFFFFOOOO. Close can be done with Fire and Brimstone, but nothing like that Soul Flame.

Agree, people saying MR was not in line with spec, well have fun pressing seed on repeat without any relevance to dots in aoe.

Not here to defend Malefic Rupture, but let’s be clear, this isn’t the win people think it is. History will repeat itself, Unstable Affliction will be nerfed into irrelevance as the expansion unfolds, and Affliction’s multi target/AoE ramping up will spiral into an even bigger mess than it already is. (this is a W for those who hate Haunt though, you'll understand why soon enough)

Without a major rework, there's no escaping this fate. Enjoy your single-target spotlight while it lasts (assuming tuning even allows it to shine in Season One). As for Mythic+, brace yourself to swap specs outside very, VERY high keys. Sadly, this iteration instead of fixing the (many) issues the spec already had, only seems to worsen most of them, with the added bonus of making the intern in charge of Affliction miserable once they realize the mess they're getting into.

Credit, where credit is due, at least for boss fights, this gameplay loop looks way more fun than TWW's iteration, I'm predicting a big rework in the middle of season 2 though.

edits: formatting, typos.

Not liking the Dreadlord theme much, but I'll take it if it means getting rid of Malefic Rapture! xD

Comment by AkumaThor

damn haunt is still here? its so boring 6 expansion with it..... you need to just remove it and create something new and fun.

Comment by FORSAKENPALADIN

Oooof looks like I'll have to alt Lock this time around... love the dots.

Is Oblivion still around, or something like it? I like the big drain effect, both in visuals and damage.

Comment by brownie961

I mean, they already have their own plates which do track dots pretty well on alpha, aswell as cues for pandemic windows.

Comment by Corpselance

If you get capped on shards, just dump them with Seed of Corruption, no?

There’s the door. Bye

How can warlocks summon Dreadlords if they are not actually demons but rather the creations of Denathrius in the Shadowlands and- okey no, I don't ^&*!ing care. Yay Dreadlords!

As someone who mains aff, I definitely hear that there are issues with both Unstable Affliction and Malefic Rapture. And I don't even hate Malefic Rapture, truth be told... BUT... the problem with aff rn is that the rotation and damage windows are very particular and unforgiving to a Malefic Rapture playstyle. Have to dodge a circle or do a mechanic during your rapture window? There goes your dps. You feel it, and it feels bad to have the flow interrupted.

Now mind you, I do think pruning Vile Taint, Phantom Singularity, and Shadow's Embrace (as well as the revamped Soul Rot > Dark Harvest) help a lot to address that, but what I've seen so far I believe is going to give aff a better and more consistent dps profile instead of the unhealthy burst/"peaks and valleys" playstyle that Malefic Rapture is promoting. Time will tell, but I think this new talent tree is definitely a move in the right direction.

A lot of DPS specs have to choose between single target and multi target damage. It’s not beyond Blizzard’s capabilities to create two paths for affliciton, one that focuses on longer fights and one that helps them on shorter fights. For example a talent that frontloaded some do Unstable Affliction’s damage

ah we need some more damage on affli on pve
