The game will never be as popular as it could be as long as the devs refuse to release seasonal content on the Eternal Realm. They’re locking themselves out of a huge segment of the playerbase who simply don’t want to start over from scratch every few months but would otherwise still play the game if they had something to do on the Eternal Realm. It’s tragic.

I played this game since launch. It's boring, grindy, same bosses, temporary content that disappears, etc. The Berserk event was dogwater and baited me really hard. I am extremely annoyed and sad with this game and I literally cried when I realized Diablo isn't where it should be.

Take caution with my warning. Don't waste too much time during each season. It's just tragic that the D4 team doesn't listen to us.

Eternal players taking 300 hours to realize there is no end game doesn't even begin to address the issues Diablo 4 has.

Diablo 3 was popular and had seasonal realms. Your point is invalid. You want free stuff every season without doing anything.

It seems that two views are here, eternal and seasonal. FYI, plenty of players like both versions and stick to them for their own reasons. My brother loves seasons, different stuff but after a few days, a week or two at most it is all the same as the previous season he says. I like eternal, I can't understand why anyone would ever start from scratch all the time, that is boring to me, but that is the gist of both types of game play.

Blizzard has a huge executive department pushing the devs and their managers make money, the devs and their support teams are trying hard to fix bugs, and create content that is attractive and enjoyable for more than 12 hours. I would think that it will take time for Diablo 4 to really get its chops, and my solution, maybe yours as well, is to visit the game 3 - 4 times a month, see if anything is different, otherwise go do something else. For me, lots to do in the real world and their are other games to entertain ones imagination.

I'm not sure there's actually a setup for this type of game where you don't "run out of content" within a fraction of the time given to a season if you put your mind to it. Player numbers for ARPGs always spike when new content drops and "craters" after a couple weeks. But because these games are largely self-sustained and rarely rely on other players to maximize your own enjoyment it's like a core strength as to why I keep coming back to Diablo and other games in the genre. Because I don't have abundant game time anymore and also enjoy other games, being able to either stretch a character for a full season's duration with shorter sessions or if I feel like it "blast" through the whole process in a week or two.

I'm curious why D4 in particular gets raked through the coals for it this much when this has been the ebb and flow of the whole genre since Diablo 2.

And it could have been even more popular, what’s your point? Also I don’t even know where to begin with the “free stuff” comment. Why should new content force you to start from scratch every time? Do other games make you level new characters every time they release new content? It’s ridiculous!

Read "Play Nice", you'll understand a lot more of what's happening with the company and where it is going.

The biggest problem for Diablo 4 is that everyone wants to compare it to the previous Diablo games. There's room for improvement, and it would be nice if Blizzard actually listened to what many are asking for—namely, more solid quest lines in the areas that already exist. But instead, they prefer to turn a blind eye and continue with expansions like they do in WoW. Blizzard has some fantastic universes, but they’d rather expand and make their games appeal to everyone, even if it means sacrificing content. Diablo 4 will probably end up like WoW: a good game with terrible content.
