How to Summon Gahz'ranka & Obtain the Tome of Polymorph: Turtle - Classic Anniversary

There is a secret boss in the Zul'Gurub raid, and it requires a special Fishing lure to summon. This boss,
Gahz'ranka
, also has some very unique loot drops!
Gahz'ranka Strategy Guide
To summon Gahz'ranka, you first need to get the right items. To the south of the temple where
High Priestess Arlokk
resides, you will find a ramp to the riverbank. By following the ramp, you will find an abandoned camp with some overturned jars and chairs that can be interacted with (the area is named Pagle's Pointe). In one of those jars, you can find
Nat's Measuring Tape
, which starts the quest
Nat's Measuring Tape
. This quest simply requires you to return the measuring tape to
Nat Pagle
, who can be found fishing in the waters of
Dustwallow Marsh
(/way 58.4 60.0). After turning in the Nat's Measuring Tape quest, Nat Pagle will now sell
Mudskunk Lure
for .
Purchase a
Mudskunk Lure
from Nat Pagle and head back to Zul'Gurub. Along the river inside the raid instance, you will find special pools of fish,
Muddy Churning Waters
. Fish in them until you loot 5
Zulian Mudskunk
.
Please note:
While it's possible to catch some fish in Zul'Gurub with a Fishing skill of 300, a lot of fish will get away at that level. To not miss any casts, you will need a skill of at least 425, which is obtainable by using
Big Iron Fishing Pole
(or
Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000
if you're Horde),
Aquadynamic Fish Attractor
, and either
Lucky Fishing Hat
or
Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots
.
Once you have the Mudskunk Lure and the 5 Zulian Mudskunks, head back to Pagle's Pointe, where you found Nat's Measuring Tape. Using the Mudskunk Lure in the water by the camp will invoke Gahz'ranka.
Gahz'ranka
itself is a fairly easy encounter, but has some very interesting (and fishing-inspired) loot! Most notable is the
Tome of Polymorph: Turtle
for Mages, but the boss also drops
Nat Pagle's Fish Terminator
,
Nat Pagle's Broken Reel
,
Lizardscale Eyepatch
, and
Tigule's Harpoon
.
