I've had this happen to my account as well -- all I've done today is open my great vault. Should I report this as a bug? I have no idea what the best course of action is here, but I'm avoiding completing the renown reward quests just to be safe.

It's not random, it just gives you 17.5k rep from logging into another character. And the reputation is account-wide. There is no chance anyone's getting banned for this, but it will 100% either be rolled back or patched so that everyone just gets rank 20 automatically.
This happened on TWW full launch (after the 3 days early access) and still not patched lol
Doubt they'll ban for it. The damage/heal buff is easy too accidentally increase, so no banning for that, and almost everything else (mounts, titles, raid teleport) can and probably will be rolled back.They might not roll back spent Counterfeit Dealer's Chip, but that's entirely cosmetic and doesn't technically give anything you can't already get.
Bro this patch added nothing but broke everything.
