I still have Dartol's Rod of Transformation Dartol's Rod of Transformation on retail on my Shaman. I don't have the quest as you where able to abound the quest back then but still have the rod. I also use to have it on my druid but faction change meant it was lost and yes I was aware that would happen at the time. I suspect there are a few of who still have it in retail.
I remember back in vanilla a guildmate of mine didn't get the Carrot on a Stick but picked the other item. We were on a PVP realm. We never let him live it down.
The most important thing about Skull of Impending Doom is that dying from that dot does not cause durability loss. And since you can change your offhand infight this item saved quite a bunch of gold for my char in vanilla while raid progressing.
Honestly the one item I got rid of and I shouldn't have in 2019 is Spirit of Aquementas off-hand. I had no idea it was BIS for like all phase 1 for any caster. I think I picked the other rewards because it's a sword and was selling for more.
Don't forget The Chained Essence of Erenikus—the best for most classes to keep a rogue from stealthing for 45 seconds.
