The devs are way too arrogant to entertain player ideas.
They should try this for a season, they need to not be afraid to go all out. Don't hold back, people understand more if you nerf game breaking things than being afraid to over juice some powers. This is what seasons are about, the beginning is about breaking the game, after halfway through only the hardcores are always left and that is when things are supposed to get tweaked correctly.
Imagine modern Diablo devs adding charms, runes, and gear with more than four affixes into the game. Items and builds with real itemization and diversity, how fun would that be? Unfortunately Modern Blizzard doesn’t think their audience can handle systems deeper than just a number becoming higher.
I get we're all nostalgic for runewords from D2, but like, we all realise the system actually sucks right?
Oh for the love of all that is hellish, please do *not* bring Rune Words into D4. Rune Words are much of what homogenized D2's itemization, and it isn't that the *concept* is the issue, but that they've demonstrated that balancing rune words tends to be nightmarish. The ones worth going for become effectively what uniques are in D4, and the ones that aren't basically just cause item bloat. In order to make these work without such hiccups, the impact needs to be just high enough to want to use, but just low enough that you don't want to worry about replacing them....which is what Malignant Hearts are today. In practice, Malignant Hearts are one word rune words that are closer in balance, on average, than D2 Rune Words ever were, and were still problematic to the S1 design. If this is a direction the devs go with, this needs to be something that shows up in ONE season for data, and a SECOND season to see if they can actually fix the design issues of rune words before they ever land in the base.

They still can't get the core game right...lets calm-down with new tech.
