Uber Uniques Re-Enabled - Can Now Drop From All Helltide Chests

Blizzard

HOTFIX 2 - JULY 7, 2023 - 1.0.4

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where Uber Unique items had an unintended higher chance to drop from Helltide Chests.

Developer Note: With the above change, we have re-enabled Uber Unique drops in Diablo IV. In total we have discovered that only 142 accounts obtained an Uber Unique between the launch of 1.0.4 and when we disabled Uber Unique items from the game on the evening of July 6th. We do not plan on removing these items from the accounts. In the future, we may need to take action to maintain fairness within the game when a bug or exploit impacts the gameplay of others.

Gameplay Changes

Helltide Chests will now have the chance to drop any Unique and not be restricted to specific item slot limitations from any chest.

Developer Note: With the above change players will now be able to find Unique items from ALL Helltide Chests. Uber Unique items also have a chance to be found from all chests.

People are gonna freak about the players being able to keep them but honestly who cares, these characters are going to be irrelevant in 2 weeks.

Blizzard acting like getting these on an Eternal Realm is actually meaningful lol

It absolutely was a bug, which is why they disabled them from dropping and fixed the bug before re-enabling them.

An unfair decision as expected. This is the way.

Good change.

Totally. I for one am really glad that we've gone back to those items just never dropping again. It's great game design when you have something that may take me until 2123 to loot these sick items, it helps to build suspense, like the Cubs winning the World Series was a lot better because it was over 100 years.

A botched hotfix does not make this a bug.

They input the wrong drop value. That's on them. Players behaved in an intended way: Farming the content that they are supposed to farm.

No. The problem was that 2 classes didn't have the unique item specific to certain slots and so the only thing left was the drop of the unique item that fit that slot. It was more of a blizzard oversight than a bug.

Also, in a game that has no trade for unique itens, the reaction was much greater than it should have been.

Excuse me, pardon? It's the definition of a bug, the drop chances were unintendedly exponentially increased and players *exploited* this to get them.

If it wasn't a bug then blizz wouldn't have disabled them dropping, nice bait.

back to having no way to target farm a specific unique slot
had to go through the entire list of necro uniques before I got the one I actually wanted

The forums are having a meltdown, calling for rollbacks, threatening to sue. They're hysterical and honestly embarrassing how childish they're acting.

Can we get individual news posts for all 142 of the accounts that got one of the uniques?

Comment by blupache

So wait.. the solution is to kill the ability to target farm slot specific uniques again?

Uh.. ok then...

Ok i digged out my old password to comment on this. This is absolutely appalling and extremely unjust towards majority of players. They LITERALY prefer 142 people who exploit early and exploit often over rest of fanbase knowing full well what friction and bad PR it will cause. Or they are so bad at PR not realizing the backlash. I dont know whats worse. And as for those crying "its not exploit they just clicked chest" there is precedence for this in real life. If ATM starts giving out large amounts of cash and people start lining up to milk it until they are stopped, or its fixed, they cant legally keep the money. The argument "i just used the ATM it gave me 10 000 dollars!" isnt valid. Blizzard once again proved they are disconnected from reality, just as they did with the hardcore race. The real reason its not rolled back is because majority of those accounts are from NA, rest of the world was asleep when it happend. And they wont hurt the muricans now will they?

How is playing the helltide as intended exploiting, exactly?

There was nothing you could do differently, you just played the game. Thats not an exploit. Exploits include doing weird #$%^ thats not normal for players. If a chest can be re-opened because it doesnt despawn and you sit there for an hour opening it, thats exploiting. Playing helltides and spending your currency on a chest one time, thats normal gameplay.

It was a bug, as it was an unintended change. That said, it wasn't like players were purposefully trying to exploit it because helltide chests are already one of the best ways to target specific legendary powers for min/maxing and just typically gameplay, which is probably what you're referencing.

Comment by Rubadubtubbs

An ATM is not somewhere you gamble. Could hardly call that precedence. Would be a stretch to call what they did exploiting but would definitely class it as an unintended bug. And no, I did not encounter this bug. It will be irrelevant once S1 starts, anyway.
