The Igneous Flowstone Trinket in Aberrus Raid - Drop Issues for Melee Agility Specs

Posted 2023/05/05 at 6:23 AM by Itamae

IntroductionIgneous FlowstoneWhat is Igneous Flowstone and Why is it Powerful?Igneous Flowstone

Once equipped, you always start with Igneous Low Tide, which causes your next harmful spell or ranged ability to grant a critical strike buff for 12 seconds. The critical strike bonus Igneous Fury, when averaged out, is slightly less than that of other trinkets at similar item level, such as Screaming Black Dragonscale or Ominous Chromatic Essence.

As soon as you gain the buff, you also gain a separate buff, Igneous Flood Tide which gains 1 stack per second until you have reached 30 stacks, at which point it becomes Igneous High Tide.

Once you have Igneous High Tide, your next harmful spell or ranged ability will cast Lava Wave at the target, dealing split damage amongst all nearby enemies. This damage proc is already competitive with other powerful damage trinkets such as Dragonfire Bomb Dispenser and Beacon to the Beyond

As soon as this occurs, you gain 30 stacks of Igneous Ebb Tide which deplete 1 stack per second until you are back at step 1.

buff another trinket to make it desirable for melee agi users. can we try and not have every single player ( pretty much ) need the same trinket again like with icon in vault.

Comment by Vedney

I like it when some items are intended for a specific role. They should just dumpster it for melee.

Comment by Profien

As a Surv main, this will be hilariously easy to get. Feral Druids should be fairly easy to get it too.

Comment by Mask

This seems like a fun trinket to use. I hope they change things to let melee roll for it.

"In the case of Deteriorated Construct Core, it was nerfed to reduce the proc rate for non-ranged specs, making it undesirable for melee. Personally, this would be my least favored way of fixing it, as it reduces the potential trinket pool for many specs."

As a Ranged DPS whose chances of getting this have been reduced because it is so good for melee, this would be my favorite way of fixing it. It's annoying when a good trinket intended for ranged is inadvertently made good for melee as well, and ranged is forced to share. Which in many cases means waiting a long time for it.

Should we start complaining about all the trinkets with conditions "Your MELEE attacks..." With powerful procs?

This is for Range, Melee also get their own cakes to eat. End of story!

Trinkets have always had a distinction between "on melee/ranged/spells". This trinket clearly states "on spells and ranged abilities".
So, the proper solution would be to disable it completely for melee specs.

The other topic on hand is that this trinket is performing extremely well. The cause here is that outside of the neltharion trinket, practically all other trinkets are significantly weaker. So more likely than not, nerfing the outlier trinket overall down to a similar performance is a better solution.

I think this is intended for range..........

This is a very classic case of the developers making the game they want vs the game players want to play.

Obviously if Blizzard hasn't included this trinket in the melee agility drop pool, it is because they don't want the trinket to be used by melee agility. Full stop.

The obvious solution to get players to stop whining about it would be just to have the proc trigger for ranged specializations only. Problem would be solved, and quite frankly I don't care if the melee agility like the solution or not. A Havoc Demon Hunter shouldn't be wanting the trinket just because it triggers off Throw Glaive or Eye Beam, both of which costs nothing to use and trigger the proc. An Enhancement Shaman shouldn't be wanting the trinket just because it'd proc off of Maelstrom Weapon usage with no real downsides.

I'm honestly not too scuffed that other melee trinkets outside the Neltharion one are weaker; this expansion has been pretty dominated by melee specs as it is, and I don't want to see a trinket intended for ranged specs be nerfed just because the melee DPS community are mad they're not going to be in the limelight this patch.

Comment by Daityas

If blizz intent is to not make it available for all specs, then it needs to get rekt since its an outlier, either everyone is op or no one is, and knowing blizz they will nerf the outlier, so hope you had fun with flowstone on ptr, cause it will get hammered soon :)

It looks like a fun interaction, I would love to drop it on my windwalker since it's &*!@ing B I S but sadly wont be able to

It shouldn't be loot locked to ranged dps and stupidly hard to get for melees, just allow specs that have agility or intellect main stat to drop it, just like we can drop healer trinket even though we don't really need on hybrid classes.
Unlock the fun, it's one of the only trinket that can more or less compare with "ultra rare" ones which are only good for casters, it's fine to let interactions like that sometimes

A tier being melee friendly because there is some cleave doesn't mean you can't perform as a range or melee needs to be nerfed, just accept that It wasn't a ranged damage profile, now it is, so let cheese mechanic happens (it's literally a 1% dmg gain btw)

You know that some classes have mixed abilities, right? whats your problem?

Comment by Silverized

This is one of the better trinkets for dev evokers and is a good passive option for us. I really hope that they don't end up nerfing the trinket for us ranged, who it's meant for, just because melee are complaining and wanting it too.
Just make it proc off ranged abilities only or something so they don't want it anymore. Like it's clearly only meant to be used by ranged.

Like without this, if it loses it's power level from a nerf, we have almost no passive trinket options that are good. That would make me sad tbh.

Comment by Strayyed

As a Devoker. I agree. It already says harmful spells or ranged abilites. Idk why this post was even made. it's not a "drop issue." It's clearly designed as a ranged trinket.

Comment by Daityas

"Pls blizz dont nerf a trinket thats ahead by 2k+ over any other existing trinket" pretty much, delusional, also coming from a devoker thats prob one of the strongest spec for aberrus makes this even more laughable.

Comment by Seniaa

Except every single ability that can proc it for Ele (except for Earthquake pretty much) Enhance has access to. Is Lightning Bolt going to suddenly stop procccing it just because I switch specs?

Comment by CrystalysX

buffing another trinket to make it less desirable for melee agi users. could also be something we can try so not have every single player need the same trinket again. trying to get a icon was close to impossible. would be a shame if it happend again.

Comment by Seniaa

This is a repeat of Sepulcher for healers not being able to loot the "garbage on almost everyone else" Dasausage trinket for M+ usage until S4 where they could finally buy it with Dinars. Same with Druids and the Gavel.

If it is good on a spec, it should be lootable on that spec, the fact that this is even up for debate makes 0 sense.

Comment by hyousuke

could buff another trinket to make it so for melee agi users wouldnt want the ranged option. not having everyone need the same trinket again like icon would make it more fun overall for ppl trying to pug and get gear. instead off rolling against 20-30 ppl. you roll against 5-6 ranged. got icon this week, cuz i finly managed to roll a 100 but that's abit to late now isnt it.
