Another strategy to deal with Vigilant Duskwatch is not to attack them but to rather use hard crowd-control spells (like Paralysis, Blind, etc.) especially if you have multiple adds. This way you do not have to leave them with the boss, making it much safer and at the end of the boss fight, they disappear!

Here is an example of how to handle multiple spawns of Vigilant Duskwatch

How do both of these methods shorten the RP?

Does prot paladins still detect the demons during the mini-game in CoS even without the artifact weapon?

There are two types of RP at the last boss, a long one, and a short one. If you don't do what's described in the article you get the long RP. No idea why.

Yes, it still works, AFAIK all you have to do is to transmog the shield.

There is a unique long RP if you do not do either of these methods.

See: Dropping Some Eaves

You need to be transmogged to it iirc. Since you can weapon swap as ret/holy in m+ you should be able to still have the appearance on a random shield in your inventory.

Because if you don't get caught you get a longer form of RP (I believe its 20-30 seconds longer) and also the achievement for doing so.

Regardless, you should be opting for this anyway as the beacon on the right as you enter the first boss area is a suicide pull with the big elemental and I believe two cats.

How about some explanation what is happening and why? How do those things affect RP at the end?

Doing the dungeon 'perfect' aka, 5pillars destroyed at start, kill all 3 mini bosses and find the spy with 5 tips first try will award and achivement and different RP, however said RP is much longer.

It's pretty simple. If you do the dungeon "right," by disabling all the sentries and choosing the imposter right away, you've successfully snuck your way to the last boss. By doing that, you get to overhear more of Elisandre plans (so more lore) before the fight starts. That's why there's an achievement linked to doing that - "Dropping some Eaves."

But doing what this article suggests - leaving at least 1 signal beacon up, and/or accusing the wrong guests of being an imposter - results in your cover being blown before you get to the last boss and Elisandre doesn't reveal anything special to you. She basically tells the last boss "Here's our guests. I've got better things to do. Dispose of them."

TLDR - So, do the dungeon in the "right" way, you get extra RP and an achievement. But, keystone time is ticking away during this longer rp. For this season, your goal is to do the dungeon "wrong" and make sure that you blow your cover to get the short RP.

This dungeon is a kind of infiltration, if you perform all the mechanics that would prevent being found out, ie guards being summoned or calling out the wrong suspicious noble then you can catch a snippet of the conversation between Melandrus and Elisande where she talks at length about Thalyssra still being alive and undermining the dealings of the nightborne and legion. This snippet takes longer so in M+ you want to "fail" one of these mechanics so you get the short sweet RP dialog.

The end boss rp is about insurgents(players) infiltrating the court. By either alerting guards or accusing someone wrongly it means the end boss is no longer surprised and thus a shorter conversation with elisande

Depending on whether or not you disable all 5 beacons before the first boss, or misidentify the wrong spy at the party after the second boss the 3rd boss and Elisande have two different dialogs, one is a lot longer.

long RP means more time wasted in keys. Failing to hit certain timers +2 +3 because of having to wait for NPCs to do their RP doesn't feel great.

It's why Skovald in HOV was nerfed so he doesnt bad guy monologue as much anymore.

Meanwhile, we still have to waste time signaling a boat and riding in said boat.

We could literally just start at the dock.
But nope.
Gotta have that boat RP and time sink.

Such a dumb design from the beginning.
Finding the spy can be made easier by add-ons and certain classes, but dang man. Why have such an annoying mechanic to deal with in a mythic plus, timed event?

It’s just not necessary for keys.

Final boss (Advisor Melandrus) has 2 possible dialogues with Elisande. First dialogue, she explains her plans with Melandrus in detail (how to kill Thalysra and how Melandrus failed to do so). Later then she tells him she has to go to Nighthold and we barge in to fight him. This dialogue is triggered when there is no Vigilant Duskwatch who warns on our presence, and no noble who warns Elisande about us asking questions about a spy. This dialogue is a kinda long RP for M+, but awards an achievement.

Second dialogue is where Elisande is warned by a Vigilant Duskwatch or a Noble, she just tells Melandrus that it isn't the moment for this talk, he has once again failed her and he has his last chance to correct things by killing us.

It actually makes sense and I never realized it in Legion :P

For most weeks, leaving a signal beacon up (the lone one on the right is best left alone you don't want that trash), is not that punishing - except maybe on like 20+ I have not done this yet. but in 17 and below the add was a cake walk and died very fast with mediocore dps cleaving.

Comment by Rohendar

You are quite able to click that beacon on the right in boss room without pulling the pack. Just wait for it to roam to the back right.

Comment by Nagganx

ok so doing the "wrong" way, how much time does this actually cut down? considering you now made the first boss fight longer and harder. so does it really reduce time?

The beacon is not a suicide pull. You can do that beacon without pulling the mobs. You just have to know when to approach it (when the mobs have moved to their farthest point from the tower).

I think the preferred method is blowing the "find the demon spy" after the 3rd boss, no risk of a tougher fight there just maybe a few extra second that are still less then what the longer RP would take up.
