Sounds ok to be fair. The only thing that would give me hesitation would be yes, I can do the quest line in any order and skip back and fourth if I wish, that is good, but do I have to finish them all or just reach cap? If it's just reach cap fantastic, I can do some quests I want to do, do some dungeons, maybe even spam dungeons etc etc.... If it's not just reach cap and you have to finish all of the story quests no matter what order you do it in then I don't really get it.

I just want to level how I want to the first time, not forced into the story. If I want to dungeon grind or BG grind to level why am I not allowed to do that? It's like shadowlands you had no choice but to do the entire story or you didn't get legendaries/covenants.

Same leveling system then.

its been like this since what legion? is it really that bad to do the story once before blasting through on alts?

You didn't have to do the main story in legion, you didn't even have to do surumar if you didn't want to. All it does is take away player choice when you're forced into one path. I love both retail and classic but leveling in classic is much more enjoyable because I don't have to just follow this golden path laid infront of me. I can dungeon or BG grind or even when I'm questing I have the freedom to go where I want and skip some quests I don't want to do.

Because if they let people do what they want, you get the problems previous expansions had where people are confused about the story and complain that it doesn't make any sense. They force people to level through the story because otherwise a mess of people complain and it can reduce player retention as well.

My dude, they forced the story in shadowlands and it still made 0 sense.

Or to play devils advocate you could say that some people feel that way because often the writing is all over the place and with large periods of shall we say, decreased quality and forethought.

who knew you would have to do the storyline at least one time in a story-driven game?

Comment by Chanchi

Because WoW is an RPG, RPGs have a story.

Now we just need a cross-faction outdoor questing/leveling so we can play with our friends who are on the opposite faction when DF comes out

I think the Shadowlands system worked well.

Comment by NiccoloM

Why would you expect events that are not related to the Shadowlands give you legendaries and covenants that work in the Shadowlands?

You already have 1-50 to do whatever you want to do. Chromie Time works well for people like you.

Actually it's closer to Legion or BfA style leveling, where you just pick a zone and go at it, jump around, only do main story or do side story and WQs. We aren't locked out of the main stories on alts this time. I think it's great!

If I want to dungeon grind or BG grind to level why am I not allowed to do that?

The only thing you have to do is a few things to unlock dragon riding and no one is making you do any of the story. So... I don't understand what the issue is?

now, when do we get account-wide reputation ?

is there any possible gold farms? Dailies, callings etc?

Just get rid of leveling, what a lose of time...

Comment by b6i6o6

Yes! So much yes!

Being locked out of the story like in Shadowlands was so horrible! My alt playstyle is to focus on some zone or another and do it thoroughly. That was very tedious to do in SL, especially Revendreth. You have no choice but to do all the storyline content from the other zones first since threads of fate prevents you from doing the story quests, so you arrive in Revendreth at like 58. You basically wasted all your fun leveling time doing quests you didn't want to do, and you'll quickly reach 60. Therefore, the only way you'll be able to do Revendreth thoroughly is doing it at max level which is actually a waste of time since you don't need xp anymore on that character and other activities would give better gear at max level.

Thank you so much blizzard for changing this in Dragonflight!

Or just do away with factions.

Afterall, factions were an idea from the beginning of the franchise 30 years ago, and it's mostly based on nationalism that grew into racism. In the 21st century, there should no longer be any factions and everyone should be treated the same.

If they could they would. The issues remaining are completely tech based and why Blizzard said they are TRYING to get outdoor xfaction in place for 10.0. There is a reason you can't xfaction things like ICC or BoD and it isn't because Blizzard detects fun or anything. It's just they can't enable it with the current tech limitations.
