Auction House Available for Use Again - Some Players Locked Out of Characters

Posted 2022/08/16 at 10:46 PM by Squishei

Update 8:30 p.m. PDT

We’re very close to finished with the part of the fix that required we keep the AH closed. The AH should open up on all realms in the next few minutes. As we take further steps to return player accounts to their previous condition, a very small number of players will be locked out of their characters for an additional time. We’ll return them to availability as quickly as possible.Again, we thank you for your patience.

Anyone know what was actually going on? Was it simply bad ah or some exploitations?

Some kind of dupe/exploit. See Organick's post:

Tried posting Elethium Ore. There's already 4,294,967,249 listings at 22g each. It's not possible to have 4.3 billion legit postings. OOPS!

A bug that caused accidental free gold
Of course, exploited by those who knew the complicated and tedious method of reproduction to make gold out of thin air
Step 1. Post an auction
Step 2. Cancel the auction
Step 3. ?
Step 4. Profit
And for some reason it would later mail you the "sold" auction as if you bought it yourself.

What happened was, certain commodities, not all, when posted on the AH then cancelled. You would get the cancelled item, then an hour later you would get the gold of what you originally listed it for.

It happened to me, by accident, I cancelled a couple missives to mail to an alt and noticed gold later in the evening during raid

on EU theres still tons of mats listed, nearly 1-2 Million listing of one thing. how is that possible?

shouldnt we get rid of those Automatic Auctionhouse addons?

I'm one of them locked out players

I don't even have anything listed on the AH

My guess is that it's all players of a certain realm who were logged in at a given time window.

tl;dr is basically cancelling a commodity auction was causing it to both be cancelled and also 'bought' for 0g, so an hour after you had cancelled an auction and gotten your items back you'd get a mail with gold in it that said you had bought your own auction (eg. 100 potions up for a total of 1000g -> cancel -> get 100 potions back -> 1hr later get mail with 1000g in it)

Just waiting for complains of those "innocent souls" 😇👼 who deliberately (after finding out it was actually a glitch) kept posting and cancelling their items to accumulate tons of gold out of thin air and now are "locked out" while Blizz takes back all the gold and might even (hopefully not) punish them for purposely using the glitch.

It's region wide for commodities now, that's how there's 1-2 Million listings.

I wasnt planning on relisting anything before Friday, of all the glitches that could have occured with this update I think this was fairly minor.

Fairly minor?

If you posted one herb for a million gold and cancelled it then the game mailed you a million gold.

I'd hardly say that's fairly minor.

My account is still locked, and it was minor, just relisted TWO items when undercut around the same time, no idea about the bug, saw the gold hours later then account locked. A wide brush ban is not a fair response to something that failed on their end, and still having players sitting here without a resolve.

I had interacted with the AH and after about 30 seconds it would become unresponsive, couldn't interact with any npc, use any item, the log out button and exit game button. Wouldn't work. Forced me to alt f4 exit, wjen I tried to log back in it would tell me "character with that name already exists" and kick me back to the character selection screen. I could log into another toon, but it would still show the other one online until it got kicked for inactivity.

appareantly even if you never ever post anything on auction house and ur only use is to buy consumes, you will be unable to play your character. And when you eventualy can log in, you will be kicked out when you open the auction house again.

i wouldnt say so.

its mostly ten of thousands listing of one item from a single person. That cant be a thing without using bots

bots or addons? there are addons that do the listing and such with the click of a button.
