I spoke to a friend who works at Blizz that was, unfortunately, part of the harassment that went on and during the convo i asked her SPECIFICALLY about Jeff because the timing of his departure (right before the news broke) seemed to line up. She made it VERY CLEAR that he was one of the good guys. I don't think he was removed from the game because of any wrongdoing. I think he was removed because of them scrubbing names to real people point.

edit: added a few words for clarity

Will they put Freddy in Jeff's place? Just cuz it's part of pizza"era"

Comment by FelrynBtw

having anything named after anyone is a risk and blizzard is beyond stupid for naming so many key things after staff members, controversy or not.

Comment by Elladaryn

I think it is also related to how Jeff left OW2 before it's conclusion. While it doesn't feel cool, at least it can make some sense if you add it with the new policy of not naming things in of behalf of devs.

I do not believe he was 'removed' at all, I think he just simply left because it no longer felt like home to him.

Have to agree that it sounds more like a case of future-proofing.

I mean the references to him were removed, not him personally. I made that clear in that post.

Removed(##RESPBREAK##)272##DELIM##Uchur##DELIM##Irrelevant Remember back in the day when people said the only company that could dethrone Blizzard is Blizzard?

Comment by Matrixwolf

hmm so why did he really leave? :/

Comment by Masai

Feel like he left because Activision was trying to push out the release of OW 2 which is taking quit some times

Comment by Sviel

At this point just scrub all reference of Metzen, Morhaime, and maybe Samwise as well, and you get the new, clean, and cringe Blizzard.

Yeah.... That's stupid. I mean your point of view, just to be clear. 80% of the players didn't know who Jeff was. 95% didn't get the reverence.
Only a small number of people with a fragile ego like a 6 year old (i dont mean to offend 6 year old btw), get triggerd over a name in a game.
It would be 10 times better, to get their *!@# together IRL. Then nobody would give a %^&* about ingame things.
I find it rather nice, if something like "jeff's pizza" is in the game. Or some RL reverences. And Jeff didn't harass anyone, as of what we know for now.
I guess, he simply left because the company is full of idiots.

Comment by Neptula

This just feels like an overreaction on their part.
Jeff didn't harass anyone, but now hes being put in the same boat as Jesse.
Also I had no idea Jeph was in reference to Jeff.

Whats next? Thrall getting removed?

How could anyone think that Jeff "Tigole Bitties" Kaplan would EVER be someone that would harass or demean women in any way?

That's SARCASM by the way. Good riddance.

Removed(##RESPBREAK##)272##DELIM##Uchur##DELIM##Trolling Rewriting history does NOTHING to change factual history. Leave the proper nouns alone, leave resemblances alone. History repeats itself unless there is history remaining to teach future generations the negatives of their forefathers, WITHOUT FORECEFEEDING IT DOWN THEIR THROATS. Rewriting history is a thing Stalin, Hitler, and butthurt folks without an introduction to the real world did/does. Don't submit the world to small-minded and walking-on-eggshells social norms that are afforded mainly to 1 state in a 50 state country out of 195 countries on the entire planet. Fix stuff by being good people, put out good content, and not devoting 80% of your yearly budget to lawyers, management bonus pays, incessant worry about stock and investors, and cover-ups. Money talks, bull**** walks, cater to the people spending money on your products, not the pundits and trigger-sensitive whatevers out there. Be the Blizzard that made Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft. Don't be bad people, be good video game makers. And stop being a bunch of pansies.

Calm down people. They just want to remove and RL referneces to people who work/worked at Blizz.

Understandable imho.

You never know what happens.
I don't think Kaplan did anything btw. But i also think is is ok with that. Seems like a chill guy.

Comment by qaccy

At this point it's getting kinda ridiculous. Is every instance of a real-world name going to be changed by the time this is all done?
