Asia Pacific Activision Blizzard Layoffs - Roughly 30 Positions at Sydney Office

Activision Blizzard layoffs are expected to continue

“We’ve been exploring how we might best integrate our capabilities across the business and be efficient as we evolve to meet growth opportunities and stay competitive in Asia Pacific. To that end, we have begun conversations with employees regarding a plan to centralize some roles across the region in our Sydney office. Decisions of this nature are never easy and supporting our employees through this process is our number one priority.”

“Activision’s part of the company doesn’t believe in community management and fandom,” said the source to MCV/DEVELOP. “They think their games sell themselves. They’d rather pop a couple of millions on having Beyonce tweet about CoD than hire a bunch of good people.”

I remember, once upon a time, when Blizzard's customer service was top-notch, world class, best in the business. They could not be topped, they would do anything to fix things and make them right.

Activision has completely and totally sacrificed that. Decades of trust, rapport, and relationships are being thrown out the door to save a few bucks this quarter.

Penny wise, pound stupid.

Enjoy late stage capitalism, sadly far too many people will defend them so they are the ones letting the world burn.

And FatBobby is still rolling with his cash. He's the devil.

I hate capitalism

There is a lot of irony here to unpack.

Comment by KaptainKrunk

All these people complaining about late-stage capitalism, yet supporting the company regardless, completely unaware the benefit of capitalism is the ability for consumers to choose what they want to support.

there's customer care in Sydney office?

honestly not surprising, as someone who is currently in Australia working. the foot traffic in the city is vastly diminished and the pandemic has taught us that for a lot of jobs, working remote is perfectly fine

if the job can done from home then it can most definitely be done from an ocean away

the ones that got layoff mostly work for CoD and that has really nothing to do with blizzard
read the article before u wanna start a blizzards crap now hate train...

yes alot of blizzard games related comm service employees had been layoff in the past and it s***ed ofc it does besides it happens everyday that is the price we have to pay for having the freedom we get by having a capitalisim system dont get me wrong i am not an anticap but i am for real regulations of cap

exploitation should be at best a rare case but not the rule

but thats just my opinion

You clearly have no idea how the world works, real economists like Yanis Varoufakis have been ringing the bell of how disastrous and not even capitalist the current world of mega corporations is yet you keep trying to pretend as if consumers can magically fix this as if they have the realistic power to do so, reality=/=imaginary scenarios btw.

The world isnt the fairy tale your economics 101 told you it is.

I really don't get this idea that the business is there to provide jobs to people. It's there to provide profit for the founder(s) and any shareholders. Always has been, always will be.

If a worker is disposable, he/she will be deposed. Solution? Turn yourself in to a kind of a worker that is hard to dispose of.
Or start your own business.

I suggest that Blizzard Entertainment remove themselves from Activision before it is too late. If they continue to go down this path, then they are gonna spiral down to nothingness. It is for their own good. I love this company and hate to see it being controlled by Activision more everyday and being driven further into the ground.

Blizzard: Do the right thing for Pete sake. You still can come back from this and be the core company you used to be. Please.

But is it already too late?

This whole world situation is forcing many companys to do such things even faster then they would normaly do because of automatization AI robot fun bla. I am not surprised its time to move out of the big Citys and do something usefull for yourself and your family.

That's what a lot of Blizzard employees did, and I expect the trend to continue. Pretty much all of the original founders left, and a lot of senior staff is leaving as well. How many small new studios have been formed by ex-Blizzard staff this year? I think it's 3 by now.

Even though I'm a big fan and don't like seeing Blizzard products getting destroyed, I think the only way forward is for the talent at Blizzard to leave Activision. I'd love to see more of the good WoW artists/designers/developers leave Blizzard and form a new company to work on a new MMO.

There really is no way for Blizzard to break free. There is no longer even a Blizzard TO break free, as in an independent entity. They for many years now have been fully merged with Activation, and merely a fully owned branch of the parent company Activision Blizzard, Inc. It is just recently Activision Blizzard HQ has been turning its eye on its Blizzard branch and progressively been curtailing the freedoms they have historically enjoyed in the name of profit. There is nothing Blizzard really can do, as their fate was sealed a good decade ago.

That quote saying that their 'number one priority' is supporting their employees...wow, what a bald-faced lie! Obviously their real priority is kicking people out and putting that money somewhere else...
