Taliesin and EvitelWorld of Warcraft Shadowlands is looming. New cinematics are being released, the pre-patch could drop at any time and Blizzard have confirmed they will NOT be pulling the ripcord on covenant abilities and swapping... so basically, they've got some tuning to do. We look at al the things that are still missing from the game in the current BETA build, (and some new things that aren't) in the all new Weekly Reset! Knowledge is power.

Comment by Ralph2449I think Tali is missing an important point, you dont need to be optimal to do any content past world first/high m+ because blizzard never uses such high levels of difficulty and that includes mythic.

Here's an example.
Let's say we build a sim for specifically wrathion and your spec, we mean to the gcd in level of details, that sim will take your class and achieve optimal useage of every single gcd as well as using the most optimal build. (You can argue build might change slightly depending on the time you get targeted by the mechanic but that variation is small and this is just an example)

That sim is a robot and perfected the pve encounter therefore it was 100% optimal and performance both build and mechanically wise.
A player might copy that build but due to imperfections mechanically will reach let's say 93% optimality and performance.
A decent player not having the perfect build but knows how to play their class and encounter will reach let's say 78% optimality and performance.
A bad players with the best build might only reach 60% optimality, you could say without that build he might do 56% optimality but the problem is clearly mechanical.

Here's the thing, mythic would require all 20 players on average have 75% optimality and performance, heroic being 60% and normal being 40% required, as long as your players are decent an average at around 75% impartiality they are more than fine

And every single week that passes means more geared players which means the requirements are dropping, so even if mythic on the first week would require 95% optimality, every single week of further geardrops it by 2%

The moment you understand this, it is the moment you realize you dont need to be optimal for all content to do raids or m+ like some pretend "Oh i cant do m+ now cuz I am not 100% optimal in m+" unless we pretend all those complaining are doing m30s rn.
For me though, it comes down to the fact that I want to feel like I'm contributing as best I can in whatever activity I'm doing. Personally, I'd like to go Night Fae -- I love the zone, I like the covenant storyline, and the weekly event is useful. But I'm a hunter. Their class ability is straight up garbage. That leaves me with Maldraxus (not a fan of the aesthetic at all but not a *terrible* ability), Bastion (probably a better choice for Mythic+), and Venthyr (the far and away best single target, raid choice at the moment). So depending on how they end up tuning the Maldraxus ability, I'm either going to have to:

A) Go Maldraxus and just put up with not having any desire to be there and not liking my main zone
B) Go Bastion, be ok with my covenant choice, and choose to not be as good in raid as I could be
C) Go Venthyr, be ehh with my covenant choice, and choose to not be as good in mythic+ as I could be
D) Go Night Fae, be happy with my covenant choice, and know that I am choosing to play a weaker character that will put a heavier burden on groups I run with (a bigger deal in mythic+ where theres only 3 dps, but still something I'm not comfortable with in raids) and may very well keep me from getting invited to some groups all together

What i mean by that is it should be like the filter for classic or live or in development filters, make a new filter for content creators, Who wants to see it can keep it in who doesnt want to be notified about it or see it can tick the filter to remove such posts, that would be better instead of shoving them down our throats, not speaking about T&E i have nothing against them but also like the sloot roundtables for example or rextroy 1 shot vids, just make a new filter for these.

It's not like Classic (where the filter makes sense) that there are multiple news articles per week sometimes, it's one video per week and well lately not even that since they were on break because they moved.Comment by DugdogI disagree in comparing Azerite Armor with Conduits just because both have ilvls, their only shared pain point is their reset method, but that wasn't the main argument being bought up in the video anyways.

Azerite's constant upgrades have 2 problems and 1 hypocritical statement there, lets start with the former. First problem is the obvious one that plagued us for two tiers, you get a high level piece and it is not an upgrade because unlike your previous piece you haven't unlocked all the rings on it. That was like if you Belt upgrade from thee next raid has the same seconday stats, but you have to still farm to unlock the haste part of it, which keeps your current belt stronger while that happens. Conduits have no such lockout in place and behave as direct upgrades that as soon as you get you can equip(well if it is already equipped it just jumps up to that level).

The other problem with Azerite was acquisition. M+ pieces at the start were completely random drops with bad luck protection to eventually assure your weekly chest contained one, while later the residuum let you just assure a random piece for a given slot at a steady rate. Mneawhile in raids for the first 3 tiers the focus was providing most combinations of traits, until Nyalotha provided in general good combinations on purpose. What this means is for the vast majority of time you were either playing a roulette where you had maybe 2-3(many had a single 1) M+ piece with no bad luck protection(unless you stopped rolling for a few months and bought it, but statistically that wasn't actually worth it unless you had future sight and knew you'd have abysmal luck) while raid couldn't provide you with a full actually good set most of the time(even Nyalotha fails at that for many specs). To put a long story short, unless all your wanted pieces were on a raid boss, it was a crap shoot to ever farm them out as upgrades. On the other hand Conduits ALL drop from specific sources, so if you look for an upgrade you know the source for sure and can focus on attaining it, and most importantly as it stands they are personal drops independent of actual loot drops, which means there is no fighting over pieces. If one comes from a World Boss, then you literally just have to kill that world boss, next patch the upgraded version may come from a new World Boss, or be put on a Raid Boss, or part of some new content type, but where ever it is, if you want it you know where to look and if a conduit drops from the source it will be exactly that conduit and it will be your conduit.

TL;DR: You never have to worry that a different Conduit will drop from the same source, you never have to fight over conduits as loot nor will they take a place of a drop, if you get a higher ilvl one it is inherently an upgrade to the same one without any farming necessary, every conduit will be available at a higher level every tier(unlike azerite trait combinations) AND getting the higher level ones just inherently upgrades your existing ones rather than replacing them.

Now about the hypocrisy. As far as raid pieces went, Azerite pieces filled in everything that every other gear slot he is fine with filled in in a new patch, the item has a new name, slightly different spread(of traits or stats depending on which kind of item we are talking about) and a different appearance, in a sense replacing a lower level conduit with a higher level one from new content is gonna be the same as replacing a Haste Mastery belt from the previous raid tier with a haste mastery belt from the next tier and it having 1:0.66 stat spread instead of a 0.89:0.77 spread doesn't really make it different enough(if anything as conduits scale up some of the less effective ones will reach levels of strength may suddenly be viable) just because the Conduit will be named the same, it ain't that different from getting the NEXT Crit/Haste ring from the raid.Comment by Ralph2449I simply don't understand what the big deal is with not being able to switch covenants on the fly.Comment by AsgrimI simply don't understand what the big deal is with not being able to switch covenants on the fly.will notWILLComment by Ralph2449The issue here is that the covenants don't really offer strengths and weaknesses. Preach ain't the only one who has brought this up, Nobbel himself has also called it out among many other people who have actually played the beta and seen the systems first hand.
Won't happen. Swapping from one covenant to another isn't a hudle at all, Blizzard have said that they will have catch up mechanics in place from the very start so that if you pick a covenant and regret your choice you'll be able to just swap to another one and get caught up without much of a hassle and not be permantly left in the dust like certain rogues were in legion when their artifact (subtlety, i think?) got nerfed and being forced to re-grind a massive amount of artifact power. It's swapping back to a covenant you've already been a part of that's gonna be timegated for no reason. So yeah, you're sadly gonna have to find someone elses misery to jerk off to.

It's extremely obvious that Preach for example doesn't want the game to be bad or for the covenants to fail or chomping at the bits for an excuse to go after Blizzard. We all want it to succeed, but it's very obvious judging by Blizzard's recent and not so recent history that success when it comes to balancing the covenants is a highly unlikely outcome. Every time Blizzard tries something like this they stick to their guns, ignore all the pleas and then eventually eat their own words and admit defeat when it's too little too late.

I just wish they would spend their time and resources creating new exciting content instead of spending entire expansion cycles fixing these ridiculous, needlessly convoluted systems that nobody asked for. But whatever, it is what it is and you'll see come 9.2 or 9.3 or whenever they decide to admit defeat this time around. It's just sad that people still believe that Blizzard is capable of balancing systems like this with a 0% success rate at doing just that.And I will always take an unabalanced game that has fun unique skill choices and systems over a boring homogenized competitive """""rpg"""""Comment by Ralph2449Uh, because maybe i identify with and really enjoy the aesthetic of a certain covenant but picking it would mean not being able to participate in the content i enjoy? I'll give you an example: I think the necrolords are really cool and i'd love to pick them on my death knight, sadly, the death knight necrolord ability is complete and utter trash and completely useless for the content i enjoy and that's just the tip of the iceberg. So, what am i gonna do?

Is it going to be balanced? Probably not. But if you're the kind of person that needs to have everything optimized across every. single. system. chances are you're playing whatever is flavour of the month anyway for MAXIMUM OPTIMIZATION.

One sub-optimal button on your action bar is not going to lock you out of all content.
