Rextroy Explains How Sockets in PvP Make You Weaker Due to Scaling

Without using the gem or legs with sockets, he took 11,350 damage from Clawing Shadows and inflicted 17076 damage with Judgment.

He then swapped into the same legs with sockets and equipped Versatile Dark Opal, which logically should make him deal more damage and take less damage. However, he took 11,383 damage from Clawing Shadows and inflicted 17019 damage with Judgment.

PvP scaling is a thing that has been with us throughout BFA. My personal opinion about it is that its better than Templates but not really optimal. It is too riddled with bugs and certain scenarios will make good items weaker compared to a lower ilvl one, just because of PvP scaling. This is especially true for rings.

I would suggest you all make your own testing with PvP scaling, since it differs a lot depending on pvp item level.

I was not able to go test everything about PvP scaling in this video, since it is quite a large system.

Hopefully there will be some changes to the system in Shadowlands. At the very least make it more apparent what you are actually doing (healing, dmg etc) and not keep it hidden.

Blizzard fixing problems that are not a problem at all for anyone (resilience, pvp gear), and creating more headache and even more problems.
We need new dungeons, raids and zones every 5-6-7 months and be done with it.

That is just a massive spit into a face after "fun" vision spam.

There should not be ever some "hidden" scaling. Either bring back resilience/PvP power or follow Rextroy's idea so fresh max level people are not "too stomped" (even tho back in my days it was EXPECTED to get stomped by heroic ICC raiders as someone with borean tundra gear)
