World of Warcraft ® Classic Sets New Launch-Day Record for Peak Concurrent Viewers on Twitch

The Horde and the Alliance were out in full force on Monday—World of Warcraft ® Classic just set a new record for the highest launch-day concurrent viewership on Twitch, with livestreams of World of Warcraft reaching a peak concurrent viewership of more than 1.1 million unique viewers of WoW ® Classic’s launch day!

Thanks to all of the adventurers—and everyone cheering them on—who set out with us on this epic journey back into Azeroth’s history.

WoW® Classic is Blizzard Entertainment’s authentic recreation of the original Azeroth before its seven game-changing expansions. The game invites players to return to an era of wonder and danger as they experience adventures previously lost to time, reconnecting with old allies and forging new friendships along the way. World of Warcraft Classic launched globally on August 27 (August 26 at 3pm PDT in North America), and comes included with every World of Warcraft subscription.

If only because of how hilariously and ironically wrong both statements were...Comment by MilkiraI wonder how many views wow would have had if twitch and streaming in general had been a thing back then. And how the game would have developed. I noticed a trend in many other blizzard games that they seem to be more optimized to watch, rather than played yourself. Maybe classic will go that way too and eventually become a free to play spectacle with it's own twitch emotes and rewards for cheering etc.

I've been there 15 years ago and I was literally living in a game. Today, I have a wife, a kid, a job and I'd like to read more news about retail, a thing that I can afford to play time-wise.

I have not been following that aspect of it.Comment by WillowwhispI chose not to get Classic news on Wowhead, so I unchecked "Classic" yet this came up...there is almost no news about retail on Wowhead. Wowhead has essentially become the Classic bullhorn. I'm going to start avoiding this website probably until there is a new datamining event for the next patch because to me, Classic news is redundant and dull, all about how fab the community is and how long the queues are. I've lived too long to need to cook up challenge, stress, and fake drama in my life, and that's what the "rigor" of Classic is to me.
