So awesome! Congrats ClassiCast team on getting to banter with these 2 legends, and thanks to Brian Birmingham & Omar Gonzalez for taking the time to candidly talk about Classic! Great to see the enthusiasm.
I want to see Classic+ content. Or if you step through the portal, you can go to the Burning Crusades, and you leave the Classic server pristine. New content for Classic would be the way to go!
Wow seasons... start fresh, and put out a patch every couple of weeks till your at BFA then start again; and/orClassic Wow, expand on it, concentrating on what made classic great.
After phase 6, i would be all for a classic+ experience.
Classic+, simple.
I loved BC. It was my favorite xpac. But Classic+.... Feels like I'm looking over my shoulder at the girl in the red dress...
Castrum has some good commentary on the post phase six possibilities. My own feeling is that if Blizzard follows anything close to the same path that was taken with retail and expects a different outcome, that would follow the definition of insanity. I don’t expect that to occur, and why would we want it so? We’d loose all the things we’re returning to Classic for to begin with!Conceptually, whatever happens after Phase 6 will effectively fracture WOW reality; it’s story, game experience and even development will enter boast alternate realities. This is no small thing for Blizzard to consider. It might even fracture the vibe within the company itself (if it hasn’t already) … “Oh him? That’s Noash Zitokazias. He works on retail Warcraft, that Gen-M project. They should just retire that to console gaming where it belongs.” Regardless, what they do will be entirely dependent on the success of Classic. Expect a significant amount of Blizzard monitoring. Specifically what account is logging into what experience, for how long and what their accomplishments are (all easily trackable) and the cadence may be frequent; as they will be required to report on this and run comparatives as Classic continues.Further, Blizzard is expecting the population to thin itself out as folks realize what they’ve done to themselves… Those back for a second helping of vanilla (like myself) know that the game is the grind and are, for the most part, prepared for a repeat experience; if time allows. Those enjoying retail (i.e. candyland) are the target market for population decrease. Those that missed out on the WOW experience yet heard all about it, are the middle ground that will hopefully, become the compensating control. In any case, the direction of future projects will hinge on what all of us do here. To that end, I fancy Melski’s idea of Seasonal Warcraft, but that would require Heirlooms in a big way. Personally, I’d like to see entirely new content with a story line that follows wherever the Blizzard Movie would go next; as it diverged from retail’s plot. As for specific features, I somewhat expected Blizzard would bake-in the ability to toggle certain cosmetic options - like "present day graphics" available to those that wanted them. Things that do not impact the game play specifically. This is not specific to Classic, but with the availability of Blizzard related iOS and Android apps, I wanted to at least offer some commentary with regard. Presently, the social experience, although a bit disjointed, is nice to have on mobile. I’m not sure what to expect here regarding Classic and will be interested to see in action. Personally, and as an industry professional, I feel there has been a huge oversight on Blizzards part regarding the side-stream revenue this platform offers. Take for example a 99 cent app that would allow you and another to host “pet battles” from your mobile device, or a 99 cent “fishing” app that (show how) is much more entertaining than present fishing; both directly tied to your in-game resources. For retail WOW’ers, I can see a resource gathering app being viable; however I would never suggest that in Classic terms. There is immense opportunity for the future, but it needs to remain Classic in all aspects, and that requires a lot of development. Can Blizzard sustain the duality of two WOW projects? Fiscally speaking, I don’t believe they will allow for projects that compete for the same player base; so we’ll see what happens. For now, I’ll be happy to game again with several folks that have ended their WOW careers post vanilla at some point. Returning with classes that actually make a difference in a group, or a raid; remaining optimistic that by the time we’re all into Molten Core (again) that the server will have enough players to sustain the forty player raiding experience. Managing that was no small task; perhaps the only aspect I’m not looking forward to.
Classic should be left alone so it will always be there. If they want to do Classic+, I'd like to see new content but no new gear and no class balancing. Basically just more dungeons to do and more bosses to fight with what we'd have in 1.12.
