WoW Classic - Update on Oceanic Realm Structure

We agree with the many WoW Classic enthusiasts in Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia that it will be a very good thing for players in that part of the world to connect to realms that are hosted in that part of the world.

Planned it all along!

We will have Oceanic realms for WoW Classic, with game servers hosted in Australia, at launch on August 27, and we’ll let you know the names of the Oceanic realms before name reservations start on August 13.

Even when I lived in the middle of nowhere playing US server with ADSL raiding Vanilla it was only ~250ms. Not sure why others have such bad latency in Australia, maybe stop using cheap ISPs? Beta testing classic and no issue with latency around 150ms. That said, it will be nice to have the Oceanic community concentrated on a few servers, rather than rolling on a random US server and having to play during the day to get any dungeons done.Comment by facelifterI'm not from Australia but I am quite happy for this. Layering will fix the initial influx, and the dropout from months of lost subs will correct the populations. Also, will stop the servers being so goddamn one sided, 80% of Frostmourne is Alliance pop and 80% of Barthilas is all Horde toons. One server would encourage more World Interaction. Also, sucks to be the dude who didn't get the memo.Comment by TaraezorDuring Cata I played, with a good ISP I might add and less than 1km from the exchange, with about 400ms latency. Thankfully WoW lets you queue up your spells. Back then I found that the Enhancement Shaman had little RNG so you could very competently play Enhancement if you knew the correct rotation.

Later in Pandaria the Windwalker Monk was initially in a similar position.

These days, latency is comparatively low but Blizzard have injected much more RNG into all class/specs.

For Classic I am a good km from the exchange where I live now but servers hosted in Australia will help. I am expecting about 200ms on a good day. As I won't be chasing World First Rags or Ony I can live with that.

Yes, many Aussies have horrible ADSL connections. The lucky ones connected to the government sponsored "NBN" have pretty good speeds and latency up to a location nearby in their street. From there and to the house the connection uses the old copper telephone wires. Sounds weird I know but it was to keep costs down. Paying yourself for fibre for the last few hundred metres I believe is possible. Not sure if anyone has done that though.Comment by FatSephyThis would have been great news except for the fact that they refuse to accept there are huge problems with latency for Australian players, and have been denying it for over a year (see the multiple forum threads on the subject).
