Blizzard's Responses

Blizzard

I understand that changes can throw people off a bit at first, but I also think they help keep the world of Azeroth feeling alive. When there are fewer portals, does the world feel a bit bigger to you? Do you like that? How difficult is it to get to the locations you mentioned without a direct portal (talking to everybody who isn’t a mage here  ) ?

Blizzard

I didn’t get a chance to verify it, but the plan was for the portals to show if you are on these quests.

For the part that was brought up about things like Ironforge being removed from the BfA portal rooms, I don’t think that’s intentional and should be changed in future build.

What content are folks doing in like CoT that the portal helps so much with? What about other areas? How much time do you think the new setup will add to your journey?

I can't help but feel that, from a glance, we're losing more than we're gaining with this portal room.

No portal to Ironforge anywhere on the PTR from what I could see. I guess they want us to use the Deeprun Tram from Stormwind?

Feels weird there would be a portal to Exodar, one of the deadest cities in the game where nothing happens ever, but not one to Ironforge where a few annual events take place.

But... Caverns of Time portal :(

Dreamwalk OP.

For the Alliance, at least, when you walk out of the portal room and down the ramp, there's a group of mages there just before you walk out of the tower. One is an Honor Hold Mage (if I remember right) that has dialog which suggests he will teleport you to Hellfire.

I was headed somewhere else at the time, so didn't try it out and didn't talk to the other three mages to see if they offered anything.

Because it is. No Ironforge portal anywhere in the game is BS to be honest. And the removal of New Dalaran lower portals is BS aswell.
During Legion it was the only time transportation in game was fun and well-thought.
Now say hello back to 10 minute flights to get to different interest points you could get to in seconds.

Would be curious to hear Blizzard's reasoning

There is a portal to IF in Boralus....

Completely removing the portals to the Caverns of Time, Dalaran Crater, Karazhan, Wyrmrest Temple, and Vale of Eternal Blossoms seems a bit unnecessary. It also sounds like they're removing theportals that lead to New Dalaran and adding ones for Azsuna instead (?).

At the very least, make it so that there is a portal to both the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and to New Dalaran from Orgrimmar/Stormwind. I would have thought that these portal rooms would have portals to all the major cities for those of adequate level, but I suppose there are the major city portals in Dazar'alor and I assume in Boralus too.

The other non-capital portals currently in New Dalaran are nice conveniences to have for getting to old raid content such as Battle for Mount Hyjal/Dragon Soul, Karazhan, and Naxxramas/OS/RS and will be missed (though I don't see why they have to be removed as they're extremely convenient for the Legion storyline). What I can't understand is the reasoning behind there being portals to all of the major expansion capitals except Mists of Pandaria and Legion.

No portal to Ironforge anywhere on the PTR from what I could see.

Is there not a portal to Ironforge from Boralus? I play Horde and there are portals in Dazar'alor that lead to the three remaining major Horde cities (Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon City) and Silithus.

mages getting ready for maximum profit

It's a good day to be a mage.

The caverns of time portal is going to be sorely missed. Is there still one in Shattrath if you are revered with the lower city? I haven't checked in ages.

Also, the Dalaran Crater one was pretty convenient on the Alliance side. Now northern EK will be mostly accessible to Mages (Ancient Dalaran Teleport), Paladins (Order Hall in Eastern Plaguelands), and rogues (Scroll of Teleport: Ravenholdt) - not to mention sub-level 100 DKs.

Comment by LastKnight

...There's a portal to Ironforge inside the Boralus portal room... Just like before.

And the portal in Stormshield too.

Comment by Xella

Yeah I could do without the new portal room. It's gorgeous, I've seen it in game, but I'm tired of Blizzard removing convenience and glossing it up as "hey, new feature!" :\ Those portals in the lower section of Legion Dalaran are all super useful for farming old content or leveling up new alts (imagine being an Alliance priest trying to unlock your class hall or your artifacts without the portal to Dalaran Crater—at least a Horde priest can go to Silvermoon and port to either UC or the ruins of UC from there).

I've submitted feedback about this change at various points in the PTR process and nothing's changed so I mean, guess they're pretty set on this one. Again. Not like it's getting old or anything, but it's also not like "voting with my wallet" does much good when I'm prepaid 'til like, July.

Edit: Also, the portals in Boralus were missing on an earlier build of the PTR; the only one that was there was the one to Stormwind. They do look like they're back now, but if the point of the new portal room is to get all the portals in one place, expect to see the Boralus/Dazar'alor portals get axed as soon as we move on to wherever 9.0's content takes us.

Comment by NoviceGuardian

This is actually terrible for people who do legacy content. Those lower Dalaran portals are awesome and should not be removed!

Comment by Eviloverlord

All those portals in Legion Dalaran were essential for easy transport for the various artifacts and Order Hall quest lines. Removing them is gonna make redoing that content on alts quite a pain.

Comment by ADSteelblade

Personally I don't mind portals being removed. As a mage you always had the gift om teleporting, after Panda it felt like a mage special gift was lacking or just not worth anymore.

At the other side of this all, we can travel more trough the world and get used to flying and walking. Because with vanilla you don't have portals at all.

Comment by Danimalultratype

Cata portal to Uldum is still up.

Comment by siubosn

I agree w/ the majority of the comments and points made here loosing old portals realy is below the belt. When I first heard about this I thought all the portal were moving {cept the outside ones in Org.} I thought this is gonna be a good thing right? I see now that I couldnt have been more wrong sigh it is what it is sadly enough.
Now what happens to the portal cave in Ogrimar? I guess they cant seal it off cause theres a dungeon in there.
