In essence nothing has drastically shifted. Tanks still have such a massive threat multiplier that a Dps or Healer stealing away aggro should not be a common scenario. The only real concern is probably Tanks out-threating one another when they don't intend to due to a combination of the numbers squish and change to threat modifiers.
I hope Actizzard realises that this will require the tanks to be close to eachother DPS-wise. The high multiplier acted as a cushion, softening the gap between tanks in Legion(where tank DPS is all over the place) so that even the lower DPS tanks didn't have a huge problem with threat. With this cushion removed, and for instance bears looking VERY low on damage in BfA at the moment, means that certain tanks will just feel a lot worse to play. It will also mean that classes like DK's and DH's will have a much easier time due to their higher damage(currently in BfA).I really don't mind having to think more when I tank, I actually think it's rather fantastic. I just hope that they'll give all the tanks the same chance to do well. And fix Revenge please. <3
finaly my tab target tanking comes back to be actually needed.. (yes i still tab target tanking.. always did, ever since vanilla deadmines).
As tank only player without beta access I'm looking forward to this change. I'd like to see correct threat generation and multitarget thread actually matter again. :-)
People are really going to raise hell over this and claim the world (of warcraft) is ending when in reality, it's really a very minor change. Even in Cataclysm tanks only generated 3x aggro, all the way up until the very end with DS (Patch 4.3; buffed to 5x), and Taunt did absolutely nothing if you were already Tanking the mob. This is still more threat gen than Cata. That's saying something. We'll all manage just fine. Tanks will have to focus just slightly more on larger trash packs instead of the current fire-and-forget joke of a system we have now. Threat still won't really be an issue like it was in years past.
So, only autoattack in lfr when you're overgeared, got it.
ooooh interesting. tanking mobs has felt so passive in recent expansions when simple aoe could keep them on you. looking forward to this, although it may take some time to break that habit now lol
Hmmm just a first impression, but I think the protection tanks, both warrior and paladin are going to suffer in dungeon content, even druid will have problems as they will need to spend more on AoE attacks rather than focus on mitigation. However the positive from this is we might see CC come back into the game. At the moment people face roll dungeons and then get mad at the tank when he can't hold skittish mobs. On the other hand if they make dungeons harder they also need to buff the loot because currently the only reason a handful of my alts are doing any randoms at the moment is solely to unlock some appearances on artifacts.Humans always take the easiest path and if dungeons become too much of a chore attendance will drop.
As a guy who just started playing in Legion and only just now started leveling a tank. Should I be worried about this? I never played a tank.
I can already see Healers and Tanks getting kicked from LFD / LFR, because the DPS gets pissed, that they die every few minutes, and will as usual blame it on first, the healers and then the tanks... Its astounding how few people actually reads patch / launch notes and or visits MMO champ or wowhead.
Omen is coming back lads!
I still remember the days of BC where tanks did something like 1.3x threat, and we managed. I can't see this making much difference, and I'm both a tank and DPS, so I have both perspectives.
It may have a great influence on the Skittish affixes of mythic+ dungeons :<
Complain train here, leave this for Classic Servers :)
